About This File

DESCRIPTION:  This mod removes the blue-green astro-turf with seam lines that is used as grass on most of the ($$) and ($$$) parks. It replaces it with a natural look similar to what is used on zoned lots and the ($) parks.

DETAILS:  This is my first mod. I personally found the default grass texture on the parks and other buildings to be very unattractive. The off color does not blend into any environment. In addition, the texture has obvious seams which make it look even worse. I created textures that use a similar system for the ground texture as the zoned house lots. I also added some subtle details which look different under different ground conditions. No two parks will look exactly the same and all should blend nicely into the local environment.

DISCLAIMER:  This mod does not change anything other than two textures used for the grass and should be safe for online non-sandbox play. This mod is purely cosmetic so it can be added to and removed from any existing or new city. I have tested it but it is NOT tested under all conditions since I only own the base game. This mod affects every instance where the astro-turf is used on any park, building or landmark lot.

KNOWN ISSUES:  ***UPDATE*** Due to the nature of the game, adding the Natural Parks mod also removes the system that stopped the grass that grows from the landscape from appearing. This could lead to some parks looking overgrown when viewed up close. I have created a seperate mod that addresses this issue and I highly recommend trying it. It is called "Cut the Grass", link below.

INSTALLATION: Copy the Manx_Natural_Parks.package file into your ...\Origin\SimCity\SimCityData\ folder. Just remove the same file to uninstall.

If anyone runs into any issues, just let me know.

Enjoy!

I can honestly say this is a good mod,I hate seeing those lines in the parks. I always wanted the parks to blend in and just look like they grew out of the ground, then it just being plop and standing out. Nice mod man I kinda hope to see more.

Oh.......my.........god..... THANK YOU! I have a touch of OCD and that blue "astroturf" drive me quite literally nuts, I'd deleted entire city files just because a few of those broken looking parks showed up >.<

If this works like you're saying here it's definetly as of now my fav SimCity mod.

Cool, it seems that the new simcity is starting to come alive.

But I still don't like it's graphics :P I wish if they made it's graphics looks to simcity4 (fake 3D) but instead of 4 views, maybe 8 views or 16 views+curving roads and the systems that this simcity has=The best city building game ever!

Great work thought! these additions are going to make Simcity alot better

Simcity 3000 is 'Fake 3D', Simcity 4 is Fixed 3D: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_graphics#Fixed_3D

Maxis obviously did not want to just make "SimCity 4.5". The modern gamer also expects a major title to have a free 3D camera, nowadays the fixed/isometric perspective is associated with cheap indie games and mobile apps.

Quick question, does the texture change based on region? If I remember correctly, by default the park textures change slightly between regions. I am pretty sure they do at least... For instance look at how the park strip appears in one of the new regions like Verdant Jungle and then look at how it appears on one of the older maps like discovery delta. If I remember properly the textures change to match the current environment... So, with this mod, will it make parks look strange in other maps such as the deserts or the newer green maps? I'll prob just have to check it out myself, but I thought I would bring this up. I do like this idea, though I would prefer if the ground textures were simply transparent so that you don't see such sharp edges around them.

Those turf parks have annoyed me from the beginning. Going to be installing this as soon as I get home. Many thanks!

The way it is designed it should take on colors that compliment the surroundings, no matter what the color is. It uses the ground it is placed on as the starting point. As far as the transparent textures, I tried it and may upload the option but it does not eliminate the edges due to the way the lot is created. Thanks!

The parks look amazing! If I ever get the will to play Simcity 2013 again I will try these out, the parks should have been like this in the first place!

Works as stated. I love it.

My only SMALL complaint (which is really more of a problem with the parks the game offers and not this mod at all), and really just more of an FYI for people to keep in mind is that sometimes it can make parks (especially the small medium wealth "short/long tree row" parks) a little hard to see if you're like me and plop trees all over your map.

Agreed. I just select the parks button so it floats an icon over all the parks. Makes it pretty easy to locate them. Thanks for pointing this out.

Yep. I just meant people should keep it in mind because I was attempting to build something that wouldn't plop and I couldn't figure out why. Finally zoomed in and saw the park. Now I know to bring up the parks menu when this happens.
