United States (Pt. 4/6)
Our look at the United States continues on today, starting off with a trip around the Great Lakes, visiting the a few of the area's most unique sights and famous cities like Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, and Buffalo. We'll then head southeast to finish up with a trip to "Charm City" - Baltimore. Enjoy!
We'll begin on Michigan's Lake Michigan shoreline, where small lighthouses are a common sight - and Holland's iconic Big Red Lighthouse dates back to 1872.
Here we see the unique Grand Haven Lighthouse, which is located on a long extended pier in the port of Grand Haven, Michigan.
We now move into one of the region's most famous cities - Milwaukee - and our first sight is from the 1910's when the city was one of the region's most important industrial hubs. Warehouses lined much of the city's Walker Point neighborhood, like Lindsay Bros.
The 1970s saw a new wave of construction in the city. Here we see the recently completed First Wisconsin Center.
We now move back into Detroit - and we'll begin with a scene from 1920s Detroit, this time from the industrial district near Miller Street.
The Guardian Building is a landmark art-deco skyscraper located at 500 Griswold Street in Downtown Detroit, Michigan, within the Financial District. The Guardian is a class-A office building owned by Wayne County, Michigan and serves as its headquarters.
We move out of Detroit to get a look at Kazuyo Sejima's postmodern Toledo Glass Pavilion, located in the city's suburbs.
Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial is located on Ohio's South Bass Island in Lake Erie and is one of the area's most monumental landmarks.
César Pelli's 947 foot tall Key Tower towers over downtown Cleveland and is Ohio's tallest skyscraper.
Heading further northeast, we get a view of the iconic Buffalo City Hall at nighttime.
We now travel to Baltimore for our last destination today - an important seaport on the East coast that's known for it's industrial heritage. Here we see the massive Domino Sugar Refinery on the city's waterfront.
The American Brewery is a famous landmark in the city's Broadway East district. After being abandoned for decades, it's currently undergoing an extensive renovation to bring it back to former glory.
A few typical scenes from urban Baltimore, where row houses line the streets for miles around.
One last look at downtown Baltimore.
