    - Welcome everyone to || Recreating New York City by Kelis || -

Okay, some time has passed since the last update but don't worry my friend, I still working and making progress in my city. The reason for this little stop was the next, first, I had some problems with my computer and I had to format the computer and also all SC4 tools and then copy all my plugins, when I had all my plugins copied then I passed the region map of my New York city and I saw some issues, the region had not copied well or some file was wrong, I'm not sure but anyway, I take that situation and I created a slightly larger map using as a base map the excellent map created by

so during this last days I've worked putting all buildings and road on the map once again, that was quickly but now I have the second problem, well this problem is know it for all SimCity 4 players...the right angles !! I want to make a beautiful recreation, something pretty nice to see and for that reason I have to do right angles, to make perfect lots, but for that reason some parts of my New York can not be equal to reality. For example some angles do not match perfectly to create the Bowling Green Park and even the most important, I cannot make an accurate map of roads because some roads have small angles...

This is a picture of my currently New York city (Lower Manhattan) recreation, here you can see what I'm talking about the angles. Anyway I think the result now could be good, the roads are not perfect but it looks good for the eyes, I mean if you don't know the roads and you just know the skyline, I think this is taking shape. Well I hope you like it, coming soon more updates.

It really is turning out quite nicely. By the pictures you've already been posting in previous updates, I feel kinda surprised that this is all you've done so far. I could've sworn the city was almost complete :P

Well, that is an issue that concerns all players... angles kinda work against you, but, I managed to beat the angles by doing something like EJC used to do back in 2008.. so as Lucky7... There is a way you could do the buildings to fit, but necessarily be on a square lot... I can see that you also edited the map, which is not gonna work in your favor, because of the fact that you no longer follow the limit the real city has. It is important at this point to follow the next few steps:

    1) Sometimes it is better to go for long distance realism, than close up realism.. you see, from a close up point of view, your city looks amazing, it is extremely detailed, not ncessarily the same as the real thing *Comment on this before I proceed, I liked what you did, but there were some lots that did not resemble the real thing, and some were extremely accurate and loved them* anyways, sometimes, close ups look nice for a picture, but to be honest, I was a little dissapointed by the pic you posted above. I mean, so much work, so much time spent, and in the end, it doesnt resemble the real thing. I mean yes, it "looks" like downtown Manhattan, but it can be easily seen, that it is not like the real one, it lost its shape, and it lost the proportions. So, my first solution for this is, forget about close ups, work on the general aspect, and then work on the insides.. you know, let the details flow after you have a general shape modelled and done. After all, details are only seen on close ups, but Im probably sure that since you are looking to recreate it, you want it to look equally good from close and far from it.

    2) Dont change maps, the map made by Izidor44 was the best map available, which makes it also a draft if you will, of what you have to follow... dont change it

    3) Forget about straight lines in Downtown Manhattan.. they dont work, and to be honest, are not needed... as I said before, there is a combination of EJC+Lucky7 and a way to tune the lots in order to fit on any shape...

    4) I pmed you about this, I would like to ask again, and see if you would conider what I proposed since, even though we all have particular styles, there is no way on man can have all thins needed for such a task =)

It looks exactly like NY in the 90's! Awesome recreation!

I only think your map is way too small. Probably the original Maxis map has the real size.

Hmmm.. doesn't look like has been BATed already. And also, you didn't double post. Double posting means you post 2 times in a row without another using posting after you. ;)

BTW, great progress so far, you just tricked me because in the past few pictures, it looked like it was completely done. :P

I took the long-distance approach when I attempted to recreate Milwaukee, WI.  Unfortunately, I ran into issues of major highway interchanges being split between two tiles, etc, and having to redesign the whole thing.  Takes a lot of planning and patience to do when TJD did with Edmonton and even that wasn't PERFECT, but it felt like a real-life city in terms of spacing.

    - Welcome everyone to || Recreating New York City by Kelis || -

    # Today I will show you my way to make and create this city and recreation. Perhaps this is not  the best way or more accurate to do it but is my way, this is the way what I can enjoy playing SimCity 4 and to me that is the most important.

I will use this update to make a little tutorial as well, because some of you sent me some MP to ask about some personal lots, etc...

    # Okay I want to dedicate the first part of this update to reply the comment of our friend cmdp123789 because I think is important to make some clarifications. I totally agree with you and your nice comment, and I have to say that I like so much the comments like this and for that reason I think is good to me try to explain you all what I'm trying to do making this recreation. As you can see in my pictures, my first goal always is try to do the most realistic pictures as I can, and of course that mean fight against the game limitations, as a players we've to take the best way to get what we can do, in my case I want a real New York but I'm not talking about just the region/transport view, to be honest that is the part that's the part that I worry less because we all have seen pictures of New

York region in SimCity 4, but in this pictures you are not able to see the city, the streets, the details, the people and cars... and that's exactly what I'm trying to, a lot of pictures and even videos of this city, but almost always close pictures to see life in NYC, of course I will try to do most close to the reality, but always with that "margin-game" but my main goal is to share with you close shots of the most famous parts of the city and also the not so famous...

    #################################################################################################

Okay, let's see today's update, this is focusing in the Battery park aparments located pretty close to the World Financial Center, now lets see some steps to get the final result:

    36735312315_a302094e09_o.jpg

First step always is condition the soil. You can use a road or a shore to make more easy the size of each lot. As you can see in the first picture my area is bounded for a shore, a final road and the buildings of the World Financial center, so seeing this I can deduce that my LOT will have a size of 7x14 so let's go to use the lot editor tool...

The second step is work with the lot editor. This might be the most boring part of the process, you have to search props one by one and put all of them in your LOT until you get the result that you are looking for... so my recommendation is to be patient and not rush.

The third and last step is to place the lot in your city. This is the best part of this process and all of you know how you have to do it, just plop the model in the correct place.

    #################################################################################################

    # Now we will see two pictures of the final lot that I've created to recreate this part of the city, I hope you like it my friends *:)

    ~ R E P L I E S ~

edwardjeria - Thanks for your comment and advices.

Konstantinll - Thanks mate, that's exactly what I'm trying to do.

Huston - Yes, I can understand that, but as you know this is a slow process *:D

cmdp123789 - Hi my friend. Thanks once again for your comment. I'm playing this game since a long time and I understand everything you say and I just can say thanks for all your advices, but without wanting to be ungrateful I have to say that I know all the things that you've said and I have to say that is not my style, I want to do special things and not copies. I know almost all parts of New York city, I saw the city using Google Earth almost 1.000.000 times *:D and I think the entire city is in my mind and for that reason each thing that I do or I don't do is for a reason, everything is under control to make "My own recreation of this city" of course you can have your own vision of a recreation in this game and I respect that vision but I have to say that is not the same vision than mine. About the New York Mercantile Exchange I know that building and it's location in RL, if I have not put that building in that place precisely is because that building make too wide the Lower Manhattan part and it looks strange from the region view. As I told you everything is under control.

Josh6 -  Thank you so much for your kind comment !! I'm using a sidewalk that I've created myself using a MAXIS textures.

wwetom1 - Thanks my friend !! Today you can see more of those "behind the scenes" hope you like it.

Ultimate727 -  Thanks my friend !! I I thought the maxis map is too small, my map is more big than maxis map *:)

Tekindust - That's a smart comment, Muchisimas gracias compañero !

    G. Algebra - Thank you once again for your kind comment my friend.

Benedict -  Thanks my friend, I will try to climb to the top of the list this week again *:thumb:

Roger51 - Thank you so much my friend, I'm really glad you like it and you can see that effort, thanks !!

Packersfan -  Yes, I remember the Edmonton recreation, as you said was not perfect, but you could see the real Edmonton in each picture and for that reason that CJ was great. Thanks for your comment.

I hope the lot edition part is not "bored" but "boring"! Beware of literal translations!

However, I couldn't correct a pixel in your pics, once again it is over the top. And also, it is cool to see some "making of" updates from the ones that make us enjoy! ¡Graaande!

If we were all to do the things the same way, when it comes to recreating New York, there would be no point in doing them over and over again. Everyone is entitled to their reinterpretation of the RL situation. Problems like this are what bring out the creativity [in solving them].

I really like the feel of Battery Park City and I think you're doing an amazing job!

Jonathan, this is absolutely amazing. I myself tried something like this, but I couldn't muster up the dedication to continue with it. I know how hard it is though to collect all those BATs, and having been there myself this summer, I can only applaud how wonderfully you are handling this daunting task. Your recreation is so seamless. You just never miss a thing. Though I guess my only nitpick at this point is how the trees in your fourth picture have both spring and winter trees. But then again, you wouldn't have much control over that I guess. Still, really amazing images! :D
