47ply: Thanks, I was very thorough with Weckum as I checked each and every building.

 

mrsmartman: What I mainly experimented with was W2W buildings, alleyways and the building plop cheat.

 

coolwiththecool2: It really was an accident. I didn't even realise it had grown in my city as I was focusing on one area for about half an hour, then I go over to the roundabout with the underground parking and hey presto! Super big skyscraper!

Update 80: Welcome to Weckum

 

 

The city of Weckum.

Let's start with the central station and the three city blocks to the right of the station.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The first block is right by the river.

 

 

 

Where possible I have gone for W2W buildings or buildings which snugly fit into the space between their companions.

 

 

 

Paeng's designated cyclepaths are amazing to use as city fillers.

 

 

 

Paeng's diagonal parking fillers are also top notch to.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Moving on to city block 2 which is largely residential with a smattering of hi-rise flats.

 

 

 

 

I always liked that little FAR kink to the road on the left.

 

 

 

 

 

I paid a lot more attention to alleyways because they are usually the main means of access for parking and loading points.

 

 

 

 

There is nothing like a row of brownstones.

 

 

 

 

 

Block 3 is mostly commercial with some flats and a church to.

 

 

 

A stable and riding school all in one.

 

 

 

Paeng's designated cyclepaths are just perfect for separating areas.

 

 

 

Special mention must be made of Goofyguytpa BATs, they are largely midrise W2W buildings perfect for urban areas or New York or Chicago themed cities. If you have a craving for W2W content on the STEX then look at Goofyguytpa's creations.

 

 

 

 

 

 

It is one thing to add in alleyways between buildings but they would be boring without some MMPs to bring them to life. Vehicles, Sims, products, garbage and even road works transform alleyways.

Amazing. I really like the look/idea of all those bikepaths, alleyways and diagonal parking to fill the area. Also big thumbs up for naming some of the bats/mods.

That overview of the city is amazing. To me, that canal/river is what makes it stunning, even for low wealth/gritty type of area.

 

Amazing selection of buildings, that is for sure.

YES!!! The bike lanes and alley usage and W2W and parking and cars and the horse ranch in the middle of the city that I imagine is for horse drawn carriage rides. Excellent. It is so good it makes me want to write a run on  sentence!

Mymyjp: I was going to make the river longer but I decided it should mark out a roughly 4km² area. Also I downloaded a few hundred more buildings in my search for W2W content, I have a W2W obsession at the moment.

There are at least 70 W2W buildings created by Goofyguytpa all of which are grimy, tacky and a perfect fit for New York or Chicago tile sets.

SylvioJ: Thank you, I put in a lot of work going through each area and making sure the RCI buildings fitted in as best as they could.

 

Tonraq: Those small town American BATs -- the W2W, low-rise and commercial stores -- are perfect RCI fillers for any grimy city. Also now that I'm using the building plop cheat it is getting much easier tailoring the look of a city right down to the individual buildings.

Update 80: South Weckum

 

Here comes even more grime and grit, but this time from factories, assembly halls and other manufacturing complexes.

One part of South Weckum and the part this entry will cover.

 

 

 

A gas refinery- and a mighty fine relot of the Maxis gas-fired power station.

 

 

 

 

 

Simcoug's diagonal tenements are perfect residential fillers for diagonal roads and avenues.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The elevated carpark is for train passengers while the smaller ground carpark is for station workers.

 

 

 

 

 

SimHoTToDDy's BSP Fisher Body Plant 21, the finest BATted SC4 factory I have ever set my eyes upon. This is strictly a growable industrial building so lay down a designated 11 by 7 industrial zone and, with a massive amount of manufacturing demand, watch this beauty grow.

 

 

 

Further use of T Wreck's W2W IRM buildings plus IRM fillers.

 

 

 

Thanks to stricter water pollution ordinances, this river is once more alive, healthy and thriving. In the bad old days it would be a foul-smelling, soot-covered graveyard- just like UK rivers running through industrial cities in the 70s and back.

 

 

 

 

I always make sure the carparks in industrial BATs link up to the road, and if not I use carpark fillers to connect them to the road.

 

 

 

Again, it is all about the carparks and road connections.

 

 

 

 

 

The railway line running up the picture was the first one I laid down, it originated from the massive car factory. I also built a central station but then I realised this railway line was a dead end. Thus I created the railway line travelling to the left of the picture and all without rearranging the strip of grassland or significantly destroying areas to the left.

Update 81: Interchange in Annuq

 

This is a small update for today folks. No sooner did I complete Weckum than I immediately began work on the next city Annuq, so in this update there will be several pictures of an 8C/6S T-interchange I completed plus two teaser shots of East Annuq's industrial strip.

I don't spend much time with RHW because it is so time-consuming, but I still know my way around the various items.

 

 

 

Right now I'm trying out the Sudden Valley terrain mod. By removing the Maxis base texture replacement file and raising the entire city tile's height four or five times, this amazing dark green/brown leafy terrain texture appears. You will see a sliver of it in the last two pictures. In the interchange pictures the terrain is greener because I was inadvertently using the Maxis base texture replacement file.

 

 

 

Know your turning lane pieces, they always spice up the RHW.

 

 

 

For some reason whenever I build interchanges I feel compelled to throw in a lake or two in the centre.

 

 

 

 

 

 

For some reason the distribution of the flora to the right reminds me of the Dead Marshes in LOTR.

 

 

 

My latest SC4 obsession are canals and barges.

I would say Annuq -- a 4 by 4 city tile -- should be completed in about ten days time, for some reason it's getting quicker and easier to complete these cities. In the meantime the next several entries will be in Weckum.

What are you using for the rail grass? I see the rail next to many other lots, but no apparent base texture? I really need to start hitting you up for tips!

Yet another great looking industrial town. All your cities seems to have a very unique feel/atmosphere to them, that's not easy to accomplish at all. Looking forward to seeing more of that canal as well.

 

Also I almost always see some new building or mod in you cities that I've never seen before. Aside from simtropolis & sc4 devotion, is there any other site that you frequent/recommend for lots?
