Entry no.34 - Dresden Finale + previews of Central Pretoria

This will be the final entry from the South Shore borough and the Dresden.
Dresden was joy to build, modernize(repeatedly) and finally showcase. But now 16 entries(a bit much for a single city right?) and 9 months later its finally time to close this chapter and move on. Much work still needs to be done on my future cities to reach the same level of refinement/detail as seen in Dresden and the pace of CJ entries will most likely slow down from here on. The currently pace of nearly one per week since the new year is not sustainable as I'm starting to see the dreaded signs of an SC4 burnout.

The only thing I haven't done yet is show how the city looks like from elevated views, both day and nite so that's what this final entry will be comprised off. I rarely take photo's from level 2 or 3 zooms because you can't see the finer details, but I have say they're really good for showing networks.

Before I start I like to give big thank you to all those who took the time to comment on this chapter of the CJ; __B, 9gruntsand1hammer, art128, Artimus, Belfastsocrates, Benedict, Bipin, city89, CMinVA, Compdude787, Cyclone Boom, DavidDHetzel, dedgren, Dreadnought, Ducio, egret, Fatjuice, feyss, gen.Falcon, GoKingsGo, gviper, heartless, Hellken, Jack_wilds, J0nnD0ugh, JoshusGellock, kelistmac, Kim Sunwoo, kingofsimcity, kschmidt, lair, Linoa06, Ln X, lucasfg3, michae95l, MilitantRadical, MissVanleider, Mister Giggles, morris128, mrsmartman, MushyMushy, Mymyjp, Need4Camaro, nos.17, Paulobergonci, philforhockey51, Prophet42, raynev1, rkellyywlu, Sabertooth78, Schulmanator, sejr99999, Skimbo, slickbg56, Snugies, sucram17, Swordmaster, T Wrecks, tankmank, tariely, Tekindus, Themistokles, Thomas Diamond, Titanicbuff, Tonraq, Toothless Stitch, Tys, ulisse, Urban Constanta, v701, wirralsquirral & Xander Dax.

That's it, show's over. :(
But...

Preview of things to come
Central Pretoria is much more heavily urbanized then Dresden and the South Shore, so the interchanges and highway system is much more complicated here.

Heavy Industry will also be another big focus

There'll be plenty of rail work and a large port to show as well.

Though I still have lots of mmp work that needs to be done before certain areas are finished.

And I'm hoping to finally restart my favorite little side project. With any luck there should be a couple of releases in the near future ;)

great pics, you seem to be doing more and more in photoshop too, the black and white industrial pictures stood out and so did the weird 'rotated by 45 degrees' style pic that I have seen other people do. It works really well, especially with only the occasional picture to break up the normal angle

Small space reaching for perfection; once it´s there nothing more to add ! Central Pretoria pictures are very promissing; at least you got a strong base to continue on other tiles in the region; rushing city development only ruines the outcome so taking a break is the right thing, well done !

Aaaah, Dresden will be a fond memory ! Those mosaics -- and the seaport installations, again, wonderful !  For what is coming up next, as far as I am concerned, I feel something of a spaghettinite coming on:-). But I know I will learn a lot of the NAM following that CJ !!! Take a good rest, don't burn out, and we'll be waiting here for you.

Thank you for sharing your city with us. I appreciate city tile views, they don't make for the most beautiful pictures possible but I think they look good and are great for sharing with fellow players to get an understanding of what was done to achieve the beautiful zoomed in views. I'm definitely looking forward to your next city.

One last farewell to Dresden. :}

Judging from those previews, I have no doubt that I'll be seeing some crazy stuff in Central Pretoria. That multi-level highway spaghetti is already getting me excited, and I'm glad you're going to bring out some more towers of steel.

Like everyone else said, rest up and take a longer break if you need to. I've had these cycles before (one lasted 5 years, please don't! :P ) but I always end up returning. Take your time, and give those creative juices some time to replenish!

Dresden has been great, looking forward to seeing more from the region now, all your transport networks and some more industry.

Wow I just love Dresden. I love everything from the highways, the ports, residential areas, industrial, and commercial districts.

First time here, and I'm absolutely floored.  This is really some top-notch city building, and as a NAM developer, your highways immediately stood out to me.  Your RHW and Project Symphony usage is absolutely outstanding, and I love what you did with the rail viaducts, too.

@MissVanleider Thanks! I actually hadn't done any photoshopping in a while so I figure it might be a good idea to throw some in for this entry.

@wirralsquirral No problem at all and glad you liked it!

@kschmidt Thanks mate. There's one big project I've just finished that I'll be showing next week, after that things will slow down with the CJ but on the other hand I'll be releasing more stuff on the exchange.

@tariely It will indeed and you just might of hit the nail right on the head with that one...
Thanks for the support I'll try not to force things too much. And I'll be glad to help out with RHW related stuff, there might be a lot of questions as to how I manged to do some of the things coming up ;) Which is only fair since I've learned a lot from your work myself, specifically with water mmps, one major thing that Dresden didn't have. Though thankfully I guess all the other stuff keep people from noticing that was missing in Dresden :P

@philforhockey51 Thanks Phil and I agree re: the city tile views. I know you like to post them up as much as I do, I'd really love to see more of those shots from other CJs.

@kingofsimcity One of them is the rebuild spaghetti junction, I actually have to thank you for motivating me to redo it. I was just going to leave it as is, just because it took me so long to make and I didn't think(at the time) that NAM 34 would improve it significantly(boy I was wrong). It was only after you asked me on the forums when we would see a NAM 34 rebuild of it that I change my mind and went ahead with the rebuild. Amazing what a bit of interest can do to inspire someone.

Btw, while I know you busy with working on more parking textures and lotting, I can't help but wonder when you'll give us some more updates from your CJ. I'm particularly excited to see more of those urban ruins you made after seeing that great photo you posted in the hall of fame thread last year. And 5 years, wow that's a long break! But I know where your coming from having gone through about 3 major breaks myself since I started playing the game, each lasted between a year or two. Mostly due to real life stuff but also because of frustration with CTD. Thankfully managed to get those under control. Still it's pretty neat so see that the game has the magic to bring someone back to it after such a long time.

@tankmank Thanks man! Great to have you on board.

@dabadon5 Glad to hear you liked what you saw.

@Tarkus That's pretty cool to hear, thanks! You might also be interested in seeing some of the highway work I have coming up too then  ;)
I have to say, if it wasn't for the NAM I probably wouldn't be playing SC4 today. Previous releases of the NAM have actually been the reason for coming back to the game after previous long term hiatus. Thanks again for all the hard work you guys put in to help make the game what it is today.

Man, now that the focus has shifted elsewhere, I am totally looking forward to what you have in store in the future! The city pictures remind of me of greeting cards when you come to visit a famous tourist area. Great work!

Hi, your city is very nice. I have some questions for you, where do you find all your industry? and especially the factory in the picture 10 and more, next to the river, the building grey and black with two smokers. :)

I really like how you weave the transportation networks. It must have taken hours.

@Artimus That's pretty cool to hear, I always liked those cards.

@lolo69ol01 Thanks for your comment. For the industry you should check out entry 28. While I didn't go so far as put the links for each building I did name most of the big industrial lots I used there. Finding most of them should be as easy as doing a google search with the name and simtropolis. By two smokers did you mean the power plant? The base lot can be found here; https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2361 but the one I use in my city has been heavily modified with my own custom BAT's.

@gviper Thanks! :thumb:

@Hellken Too many hours to keep track of. When I'm on a role with something like I was with building this city, the hours just trend to fly by and before I know it another day is over. :P

@Titanicbuff Yeah there's not much that can be done about that, RRW textures under Project Symphony aren't available yet. However the NAM team is working on it so by the next release it should be fixed.

@Compdude787 Thanks! Appreciate the comment :)

Wow very nice. In the 4th pic down, middle-left, is that "Avenue to parallel roads" transition a NAM puzzle piece? Can you let me know what menu it is under? I have been trying to find some way to do just that without needing an interchange or traffic circle.
