  1. @CorinaMarie @Cyclone Boom Sorry for making you sweat it out, but it works great, saves lots of time. Excellent work as usual, Thank you.
  2. When I select the "One More Verification" filter, I wonder if their might be a way to filter out the files where I am verifier '1' of '1/2'. I find I am spending a lot of time checking each file manually. And when selecting the "Restored (Unverified)" filter, they are mixed with "One More Verification" files. Also, as mentioned previously, I do need to refresh the tracker page to enact the "Mark Verified" selection, but this is not a major thing. Overall the Tracker is a great tool. Thank you.
  3. Verifier HQ: File Verifying Info & Discussion

I have had encountered readme files that display like this ".txt (invalid encoding)" and have seen that they are encoded using "Western(ISO-8859-15)".Thank you to @CaptCity who renamed and re-saved the files so they display properly as a "readme.txt" file (I should have known 'doh') but when opened they are still unreadable because of the encoding (Western(ISO-8859-15)). Is there something I can do to correct this? I have gone ahead and verified the file because it meets all the other criteria, but I wanted to bring this up for clarification.
  4. Sharer HQ: File Sharing Collaboration

Unfortunately I have no files newer than 2019 so I won't be able to help with replacing lost files. I will still try to help with Processing and Verifying.
  5. sign up Calling All Volunteers!

I have a copy of everything I've ever downloaded so I would be willing to search for anything that may be missing. I also would be willing to learn how to help in processing and verifying. I have experience with process and instructional documentation as well as java, bash. I am not sure about the amount of time I can give currently but that should change soon.
  6. Simtropolis Returns!

Many thanks and cudos to the SC4 ATeam. What would we do without you? I have not played in quite a while but came to the site regularly to get the latest news about all the amazing advances in game play. Now only months away from being able to get back to the game, I was absolutely panicked when the site disappeared. Hopefully when you tell us what help is required I can contribute in some way.
  7. Installing SimCity 4 on Ubuntu

Some mods are just placed in the appropriate folder, same as windoze. For others, that need to be installed, I would suggest looking at the tools provided by Wine (Add/Remove). Remember that Wine will link it's 'My Documents' folder to your 'home/user/Documents' folder. The Wine folders can easily be isolated if you use Winetricks to break the links. Hope this helps.
  8. @mbgriffith1 It appears from your posts that you either do not have Java installed or it needs to be updated. Sorry did not see the previous posts. Scroll up a few posts for info.
  9. @mbgriffith1 It appears from your posts that you either do not have Java installed or it needs to be updated. Sorry for the double post.
  10. Installing SimCity 4 on Ubuntu

@Milliethegreat If I follow your post correctly, you plan to use the Gog platform on multiple machines. I have installed Gog SC4 on multiple system partitions, but I just downloaded the SC4 exe file and install it locally, into a Wine prefix, without using the Gog platform.
  11. I'm so old that ...

I'm so old that I remember 'customer service'!!
  12. Installing SimCity 4 on Ubuntu

@Jamesthe1st I am not familiar with the steam platform but on wine it was always about having the right system resources installed. I will caution that my guide is getting quite old and should be considered a start point only. I have hope that real life will allow me to get active with the game again, but meanwhile I will be watching and learning from you and others, helping if I can.
  13. Installing SimCity 4 on Ubuntu

@Milliethegreat I used microsoft from dos 1 to winxp and then switched to Ubuntu and never looked back. Ubuntu is derived from Debian so under the hood they are almost identical. I would say that the learning curve is very similar. Once you get the file structure down and are comfortable with the installation procedure your on your way. After that it's all about the interface. I use the Gnome desktop. I have tried others but keep coming back, because It feels very tidy to me and I have invested a lot of time learning how to tweak it. We all put a lot of time into learning the windoze paradigm so you can't expect to switch overnight. However it is still just an interface that allows you to access and run programs, they all have menus and choices that we are all familiar with, so you know more than you think.
  14. Installing SimCity 4 on Ubuntu

@Milliethegreat I have zero experience with the Multiplayer mod so I cannot help in that regard. I do believe your best choice is to use an Linux OS, although I have recently switched from Ubuntu to Debian because Ubuntu just started to feel like it was getting in my way. too windozey. There has to be a good reason why a large portion of the worlds servers run on Linux. Keep at it, you'll get there.
  15. Installing SimCity 4 on Ubuntu

@Milliethegreat Hi, it has been a long while since I installed the game from my CD's and to be honest I didn't know there was a DVD version. Unless there has been some major changes recently you will still need Wine. It has also been a while since I installed Wine but in my notes I have this instruction; Go to WineHQ and follow the latest instructions for your distro. The following link will take you to starting page for Debian/Ubuntu. https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/wikis/Debian-Ubuntu Read this page carefully a couple times before starting and if you still have questions post back and I / someone will try to help guide you. I believe my old post, below, could still contain some useful info for setting up a prefix and installing the game. Scan the 'Install Current Stable Wine' section and the 'Install SC4Deluxe (CD Version) in Wine' section for helpful info. I hope this helps get you started.
  16. How to use Wine with SimCity4Deluxe, NAM, Modding Tools **ATTENTION: Recently began having problems with Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 and SimCity4. After an update, the game would only run in software mode. I have done a lot of digging to try to find the exact cause, but so far no luck. I have gone back to Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 until this gets fixed. About ten years ago I made Ubuntu my only OS, after dual booting with XP for about a year. I had only one regret, I could not get SC4D to run in Wine. I tried a few times over the next few years but still had no luck. Then a couple of years ago I decided to dig in and get it running. My first success came with the help of PlayOnLinux, finally! I used this setup until, recently, I decided to try working directly with Wine without the extra layer of PlayOnLinux. So I dug a little more and eventually I gathered most of the info I was looking for on the interweb. Much of this was, things I didn't know I needed to know, until I knew them. Now, I had a lot of info, but some bits seemed to contradict other bits, so I began to develop a repeatable, controllable, procedure that would allow me to test a defined set up, document it, rinse and repeat. The process I settled on, exposed the unreliable information, but gave rise to more questions. I dug around, got some more bits, and started again. This time it all came together. Eventually, I settled on a kind of combination set-up method using wine / winetricks / wine tools. I'm more of a nuts and bolts kinda guy,so this satisfies me. There are other ways to achieve the same results, and I may tackle them some time, but for now, I am concentrating on using this method to install SimCity4Deluxe and some of the modding tools. As a part of the testing process I developed sets of instructions, so I could repeat a particular set-up, exactly the same, multiple times. After using them for awhile, I decided they were solid and they might be helpful to other people. So I edited them into a more readable format and added some, (I hope), helpful information. Currently, I have finished these; ∘Wine How To - Install Current Stable Wine ∘ Wine How To - Install SimCity4Deluxe (plus updates) ∘ Wine How To - Install NAM ∘ Wine How To - Install GoFSH ∘ Wine How To - Install Gmax Extended ∘ Wine How To - Install ILive Reader 1.4 ∘ Wine How To - Install SC4-PIM X ***(Currently this will install and load but does not run as it should.) Credits: Most of the information I gathered was from WineHQ, Winetricks, Ubuntu forums, SC4Devotion forums, Simtropolis forums, many sage postings by 'A Nonny Moose' (found these everywhere), along with bits from numerous Linux editorials.
  17. Get ID range for textures?

Hello, I would like to return an ID range. 0xF8C80000 - 0xF8CBFFFF My game focus shifted shortly after requesting this and it never got used.
  18. Found 2 older downloads of NAM48 on my backup drive. Scanned them with clamtk, both came up clean. Deleted them anyway, to be safe.
  19. @Rady You don't mention which operating system you are using, but on any Linux system I have used, you need to right click on the file manager background and select " Show Hidden Files" to reveal hidden (.) files. If the right click selection is not there check in the "Edit / Preferences" menu. Hope this helps.
  20. Your Alternative Transportation Systems

@JeffSalisbury A few years ago I built several functional cities with no roads at all. This was before the Pedestrian Revolution Mod. I actually have not had a chance to use the PRM, maybe one day RL will allow me the time. Anyway, thought I would link some pictures. https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/758916-using-ped-mall-tiles/?do=findComment&comment=1726717
  21. When I built my walkable cities I used the 'no_fire.dat' from 'RCImulti' mod pac. Found here. It also includes other mods like the Homejobs.dat which I needed back then to encourage the sims to use the pedmalls and I think it adds some reality to the job market.
  22. simtropolis Miraculous News: Cori is alive!

Great to hear from you again Cori, this place did not feel the same without you.
  23. NAM General Support

@FixxerAuto Glad I could help, though I downloaded NAM 48 the other day and gave it a try. Thankfully it worked without requiring sudo, this will eliminate the need for a Linux replacement. My current OS is Ubuntu 22.04 and I am currently interviewing Debian and Mint, as possible replacements, so I tried it out on all three. It ran successfully on all systems, each with a different version of java. There was a minor restriction on Debian. See below. Ubuntu 22.04: openjdk version "1.8.0_392" After setting the execute bit, I was able to double click the .jar file to open the Installer. After setting the execute bit of the .sh file, I was able to right click it and select Run as Program. Debian 12: openjdk version "17.0.9" 2023-10-17 I was not able to get the double click working on the .jar file. After setting the execute bit of the .sh file, I was able to right click it and select Run as Program. Mint/Cinnamon 21.3: openjdk version "11.0.21" 2023-10-17 After setting the execute bit, I was able to double click the .jar file to open the Installer. After setting the execute bit of the .sh file, I was able to double click it and select Run or Run in Terminal. All systems ran the .jar file when invoked from the command line. In every case, when the Installer opens, I cannot see the checkbox at the bottom of the page so I just go fullscreen to access it. If I could ask for one thing it would be to expand the first nodes in the jtree by default.
  24. NAM General Support

@FixxerAuto I spent many hours going over the java code included in the jar file but could not nail down the offending bits. It basically sets a file path, collects your selections and moves files accordingly. If you really want to install manually there are directions in the 'read-first-NAM-47.html' included in the .jar file. Scroll way down and look for the heading 'Manual Installation'. All the files you need are in the "Installation' folder in the .jar file. (I have not tried this) I am currently working on some code that will work on Ubuntu/Linux but it will take some time.
