It's... precious!!!!

We really need more back-alley facades!

On second sight, it looks a lot like Reddonquixote's W2W buildings from Melbourne, don't you think?

Yeah, 'lazy'... right. When I read that, I was expecting a rather generic and bland back - which wouldn't even have been a problem. Instead, I find myself getting lost between all those details! That's some pretty impressive modeling there. *:thumb:

I've tried to update the Volkhuis building, mainly because I hated the backside of the original version. I really don't like doing the roof and the backside of buildings, also because I'm not very good at it. For the backside of this building, I tried to mash some buildings/models I found on the internet together, because I'm lazy.

Thoughts?

Impeccebale beauty! What a sight to behold, wonderful. Please never stop :D

Does anybody know why this might happen?

I also want to update the Victoria Hotel; I want to make it smaller, like so:

Unfortunately, the .max file keeps freezing, so I don't know if I will manage to finish it.

I liked very much each building that has been going up, but the only bad thing that I do not like is that they are super miniature buildings and size 1x1 or 1x2, it would have been better bigger size 4x4 or 4x6 or bigger. It seems that I build buildings in a city for mice.

Code 6 is just a generic code for something going wrong. Usually it happens in gmax though, not max.

Indeed Code 6 really doesn't give us any information to help diagnose the problem. I doubt it would make a difference, but merging all the parts into a new scene may work. If not, somewhere more than likely you've got a problem related to the geometry. Tracking that down won't be a lot of fun, but if you changed something with the model before this started, perhaps you can trace the issue.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

Î would also merge my scene into a new blank file (select geometry -> Save Selected -> Import Merge into a new scene). Hopefully that will solve it, it should.

Thanks for the advice! I did however fix the issue (I don't remember how though, but rendering works now).

Woah, where did you hide all those models that you are releasing?! So much beautiful work....

What I would suggest, since there are a lot of similar buildings, is to upload them as a pack. For instance a pack containing a pack of buildings that allow you to create an Amsterdam or similar neighborhood/block. This would make it easier for users to find relevant content, I believe so anyway. Just my 2 cents. Anyways, wonderful work!

Yeah, I had a bunch of models lying around. Some of them weren't even intended for SimCity. I do still have quite a few unfinished projects which I might upload, if I find time and motivation. I'm not going to do the pack thing though. I don't see the point.

Are you creating these models for work or something similar?

The idea of a pack is simple: for users it's easier to download one pack with connected similar content to create a distinct style rather than having to download lots of individual files. Of course you can upload each building on their own, but it may not be the most user friendly option.

No, just for fun. At a certain point I just didn't felt like dealing with the hassle of exporting the models to SimCity (scaling, nightlighting, exporting, lotting etc.), so I had a lot of buildings just sitting there. But somehow I found motivation again to upload. As for the uploads, I would say: take it or leave it.

Personally I'm glad you found the motivation to work on some of these models and thank you for sharing them with us. Those you have released are generally of a very high quality and whilst clearly very Dutch, they fit well in other environments also. I've certainly been excited to see your recent releases on the STEX. :)

Yes. It's a little bit like the dance club opened at 9 p.m. All the girls marched in ... and shure I downloaded them all. But now I have to check them out individually, have a little talk with them, finally ask some of them - would you like to visit my city? All this may take some time until I can give a proper rating on the STEX. I'm a fast guy on downloading but until I fall in love may take some time. Doesn't mean much, doesn't tell much about the girls BATs.

Or maybe (using less critical metaphors?)  - all those delicious dishes, you can't eat them all as quickly as they were served. But don't worry, just do as you feel and like. Motivation is the most important thing.

And I'm so glad, they are there - so happy to see you back.

Even if it takes some time to digest. The cooking is much appreciated.

I'd like to chime in and thank you for your superb uploads. *:) They have all been little marvels to look at so far, and I'm especially happy that you went the extra mile to give them proper night lights so they look as cosy and welcoming at night as Dutch/Flemish houses usually do (at least I think so).

I've tried to create some buildings again after a long time. Regarding my absence, it's just that sometimes I lose interest and then it is somehow reignited. Also, not to be a downer, but I do feel like creating these buildings is a bit of a sinkhole for my time, because I don't feel like you get anything in return for putting in all this effort. But I still have to do it, lol. My goal is to build an entire city of buildings, basically. That would be cool.

Anyway, this is a building I've been working on.

    3231598a0277d4ff42a89ecfd67c3987.png

It's basically a European fictional townhouse (?) type of building.

However, of course I run into issues when I get into modelling again. For example:

    499676b757dcbd7293aedd7e3e92cf91.png

When I render this building, the contrast/brightness seems messed up. Any one know why this might be?

Also, I'm really not sure how I would name a fictional building. I hope somebody can give me some advice on this.

Honestly, I still have been modelling buildings. I've just not finished or released these buildings. Maybe I could share them.

However you wish. You can make up a street name and put the "houses"/"aparments" etc... behind it. Or the dutch equialent of it. But you can use anything really. Since it's fictional, you can choose your favouirte movie or series and name the building after the names of the characters...
Your creations are always beautiful. Sadly I have not enought time recently to play, but your buildings are in my plugins folder, so whenever I find the time to play, those buildings will show up in my cities.

Glad to see you back! I really enjoy the incredible detail you put into your models.

Regarding the bright exports, I would check your gamma settings - I seem to recall this being an issue for newer versions of max, as evidenced here (although most of the image links are broken now). The help thread goes into some discussion of correct gamma settings under the "getting started guide." Also worth mentioning is the gamma fix for max 2014 or later, though I believe it's only relevant for the export process.
