Rio 2016 Project

It is my pleasure to announce Rio 2016, a unique project that will combine some of the greatest BATers with the finest CJers here at Simtropolis. The goal of this project is to recreate famous areas of the great city of Rio de Janeiro with a particular focus on Olympic venues and tourist areas. The culmination of this project will be a City Journal which will launched in the build-up to the 2016 Olympic Games (August 6-20, 2016). The purpose of this thread is to coordinate projects and for BATers to display their work.

 

If you wish to apply to join this project please let me know. We are seeking to involve many people, but please understand we also strive to maintain extremely high standards with this project. We want this to be amazing and something that energizes the community.

Perhaps, the problem might be the high number of dependencies. Certainly all the BATs will be available.

Just wondering guys if you need someone to do transit textures for you to give a more Rio feel. I don't know how much work you would need but I might be able to do some textures for you.

If you wanted to make some Brazilian road textures that could be used in LE that would be great. You can see in my picture of Rio in the first post I used custom road textures by heblem.

I did a first preview of Maracanã few days ago on my thread, and now I'll post here a little update

My problem with the seats remain. I tried to make it with Sketchup, but the model has just too slow on import. I will try now with the tip that Jason gave with 3ds Max. It's a little more complicated, but I'll try.

The only missing parts to be modeled are the existing stairs in that glass building, the chairs of reserve players and entries at the base of the stadium. Not yet modeled these for lack of image, I'm looking for good images to be aware of the correct measurements and etc.

The blue on the top floor is where the photovoltaic cells will be. The two columns with blue below will be very reflective glasses. In the glass building I also plan to put other things in addition to the stairs. I plan to fix some little modeling issues and start texturing the stadium tomorrow.

Just thought I'd make a quick update, and start posting here on the Rio 2016 thread. I changed the scale of the BAT reducing it by 10% less in terms of length and width than it was when I initially made it. Does it look better (or taller) than before, or should I revert it back to the original scales I had. Note, it fit quite snuggly into a 5x4 BAT. Now it should be a little less than snug. Roof is mostly untextured until I figure out what textures to apply and the pic hasn't been desaturated so this is real color as compared to my previous update Added the Banco do Brasil Logo and I re-did the glass canopy. So in short, not much happened, but a little did XD
