Midwest U.S. (Preview)

For our next update, we're returning to the United States to take a look at a number of scenes from the Midwest. From picturesque farmland, heavy industrial areas, famous landmarks, iconic skylines, and more - there's plenty to see and experience here, so we'll be taking an in depth look at the region. The update will include a scene from each and every Midwestern state - there's still a few more scenes I need to finish up though, so in the meantime here's a preview of what's to come:

Quaint family farms - a common sight just about everywhere you look in the Midwestern U.S.

We'll also be taking a look at a few of the Midwest's capital cities along with a few of its cities and towns - like Pierre, South Dakota.

Much of the Midwest U.S. is an endless plain of farms and fields - and from the air you can truly grasp the scale.

We'll see a few of the region's most impressive landmarks as well, like iconic Mount Rushmore.

We'll be taking a look at a number of Midwestern industrial areas as well - like the heavy industrial regions that surround Lake Michigan and more.

There will be plenty of large cities included as well - with scenes from Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, and Minneapolis.

I generally just enjoy your CJ posts without comment. However, this time I'm tentatively more excited that my home state of Indiana might appear in your next update. *;)

Frickin' awesome....!  Can't wait to see more of your recreation of Chicago..... that was probably the most recreated city I'd try to attempt back in the days of SC3000 (one of which got corrupted not long after filling out :( )

Chicago! Another city we’ve often seen attempted (like your outstanding New York). I’m sure you’ll do it justice. Can’t wait to see. And I’m really excited about those agricultural scenes.

Looking good so far! I really liked the picture with the section roads and irrigation circles. It looks like you have the quarter mile section roads at every 25 tiles or close to it, right on scale! (25 tiles = 400m ~= .25 mile at 1609m/mile).

Don't ask me why, but I'm more interested in seeing how the farms will turn out. Maybe it's because of the lack of grid in an isometric game.

Whoa, you could even post several updates just showing close ups of that Chicago recreation! :golly:

@CorinaMarie Thanks for commenting, appreciate it *:thumb: I only have one scene planned for Indiana in the update - but a lot of the scenes in the full entry are typical of the entire Midwest could be found in just about every state *;)

@RobertLM78 Thanks for the nice words! I don't have much experience with SC2000 unfortunately, but I played SC3000 extensively and actually built a couple Chicagos over the years so It's nice to fully bring it into SC4! Sorry to hear about the corruption issues - I've dealt with similar issues in the past and it's definitely not fun..

@bladeberkman Thanks for the nice words, glad you enjoyed the update! *:thumb:

@CT14 Thanks for the comment - I made sure to get those measurements correct, glad you noticed *:)

@tariely Glad you enjoyed the farm scene! *:thumb:

@Androgeos Thanks for the nice words - you'll get to see a closer view in the full update so stay tuned *:)

@mike_oxlong Thanks for the kind words! *:)

@asr_1927 Yep it's SC4 - thanks for the comment!

@TekindusT I've thought of publishing even more closeups from some of my other city and town recreations over the years -  but considering I could literally post hundreds and hundreds of entries of just closeups, I'll need to narrow it down a bit first *:P

@pclark06 I got them on SC4D from the "Three Rivers Region" exchange here but it looks like the link is now down for some reason unfortunately.

@NMUSpidey We'll see - there's a lot of other scenes though I need to get through first *;)

@kingofsimcity Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed the update! *:)

@JP Schriefer Thanks for the nice words! *:thumb:

I cut my teeth with SC2000, but by the time SC3000 rolled around it was time to try out a real city :D

@RobertLM78 Hehe, although I love SC4, I'll always have a special place as well for some of the other classics I grew up with. Unfortunately I never really got into SC2000, (but from what I've seen it looks pretty cool) - but SC3KU is still one of my favorites. I actually found a couple of my old cities and screen shots from back in the day.. maybe you'll see a special SC3KU update one day *;)

I still have a few cities in backup.... I might do a little showcase too one day.  *:)

Hehehe - I think there's even the city that just suddenly started abandoning (or sims just died off....?)... pretty annoying, hence the colorful metaphor which I redacted with some symbols *:P

@RobertLM78 Wow - that's quite a list *:D Would love to see a few of them one day possibly *:)

I've been doing a little more looking around myself and was able to find a couple more cities on an old hard drive - but unfortunately it looks like they might be corrupted and the ones I was able to open up were extremely incomplete/missing pretty much all the custom buildings so there's not much to share yet though sadly. I'm not sure yet if they meet my quality standards *:P I'll have to do some more looking around though and see what else I can find here soon *;)

I'm not sure anything but your current work meets those standards.... *

Corruption of city files is a bummer..... even worse when you've just filled one out.

Well, I guess I'll have to see what I can do then :D

Edit: Hmmmm... this sucks.... I *know* I installed and ran SC3000 on the XP virtualbox before, but now I'm getting the infamous ??? Unknown Exception..... ARGH......!

@RobertLM78 Yeah, having to re-do things I've already done before is one of my biggest pet peeves.. hence why in SC4 I always have to save like every 5 minutes and make backups everyday, I *really* hate redoing things lol. Really hoping that I'll be able to find another backup somewhere with the intact files. I've been digging around a little more and found a few more buildings and other things but still probably not enough to really showcase yet.

Sorry to hear about your problems getting the game to run, hope you can get things worked out! *:)
