Hello Simtropolis!

My name is Luca and I’m a 26 year old graphic designer from Italy. I was lurking for quite some time now (I believe years  ) and decided to de-lurking right now with this message(!). I spend a lot of time in front of computers because of my work... but not only.

Sim City is a part of my digital experience since the SNES incarnation (if I’m right, I saw SC only once before, running on some friend’s Mac Classic).

SC is a unique game. It seems to be a rather constant part of my gaming habits and I love its aesthetics. I only wish to have some more spare time to dedicate to it.

I’ve discovered the “custom side” of SC4 tardy; as a result I’m a complete ***** here. But I’m very information-hungry and already working on a RL-Scale map. So, let's get down to business!

Hello, I am Calispell, 25 and French, and I discovered Simtropolis through simcity.ea.com's BBs, where they were saying ST was the most safe and interesting place to discuss and find downloads for SC4. Well, I guess I am not very gifted yet at this game, that I got in Deluxe edition a few weeks ago, and that was attracting me so bad because of the management aspect. Really I've read so much about it before to install it, and it's as if I had missed something more than important .

So, you will see me more in the off-topic section, where I may reply in some chain games when I find it funny and clever to do so, and in the Sims 2 section, where I've opened my first Sims "diary" ever, with some pics I had kept when I was playing all night long .

Hello, I am Muck. That's what everyone calls me. My proper name is John. I am from the U.S. (Pittsburgh, PA) I have been playing Simcity forever, since the very first one, and have wasted many hours of my life doing as such, but it does scratch that creative itch seeing as how I don't do much drawing or painting anymore. I do, however , still consider myself to be an artist, although in the last few years I have focused more on my writing. Keep an eye out for my work. I'm sure to sell or publish something someday!

Im a student (Freshman) and I just installed SC4 on my laptop last weekend, but it's been on my home PC since '04. I've played the franchise since I was 8 - SimCity 2000 on my dad's computer. It's one of my all-time favorite games, but I feel totally shown up by all the great cities and regions on ST. I guess that's good; it motivates me to try and get back to playing SC4 so I can build better cities. Besides, there's not much else to do, except study...

Hey everyone! My name is Mitchell (also known as RoninMastaFX on the internet). My hometown is London, Ontario, Canada. I am 18 years old, turning 19 on the 16 of this month...and I'm looking foreward to it.  

Anyway, some of you may know me from the Unreal Tournament scene...but I am an avid SimCity player since...well, SimCity 2000 Special Edition. Ever since then, I bought virtually every single SimCity game after SimCity 2000 Special, and I love them all. My favourite version is SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition.

I found this place after finding some mods back in 2007 sometime, registered some time later, but due to massive rl issues in the past...I have just started my first post today. XD But other than that, I'm a nice guy, and a very easy guy to get along with. You shouldn't have any problems with me.

Hello.  I am 27, live in Minneapolis MN and have been playing SC since the SNES.  I have been playing SC4 on and off since it first came out.  I have only had internet at home for a bit over a year now (sad huh?) and have only just discovered the bloody huge SC fan base that is on the web about  6 months ago.  

I sell hair care products for a living, and in the spare time I hang out, go out, and tinker with and build things.

I just found this forum and decided to register. Really brilliant! An introduce? I'm 14 (one month to 15) year old High school student from Rijeka; Croatia. I've been playing SC4 for about two years now and I wanted to see how good is the rest of the SC gaming world. Much better than me, I can see now. I also read the beginnings of some diaries and I thought when I saw different houses, water, tunnels exc. 'Are they playing the same game as I?' After that, I realised the full meaning of 'custom content'. This is not only an introduce, I wanted to ask you where I can find that great mods and download them (I have SC deluxe) except buying STEX? I'm talking about that great houses&commercial buildings, better water (rusty shore color), country roads and other great stuff. I have read all the 'Getting started' topics, but I still don't understand why the page is so slow? That's probably it, then. I'm gonna (probably) buy STEX v2 and start to enjoy. See ya

It's very cool, where do you suggest I get started? I see tons of buildings on that STEX thing, can I use them in my game? Do they cost anything?

Hey Brad. The STEX is totally free, and pretty easy to use. We've got a tonne of tutorials in the Omnibus section of the website.

Generally, you need Sim City 4 Rush Hour (the Expansion Pack), or Sim City 4 Deluxe for most of the downloads on the Exchange to work. Most of them unfortunately don't work with the original version of Sim City 4.

Before downloading anything, you should get the nightlights update, which makes most, if not all, downloaded buildings "light up" at night. To do this: you need to download the EP1 Update for the game. Go here: http://simcity.ea.com/update/index_update.php?product=EP1&x=30&y=7. For whatever region you live in, download the specific SKU1 file.

Then you need to download the SC4Update4BAT, which is here: http://www.simcitynation.com/media/downloads/SC4Update4BAT.exe Install the EP1 Update first, ignore the warning, and then install the SC4UpdateBAT file. Then you're pretty much done, and you can start downloading.

You need to read the online description of the file, and the README file in the download (if there is one), and check for Dependencies . Dependencies are extra little downloads that are required for a file to work properly. So if there are dependencies, you need to download these too, as well as the original file you are downloading.

When you download something, it will be in a .zip folder. All downloads (unless explicitly stated otherwise) need to go into My Documents/Sim City 4/Plugins. The easiest way to do this is to open up that directory, and open up the .zip folder, and copy and paste, or drag and drop, the files over.

Sometimes inside the .zip folder there will only be a .exe file. All you have to do in that case is to double click it and follow the instructions.

I'd recommend organizing your Plugins folder, so that you know where everything is. For instance, do something like this: Sim City 4/Plugins/AuthorName/NameOfBuilding/[Files]. This is so that you can easily find a file.
