Delicious - I always love your CO buildings.  Great work - always a pleasure to see your stuff on the STEX.
  2. Equitable Bank and Trust

Exquisite.  You're an inspiration.  All BATters should aspire to the level which you seem to so easily achieve; my hat is off to you.  ;)
  3. Low Wealth Commercial Shops Volume 1

    Version 1.0

    11,267 Downloads

Tired of seeing the non-descript Maxis low wealth shops growing in your cities? Hate the sight of Honest Carrie's Used Cars? Well, here is a set of 8 different businesses, with a total of 22 different lots, to add a bit of variety to your low wealth commercial districts. Among the establishments are... Battery Hut Mattress Mart 'Get Em Out' Bail Bonds Troy's Bike Shop Poseidon Pool Supply Nails by Nina Scales and Tails Pet Shop Varla Jean's Wig World The majority of these are on 1x1, 1x2, and 1x3 lots - with anywhere from 8 to 22 jobs, and growth stages 1 through 3. Stats have been modded in accordance with Maxis buildings and other fine uploads found here and at the LEX. Aside from good old bldgprop1 and bldgprop2, there are no dependencies - and the majority are tricked out with nightlights, depending on the type of establishment. Happy downloading - there's a bunch more on the way, this is just a taste...
  4. 5657 Wilshire Blvd

I think everything about this one is great!  Always glad to see your contributions to the STEX...
  5. Bingo. Basically, the pathfinding algorithm is like: 1- Find the shortest possible route. 2- Ignore all other options and variables. 3 - Allow people to "fix" the game algorithm with DLC. 4 - Profit (for EA)
  6. What is Trixies?

Dude, just cease posting in this thread...
  7. Bradley Building

    It's so puurrrrdddy....
  8. Why should the person above you be banned?

Banned for the use of too many ellipses and injudicious use of the space bar.
  9. Marine House

Spa, you're an inspiration.  Always beautifully textured, and the night lights are gorgeous.  I bow down to the awesomeness.
  10. Zahrul3 Indonesian BATs(skip to back)

I don't know - not knowing how the walls were made (either as separate objects, or as an edited polygon), and not knowing how they were textured (one whole texture for everything, or individual textures for individual objects), it's impossible to say. But as for the textures themselves, any variation could work - dodge, burn, adjusting brightness or contrast or color or hue or saturation, adding gradients, whatever is needed to give a flat texture the life that it needs. It's difficult to give a 100%, dyed-in-the-wool answer because each case is different.
  11. All future EA games to feature microtransactions

If they add the ability for users to create custom buildings, then the best cash shop for microtransactions will be at places like the STEX and the LEX. Microtransactions which are free.

"Clean" and "repainted" should not necessarily equate to "flat" and "even." Cleaned and/or repainted, there are going to be subtle, almost (but not quite) indistinguishable variations in texture, value, and hue. These tiny variations can help prevent a flat or even simple texture on a BAT from looking dead. Also, there are going to be variations in light and shade falling on these clean, painted surfaces. Faint gradient shadows at the base of the model, as well as a small lightening up at the building's edges can also help things, especially in situations with gmax where the lighting and shading is not as good as it is in 3dsMax. Right now, I'm looking at a clean wall in my apartment. There is a faint variation where the painters obviously didn't hit that area with a second or third coat of paint, or if they did, the coat of paint wasn't applied evenly. There is a small bump, about the size of the palm of my hand, where there has obviously been some repair work in the past. There's a small shadow gradient at the base of the wall, extending upwards for about a foot before the light washes it out. And the entire left side is a bit cooler than the warmth of the right side, though this has more to do with the quality of light falling on the wall than it does the paint job. At a quick glance, the wall I'm referring to is "cream" and evenly painted and clean. But upon further inspection, as noted above, there are lots of different characteristics that make it much more interesting than a flat, even color.
  13. Shelburne GOCB

O, Canada...!  Beautiful little mundane building. And then night lighting is superb.  Glad to see another release from you.
  14. Paeng's PURe No05

Now that's some spicy STEXy mustard....!
  15. Elementary-Middle-High School with Campus

The STEX is not a BETA work-in-progress dumpsite.  That's what BAT and lot threads are for - to display work, solicit opinions and critiques, and to polish things to the point where they can be shared here.  There's no reason to release something that's not finished, nor post an upload as a "coming soon" billboard for a more finished work.
  16. United Central Bank

Model and textures are top notch, as always.  The nightlighting seems a little odd to me - it almost looks like the windows are too dim - the light inside is really really low, like half the bulbs have burned out.  Love the rest of it, though, and I always welcome moar midrises - and this has the added bonus of meeting some of that CS demand that seems to never be filled in larger cities....
  17. CS$$ Pokémon Center

Open our "tent" for people who can "barely render a shape?"  Yes, by all means, let us celebrate mediocrity and low-effort uploads with kudos, ass-pats, and five-star ratings.  Hip hip hooray for low standards and the path of least (or no) resistance.  /eyeroll
  18. BAT types/groups most missing from the STEX

Thanks for opening up this topic for discussion, andisart. It's something that should be revisited. There are gaping holes in the STEX content, while there are oversaturations in some areas - personally, if I see one more awesome super-duper skyscraper posted, I'll spontaneously combust. Part of this has to do with BATter and downloader preference, though - who's to say you can't BAT another super-duper skyscraper if you really enjoy making them? The kind of stuff I like to BAT is usually the stuff that is under-represented on the STEX at the time I make it - liquor stores, single-screen movie theatres, etc. Pawnshops are woefully absent - I know I searched a while back and didn't find anything good. It's been on my list for ages, but something I haven't gotten around to doing yet. Bridal boutiques as well. Things like pawnshops and bridal boutiques might not be viewed as necessary, since (apart from signage) they might resemble any other building in the Maxis vein of Small Shops or Boutiques. I also think small industrials are always needed to add variety to existing Maxis content. Non-descript mechs and outs.
  19. How does the reputation point system work?

The points system should not be proportional because the content of the posts being eligible to be thumbed is not proportional. As mentioned before in this thread, reputation is a qualitative measure, not a quantitative measure; if it were the latter, then reputation would automatically scale to number of posts. It doesn't, because it's not designed that way. Any user can make a lot of posts, but whether there's anything thumb-worthy in those posts is an entirely different matter. As for the reputation system implemented on the STEX, from a certain point of view, it already is - those star ratings, the number of views an upload has, and particularly the number of downloads an upload has are all a form of reputation. If you liked it enough to download it, you'd probably have clicked "like" on it anyways.
  20. I know many don't like it, but I like Lavine Management. And I'm partial to their 1x1 little CO$$$ office towers.
  21. All movies should have film scores by Max Steiner or Franz Waxman.

  22. TR3AMX's BAT Showcase

With regard to BAT threads in general and this one in particular, I'm going to jump in here and say that I, for one, am lazy. If I click into a BAT thread, I want to see BATs, rather than just messages with more links for me to click. I would highly suggest you use the image tags that are available via photobucket (or wherever these are hosted) and just paste them into your replies here, so that when people open the thread they can see the images you want to present. Going to the trouble of creating a BAT thread and soliciting help is not enough - you have to make it easy, easy, EASY for people to help you. And why not make it that much easier by showcasing the images in the thread itself, even though they're hosted at some other site? 99.9% of BAT threads do this - text and image together in single posts. If people are clicking into and reading the thread, give them everything for which they've clicked on it in the first place as soon as they're into it. You might think, "hey madhatter106, you're lazy for not wanting to click again," and to that I'd say, "yeah you're right. Maybe only slightly more lazy than a thread writer who didn't include the images in the first place." Make it easy for us (the general BATting public) to help you - you want your stuff to be seen, then make it easy for us to see it...
  23. ST mafia: holy heck guys it's the first night

This is very similar to "Werewolf," or "Murder." It can be played in very large groups (in person, at least). I've seen games of Werewolf with upwards of 30 people in them.
