You just use something like Fine Road Heights and force 'elevated' with either 0m or 1m elevation. At least that's how I do it.

While Zdza is showing off Prop Line Tool with bike lines, we explored the depth of PLT, and it's a game changing mod not seen since Prop Anarchy. Need a line of semi-truck trailers without plopping individually, can be done like this. Oh yeah, you can change props without losing your spot in your plopping phase, that's how that that empty container cars line was made. Could do the same with anything else. Need a line of props on a curve? Oh yeah, done. This is a must have mod.

Seattle, Washington, USA (Update 19: Seattle Municipal Tower)
Roadman20 replied to Roadman20's topic in Cities: Skylines City Journals
In light of another Seattle recreation hitting Cities Skylines Reddit, I'm still plunking away with any way to maximize land use without hitting the building limit. Some ingenuity is coming along... don't know why I like playing with the industrial area so much even with the lack of big industrial buildings. I spend a lot of time in Google Street view browsing all parts of the city. I know like I have lived near the city and visited plenty of times, but I've only set foot in a small portion of the city. Also, I need to get more RAM since the game likes to crash if I decide to multi-task between C:SL and Google Maps for long lengths of time. Should have a formal progress report this coming weekend detailing the highways of rail and a lot more train cars.- 194 Replies

How long does a city map take to load?
Roadman20 replied to Fearlessmayor's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I'm around 1,200 assets with 90 active mods. Takes me about 6 minutes to load Seattle at 60k pop. I have an i7-4790K, 16GB, and a Radeon 7950. -

Seattle, Washington, USA (Update 19: Seattle Municipal Tower)
Roadman20 replied to Roadman20's topic in Cities: Skylines City Journals
Thanks for the comments everyone. Yeah, I've heard great things about Adelaide from plenty of people who visited when I was swinging through down Australia, I definitely want to come back down at some point to pick up where I left off. Each place had something a bit special in terms of culture. Sure, I took a lot of picture, but a trip is only as good as enjoying the culture you're visiting. People I've met along the journey, simply among the best in my travels so far. Some towns like Cairns and Queenstown are very tourist-orientated compared to more laid back places like Melbourne and the various small New Zealand towns I've stopped in. I didn't like Queenstown since it's a tourist trap town these days, it's a necessary evil I suppose since it's taking the brunt of the tourist assault while sparing other nearby towns and thus maintaining their small town cultures. Found a fantastic ramen place in Sydney at the edge of Chinatown district, one of the best I've eaten outside of Japan. Drinking coffee at a cafe in Wellington and Melbourne was a throwback to being back in Vienna in their cafes, it was nice touch honestly. I think one of the great takeaways from the trip was passing by a Greek Orthodox church in South Melbourne on the last weekend of my trip, forgot they celebrate Easter during the last weekend of April. Hundreds of folks gathered in the street with candles... I left the camera behind, it's etched pretty well in my mind. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Anyhow, I probably won't be posting again for awhile until I have a substantial progress somewhere in the city, but here's a glimpse of the development project west towards West Seattle with finishing the Industrial district just north of Georgetown and King County International Airport. This is a tandem project in conjunction while the Rainier Valley project nears completion, but this project you probably won't see until sometime in June. Prevents me from getting bored with detail work and vis versa. There's about four major things that need to happen before I jump the Duwamish River towards West Seattle. The first is dealing with current alignment of the river, since it's creation in the map editor is much wider and incorrectly aligned than what it is suppose to be. The SR 99/SR 509 interchange with Marginal Way and Michigan Street is currently in the river, so major terraforming is required all along the river. Secondly, on the above picture, you can see I outlined a huge piece of land that is becoming part of the Union Pacific freight facility. I've measured this rail yard in Google Maps and it is about 1.8 km long, so it's huge. It will be a massive focal point in the industrial district by being the largest rail freight facility in Seattle, although the BNSF facility is about 1.4 km in length, but it doesn't have three major arterial bridges spanning over it. Third, developing this facility will help with dealing with moving the existing rail alignment built during the map editor to shift towards back to the realistic rail alignment outlined in green along Interstate 5 in Southern Seattle. Lastly, to accommodate the location of the traditional rail alignment, I need to shift Interstate 5 alignment to where it is suppose to be at the location of the traditional alignment. In the meantime, I've kept the southern freeway route open with a tunnel while I terraform Beacon Hill ridge to properly construct Interstate 5 correctly. All of this is to complete the realistic approaches at the southern end which I hammed in the Map Editor long ago. I've looked the southern end of the map, I know I've said I wouldn't develop much further south and focus elsewhere, I'm still committed to that. This final southern development pretty much takes me to the edge of the King County International Airport, and I do have enough room to construct the entire 3.38 km runway and entire Boeing commercial airplane complex if I ever choose to do so.- 194 Replies

Update 11: Lessons from Down Under Howdy folks, I'm back from traveling Eastern Australia and New Zealand. Truly amazing cities in Sydney, Melbourne and Wellington, as well as some of the most beautiful scenery this Earth offers encountered in my travels. I clocked about 2,605 km (1,618 mi) on various roads in both countries, some like the famous Great Ocean Road, southeast of Melbourne, or the Great Alpine Highway, between Christchurch and Greymouth. I took a lot of pictures, but here's some notable ones from the trip, but these sort of shots I think what people want out of a city simulator at some point. Now, the above shots are mainly from Sydney, although the first photograph is the area around Cairns, Australia. The last shot was my first view of this very interesting city that I enjoyed exploring. A fun fact about Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport is that it is the world's oldest operational commercial international airport. Very interesting layout for any C:S airport builder out there. A few things stuck out to me as I travel Sydney. First, was the ease of transport on their heavy rail commuter network and how dependent the city is on it, which is a stark contrast to say Melbourne to the southwest with it's extensive tram network couple with a heavy rail commuter network. The second thing was how hilly Sydney was, I thought it was going to be flatter, but it is not, especially the northern side of Sydney towards Chatswood. The third thing I noticed was the extensive ferry network, something Seattle has, but it's more geared to moving cars/trucks as well as pedestrians. I considered Sydney's ferry network to closely resemble Istanbul's ferry network, but Sydney's is better I believe. I should mention that the huge lack of decent marinas and boat traffic in Cities:Skylines is a big issue that people tend to gloss over when it comes to making a coastal city come alive. It's definitely more than cargo and cruise ships. The fourth observation from Sydney was looking at Cockle Bay and the Circular Quay areas of the city since they are busy spots of the city, but they have a large motorway viaduct overhead. Reminds me a lot of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, but Sydney is making their waterfront look great even with towering expressways overhead. Lastly, no one should recreate Sydney in C:SL, the city's layout is a nightmare. Personally, I don't live in Seattle, I use to live in a small town of 30,000 about an hour away from Seattle with a Main Street that comes straight out of 1950s Americana. So as much I take interest in big cities, I also pay attention to small towns such as these towns of Rotorua and Taupo with nothing larger than two story buildings. Most of these small towns, and as well in large cities is noticing the diagonal parking and the planters taking up the empty space. Most these towns in New Zealand were like this and you can note the commercial center with the large overhanging covers over the wide sidewalks were common. It's not just New Zealand, I've seen such layouts in numerous small towns in North America and in Europe. Or something like this lumberyard next this small shipyard/industrial place in Picton, New Zealand. Or these farmlands near Kaikoura, New Zealand How about picturesque of manmade infrastructure carving through some of the most scenic lands on Earth? Also, Colossal Order, please... (If you drive the South Island of New Zealand, you'll run into an incredible amount of one way bridges, although this one is the most unique one). Also, some things of Melbourne, also a fantastic city of really food, culture, sports and trams. Neighborhood of St Kilda, the southern end of Tram 96. There's a huge deal going on with a proposed new tram station at the end of this street which is opposed by a lot of local businesses on this street. St Kilda on Acland Street is full of small businesses, cafes, and very good bakeries. A tad bit seedy in the immediate area beyond this street, but a nice place to be and close to a very nice beach. This is Melbourne's newest type of tram in service on line 96. Wouldn't you like such a riverfront in your virtual city??? Or emulate small alleyways choke full of cafes and restaurants with Cims sipping on European-like cafe experience? Or a real tram stop right next your classical train station? Or this classic pedestrian mall smack in the middle of the Melbourne CBD with a tram line running down the length of the street... anyways, you get the idea. You can see Melbourne and Sydney are completely different cities, one more internationalist in nature and the other is more European/Victorian in nature due to their histories and previous city planning. I liked Melbourne a bit better, but I think that's due to how the city is laid out and everything is a big closer to see things. I love diving into the inner workings of infrastructure of a city, helps me keep ideas of Seattle going. Also helps that I used to think about how to solve Seattle's traffic problems some years ago with various unpublished plans, but that's another story for another day. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ While I was away, I did keep loose tabs on Cities:Skylines whenever I was at an airport killing time... and looking forward to taking some of the things I saw down here onto Seattle. I did fire up Seattle yesterday and continued some minor cosmetic work with Interstate 90 with reconstructing the Mt Baker Tunnel and straighten the western entrance of the tunnel to look more aligned with the eastern end of the tunnel. The western end of the tunnel entrance curved northward from Rainier Ave, which was an early construction error never fully addressed. Earliest configuration of the western end of the Interstate 90 Mount Baker Tunnel, a yuge mess back then. You can see the uneven alignment of the Mount Baker Tunnel Entrances in this before picture, although you can see the newer Express Lane configuration already. Straightened Interstate 90 at Rainier Ave. Should be coming back to finish Sam Smith Park into it's more complete form in the near future. Until next time... you'll never know what you'll encounter on the road, but notice the beauty of the details... that's what makes something that should be ordinary become extraordinary.- 194 Replies

Seattle, Washington, USA (Update 19: Seattle Municipal Tower)
Roadman20 replied to Roadman20's topic in Cities: Skylines City Journals
The only time I've noticed it not saving data is using a zone toggle mod. I've periodically checked since you made it possible to choose street lights on roads and my recent saves have kept data from initial release. I have two main saves and about three more older save but without the current advanced development with time stamps of Jan 2016, Oct 2015 and then Aug 2015. Well, one needs BloodyPenguin's Quay Anarchy. Very necessary to build quays everywhere on land. His Network Nodes Editor made it possible to modify the terrain of the quay without resorting to constant terraforming. He didn't state in the mod description, but I discovered it was possible after completing the revamped Interstate 90 walls. I was trying to change the nodes on I-90, but it would white circle highlight the quay nodes underneath. This gave to unprecedented control of virtually all aspects of my road construction efforts from here on out, I'm being dragged out of the dark ages of frustrating road building limitations.- 194 Replies

I'm new to Cities Skylines. I need help.
Roadman20 replied to BryanChung's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Yeah, the vanilla parks aren't much and for the most part quite big. The workshop has a lot of parks to choose from, although this is also due to having "props" that are parks as well, making the park catalog a bit of a mess. The other way to approach parks is to plop props, tress and pedestrian paths to simulate a park, which can be made while in the game or you can create your own parks in the asset editor as well. CO provides the props necessary for making more parks on top of user made props in the workshop, so you can go all custom if you want. Industries is two-fold, the regular industrial zoning (yellow zoning) which is the dirty factories and stuff which do not turn into any sort of highrise. The other half of industrial demand is offices (sky blue zoning) that will spawn highrise towers if enough services are near them. -

Update 10: Seattle tops 60,000 and Progress on Rainier Valley/Beacon Hill Good day folks, welcome back to Seattle. This is my only update for April since I'm heading on vacation to Australia and New Zealand until May. Progress has been slow, divided between new development and cosmetic detailing is going on throughout Seattle. Anyhow, let's go through some development lapses. I've ditched American Roads since it's no longer that optimized with other mods and a resource hog. Waiting on the Roads United add-on with the American road textures. Addition of Columbia City and Rainier Vista neighborhoods. Third phase development with Jefferson Park and Golf Course with the Veteran Administration Puget Sound health care complex. In conjuction in the final phase of development of Rainier Valley and Beacon Valley, the I-5/West Seattle Freeway receives it's cosmetic pieces to finally complete the interchange. Thanks to Network Nodes mod, I'm in full control of both the roads and quays as you can see in the shots below. A glimspe of the VA hospital and parking complex. Nearby, you can see the Jefferson Golf Course taking shape and the area behind the hospital will become Jefferson Park. Down in the Rainier Vista neighborhood, the Boys and Girls Club sports complex with adjacent parking. Further into the valley, a view of my attempt at a strip mall at the Rainier Square Plaza. Near the new strip mall is the Darigold Logistical center, preparing deliveries of fresh milk to the local stores in the area. On Rainier Aveune S, the US Postal Service is actively delivering mail to their customers. In other news, I'm slowly revamping Seattle's street scheme to reflect the overwhelming use of sodium vapor lights in the city compared to the C:S vanilla lighting. I'll briefly mention my own flying car problems prevalent at parking spot throughout the city, one location on Harbor Island... Lastly, a space shot Thanks for viewing, and see you in May!- 194 Replies

Any suggestions for sea ports?
Roadman20 replied to Fearlessmayor's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I haven't seen anything in the Workshop related to a revamped cargo harbor or I would have plopped them down by now in my Seattle build. There's the industrial seawalls by Mas71 that's been out for awhile now, and I have plopped ships to dock them to. There's a few lighthouses in the workshop, but unsure on the quality. -

I have the same view on the DLCs like Judazz, I thought highly about After Dark since I thought it was going to be a decent upgrade to the simulation but it turned out to be way less than expected and somewhat broken. Also After Dark should not be bought full price either, but whenever it goes on sale at 50% as it does on a semi-regular basis these days. I play the Skylines a lot and I definitely enjoy the game, but Snowfall was not and still is not worth $12.99 when not on sale. I didn't care for the snow maps, and trams are by no means necessary with all the modded assets to technically emulate a tram network are out there. Things like road maintenance is just another hearse or garbage truck roaming the roads, the breakdown of roads won't cripple one's network like it should after observing for awhile. I am pretty critical of the simulation, but it's a justifiable one in my mind. On the other hand, Skylines is the best city simulation since Sim City 4 came out over 10 years ago and the modding community has been pushing the limits of the game ever since Skylines was released. I plan to get Snowfall when it goes on sale as well.
