  1. STEX 7.0 development

I think one of the greatest things to add would be fields involving architectural style and time period. Not Chicago/New York/Houston/Euro, but actual architectural styles. Often when I start a new project, I scour the STEX for buildings matching a certain theme and style I want. Say I want to recreate a victorian-era city. Very few victorian buildings added to the STEX actually contain "Victorian" anywhere in the description. I have to do repeated searches on numerous different words and names in an attempt to try to find what I want, and then just browse the entire collection page-by-page until I go crazy. I've done this so far with '20s-style cities, and medieval cities. Granted, there would be the issue of applying such definitions to files that are already submitted, but being able to search by architectural style (which could also include things like 'fantastical' or 'magical' as was suggested above. The 'users who downloaded this also downloaded..' idea above would also help in this matter. Other suggestions I have (but aren't as high on my list as the above) would be better handling of the multiple types of uploads of the same core file. Not version history, but rather to cover HD, DarkNite, HD&DarkNite, and MaxisNight without having to make up to 4 different submissions. An ability to limit search criteria to buildings with HD or DarkNite would also be exceptional. To add to that, also the option of flagging a building as a corner building, wall-to-wall, overhanging diagonal, overhanging FAR-facing, overhanding diagonal corner, and a lot size field -- all searchable, to help easily find stex submissions to fill a needed spot in our cities.
  2. Main Railway Station by logan123456

Holy dependencies. That's just too much. Not worth the headache of checking to see which ones I already have and downloading/installing the ones I don't just for a rail station.
  3. ard Iglesia de San Jose

All of this person's buildings are incredibly overscale.
  4. ard Hotel Senator

Is it just me or are these buildings oversized?
  5. Sim Medieval thread

Ah that's right, I forgot that's a no-car-zone there in central Ghent, isn't it? I can't wait to see more of it in SC4 =]
  6. Sim Medieval thread

Oooh. My only suggestion, is that when it's lotted, to offer a ploppable version that doesn't include car props, to better fit into medieval environments.
  7. Ancient Stone Walls (corrected)

I actually started using the previous set on a project of mine because they're flexible, but could only use it in limited fashion because of the lack of a corner piece. I am so glad to see this updated with new pieces!
  8. Sim Medieval thread

Ouch, that's unfortunate. =[ The traffic automata test mod linked previously, I understand (or assume by screenshots) that people were able to make it work, however for me it only seems to cut out my sound and cars still spawn on the streets and roads. Anyone know how to make it work?
  9. Sim Medieval thread

Is anyone still working on this project? I hope so, because it interests me greatly!
  10. Island Harbourview

I'm glad this predates TruNight. As a DarkNite player, the TrueNight buildings stick out like sore thumbs and I'm actually trying to avoid models rendered in it now. Glad to see there's an HK building I can use now =]
  11. Sidewalks at NAM radius pieces

Turns out I had two copies of the NAM installed. One in the Program Files plugins folder, and one in the My Documents plugins folder. Removing one of them corrected the missing texture issue, but has also caused a new issue: My preciously made cities are now all inaccessible. They all get stuck on the loading screen. =[
  12. Sidewalks at NAM radius pieces

I've been having this same problem and placing it in a zzz- folder does NOT do the trick. I've tried placing them in the NAM Plugins folder, their own zzz- folder, everything, and still nothing changes. I try re-plopping puzzle pieces after doing this, and still there are no sidewalk textures. I'm getting really, REALLY annoyed and frustrated waiting 10 minutes for sim city to load just to try another failing method and am getting to the point where I want to just delete these mods completely and never mess with them, and just photoshop sidewalks in to my screenshots.. it seems a lot easier than trying to wrestle with these mods.

Besides, I don't think that it's really usefull, because it takes up a lot of space.quote> I'd likely make very heavy use of it if it existed. Probably in all my cities, any place I'd expect to make an arterial road.

I'd also love to see a mod to replace other double-height networks to make them half-height, as well as a half-height el-over-road system. I came here for other suggestions, though. Almost-Parallel FAR intersections We have some almost-perpendicular intersections with FAR and straight roads, but lack any almost-parallel intersections, similar to the intersection of Broadway & 7th in NYC around Times Square. Wide-Angle Curve Intersections Sometimes new higher-speed roads are laid over the top of a grid system, and will curve their way to another parallel street in the grid. The grid-streets still connect to the new road, but most traffic follows the curve. Curves with a street continuing along the one side would be excellent, like a railroad straight-and-diagonal switch. An example: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=42.74687,-85.66172&spn=0.004144,0.009141&t=h&z=17 Switch to Parallel Railway Track It would be nice to have a smooth switch to a parallel track that continues in both directions from the track. Two-Tile Wide R-2, AVE-2, AVE-3 I think it'd be great to include the one-tile wide road network pieces centered into a 2-tile wide piece. This would allow for more realistic network planning and expansion without having to demolish an entire row of buildings on the side to expand.
  15. What frustrates you about sim city 4

    1) Crashing 2) Unsuitable Grade for Construction 3) Overabundance of Specific Buildings that grow like weeds 4) Load times
  16. TKY - Shinjuku Station West Wing

It looks like this is 17 tiles wide, based on the tiny pictures. Can this be confirmed? Tile sizes are important when trying to upgrade a train center in an existing city.
  17. NYBT One Times Square

Considering the building shape, it probably should have been lotted as an overhanging lot, usable with the FAR. In fact, I don't think I've seen any overhanging times square lots.
  18. paper mill

Looks like a disorganized mess of poorly-thought out props in places. Is any of this original by you or is it full of just props? That's a lot of dependencies for someone to have to deal with. Some of the buildings look like they have entrances buries in other buildings. And the line of trucks looks like it was hastily made in under 5 seconds. The concept is great, however, and I'd love to see this more carefully approached.
  19. trailer park

My only complaint is the excessive amount of streets. One of the streets could be removed altogether, the homes pushed down to replace it, and another row of homes where the others were facing the back street.
  20. HK Kowloon Terrace

DarkNite, AND HD, AND a great building! I love you.
  21. HK ICC International Commerce Centre

I wonder how water run-off is handled with such a building.
  22. Logan Arms DarkNite Version

I love that you're using DarkNite! Absolutely fantastic! Now if only I could get you to go HD ;p
  23. Modular Medieval Port

Love these! I've long felt there's a lack of good medieval-era things on the STEX. I hope to see more!
  24. Medieval Sailing Ship

Love these! I've long felt there's a lack of good medieval-era things on the STEX. I hope to see more!
