I'm just not totally sold, and I want to be
lew1984 replied to LivingInThePast's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
There is room to like both games... I have C:SL and SC4 installed on my PC (the only real casualty for me is SC2013). Both games have good and bad aspects to them that I won't revisit as we have all gone over it before. If you are unsure about C:SL I would say watch youtube videos etc and wait for it in a Steam sale if you want to buy. In this day and age of DRM, excessive DLC, and in app purchases infesting games we should all appreciate C:SL for what it is, it could easily be a lot worse! -

Growth of the Imperial City
lew1984 posted a City Journal entry in Yasaka: Asian Capital-(Fictional location)
Growth of the Imperial City The modern city of Yasaka started as a simple small town on the banks of the river Natsuku. During an expedition loggers found the remains of the Imperial Castle Matsumoto so named after the towering mountain that lay a far reaching shadow over the settlement. This sparked a population boom around what would become the Imperial district. Yasaka the original town was soon absorbed into the metropolis we see today. Yasaka Village: The Original Logging enterprise was a modest enterprise: Now Yasaka is the cosmopolitan, financial and cultural capital of the Natsuku region, and has grown far beyond its ancient Imperial ancestry. Tourists flock to the city to climb Mt Matsumoto and view the city from the Sky Temple, the cities oldest temple... The view offers panoramic vistas of the city below with the colossal financial towers jetting up skyward. Eva Air Jet takes off from Yasaka The City View from the Sky Temple is a popular spot for tourists who can take in the vista: The Walk up to the Sky Temple, Tourists can also visit the Yasaka Star Observatory next door: The Imperial district is home to the Japanese Castle where the emperor visited as a retreat from official business, now business men and tourists alike delight in the gardens and the castles majestic surroundings. Else where in the city there is plenty to do including mega shopping malls, art museums and opera houses! The Cities Skytrain network supplements the metro system speeding commuters above the bustling streets below, jetting through the towers of the city and connecting you to the cities marvels! Matsumoto Castle, Imperial District Yasaka's Mega mall along the waterfront is a shoppers delight: A Temple in Kenji District: Yasaka's Skytrain network is popular for touring the sprawling city though lacks speed and efficiency of the metro: Yasaka is based on a SC4 city I created once, some of the custom assets I created myself such as the Sky temple/Orange Japanese Temple. The Castle is by another player on the workshop. I miss all the content for SC4 such as stuff by Somy and the HK Asia bat team but Skylines is doing very well with many magnificent workshop items available... HK Asia bat team pleas make stuffs for skylines! Current Areal view of the City Yasaka: Thanks for visiting -Lew1984/Optron Warrior -
This game play much differently than sc2013. With lots of abandoned building, this is usually a sign of traffic, but this game nerfs traffic by despawning it when it gets too heavy and clogging roads. But this has a side effect of you thinking roads are fine because roads aren't clogged up. You'll need to make more highways in this game. Cims need quick access to everything and using roads aren't fast enough in most cases. I find at least two highways per 2km x 2km tile works best. There is a no despawn mod to prevent despawning traffic. It is best on a new city, as with an existing city, it will cripple it quickly. If this is a relatively small city you can enable the mod, see where the major choke points are, then remove mod and modify the cities choke points, then go back and re-enable the mod and see how it's flowing. Most likely it will keep shifting the choking points for a while until you have a free lowing city. Overall, this game is still the same as sc2013 in that it is an agent based city simulator and you need to get your agents (cims) from point A to point B in a timely manner. Since you're more used to SC2013 and used to the unforgiving traffic, the no depawn may be the mod for you. I know it helped me tremendously. EDIT: Forgot about sustaining your city. In this game, it loves parks. You may think you will lose money by placing them, but this game uses them to level you your buildings (all of them including industry) and then your buildings make more money. Same with police, health, fire services. they cost a lot, but they pay for themselves from leveling up all of the buildings. Taxes, too. The higher the levels the higher you can raise taxes. This is opposite of sc2013 as well. I thought there was an option in the Traffic++ mod that you could check to prevent traffic de-spawning? You don't HAVE to place things together in the beginning. There are power stations (I use a single 1MW solar panel) that you can download off of Steam that allow for spacing things out instead of having to spend large amounts of money running power lines everywhere. The solar panel mentioned above costs $800 as opposed to the $6000 for the wind turbine you start with. You can plop a couple of these down where you want them and can have a bunch of smaller communities spaced out instead of beginning with a central town center. Not every one uses mods/assets or has the same workshop items... Vanilla you have to be careful youtubers said it themselves when the game first came out. I also meant be careful not clump everything in exact same spot, you have to consider your layout. People who have played the game a lot can start cities easy but if you are new its potentially easy to waste money. I use custom assets myself but little in the power stations (have Gulas coal plant only currently).

It's time to ask the big question.
lew1984 replied to AidanA28's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I prefer skylines personally, however every so often I play SC2013 for a little while... It depends on what you enjoy about the games as to which you prefer. I do miss the supply chain and city specialisation aspects of SC2013 when playing skylines, but the game is far to restrictive on map size for me to enjoy it. -
Sad news a good website with amazing stuff from a hard working team. I too have back ups of many cool things from the site.

Do You Think Cities:Skylines Will Ever Have Expansion Packs?
lew1984 replied to XxSkitxX's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I read somewhere there should be an announcement in August sometime on what CO has planned next for Skylines. -
Expand Slow to begin with and watch your budget as its easy to go crazy and lose your money in the very early stages. Once you become established you start to make tones of money. Initial placement of sewage/power is a factor when you start as you have to connect every thing up to the electrical grid so placing things too far apart at the start is not recommended. This didn't matter on SC2013 as power/sewage simply ran along roads.

I still love SC4 but its too difficult to get running well on my newer computer. Also with the large amount of modds etc it takes awhile for the game to load up. Skylines I'm really enjoying but it could be a little more challenging budget wise, I miss the challenge of trying to provide services etc and keep a healthy budget. SC4 really made you consider your next step a little more rather than just placing anything and everything. Skylines is my favourite city builder now however, I enjoy the diversity of the roads, pedestrian walkways and the ease with with to add/create custom content :-). -
NO Botanical Garden is UNACCEPTABLE and the game is UNPLAYABLE
lew1984 replied to Shazlow's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
This thread is also on paradox forums lol. I'm sorry to say but pre-order stuff is a thing these days all/most companies are doing it. I really can't imagine it makes the game unplayable though... But I can see why it could be frustrating if it makes some modds/custom assets unusable for you.
