Simtropolis Monthly Reputation Leaders

It took a while - 12 times as long as the yearly list! but I'm finally done with the monthly leaderboards. For now I've decided not to do a weekly leaderboard even though I think that would provide the most interesting data, because it would take me 52 times as long to do compared to the yearly list and 4.33 times as long as this list which has taken me about 5 hours to complete. If the leaderboard search index speeds up one day I'll revisit that idea though it's also possible that the software itself will be able to provide that data sometime soon.

Alright, here is a list of the monthly reputation leaders for every month since the rep system was implemented on March 20, 2009. Numbers bolded in gold indicated new single month high. Quotations beside a members name denote the number of months that member has lead the site overall. Clicking on the month will take you to the leaderboard page displaying the totals for that month.

In July 2012 I got a huge amount of rep and I held the record for over 4 years. 

But I have no idea what I did during that month to get so much rep. I didn't upload any BATs and I didn't even make many posts. I went to my profile and looked through my content from that time and couldn't find anything to account for it. 

Does anyone know where I might have gotten that rep from?

Checking the post rep logs on your profile, from page 173 there's a good 18 pages in July 2012.

18 pages =  ~450 likes

(25 listed per page, including your own likes given)

Since the total is 470, that's a big chunk of it...

Sometimes, when I'm seeking for some special information, and I find something helpfull, I like it - and I don't look if the member is still active or if the post is 5 years old. I just want to point out that it was helpfull. With you - having seed so many usefull hints over the years, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some 'background noise' of rep caused by the essential knowledge you put into the community. But then, I can't judge the behaviour of other users on this. But maybe it's not only actual posts in a period to take into account. There could be also accumulative effects. 

Sometimes there are popsongs getting into the chart a year after they had been released, just because a radio stations plays it regulary. Sometimes it takes a lifetime to find recognition. The principles of popularity are something strange. And sometimes books or films made only to be blockbuster they flop. Sometimes people go made on a smartphone just because of the logo. I'm not shure if it's a mechanics with fixed principles. It could be these principles are more a sort of 'religion' you believe in. And the truth is: popularity is arbitrary. Don't know.

I do this too with the exception I do tend to see if the member is still active. That doesn't change whether or not I click the Likey button, but when I find something useful I get curious if they are still around or not. For those who are still active I wonder if they have Like Notifications turned on and when they get beeped if they laugh about getting rep from ancient times.

Can't say how I'd feel about getting likes something I posted 10 years ago since I barely posted anything back then. But I know I like getting likes from something I posted two hours ago just as much as I do from something I posted two years ago and I think most users probably feel the same.
