About This File

NO MORE BROWN BOXES !!
By Pegasus

This is a quick & dirty little mod that replaces those big ugly brown packages... with little ugly multi-colored "smudges". The advantage here is that Multi-Color Smudge is quite small... and does not cover the entire lot.

The disadvantage to the default ugly brown packages, besides being brown... and ugly... is that it covers up the entire friggin' lot. This prevents you from being able to see which item on the lot is causing the problem... and often from even being able to see which lot has the issue.

Technically, this mod simply overrides those brown package models (there are of 5 in total, all different sizes) and forces the game to display the default multi-color smudge it normally displays when it can't find a model's graphic files. The mod is a minimal 36k in size so there is almost no game resource usage. And although the Multi-Color Smudges are small, they are still quite easy to see... which makes spotting a problem almost as easy as noticing a big, honking, brown ugly box in the middle of downtown.

*This file was originally released on the STEX as "PEG NO MORE BROWN BOXES" in 2006. The original file came with an .exe installer that sometimes cause difficulties for some newer security software. This 'new' file is simply a copy of the "old" but now packaged with just a regular zip file.

FYI I think the box is coded to cover the whole lot, the models can't stretch though. I might be wrong. Either way, great mod.

This mod has actually been around since 2006, but until now has only been available on the PLEX. It is great that this popular, useful and often referred to little mod is now available here on the STEX.

Don't worry guys, those little flags will still piss you off
Oh yes... they are still just "little ugly multi-colored smudges"... and sadly they do not actually tell you what dependency you are missing... but they do tend to piss you off less than a great big honking brown box, tied up with string that you can't even open. Not one of my favourite things!

They only appear when you're missing a file that is used on a lot. It's pretty much maxis' way of saying: "You're doing it wrong".
