Aha...I am visiting Melbourne JUST at this moment and I paid special attention to this building when I walked across the Yarra river this afternoon through Webb bridge! I took a picture and bring Tower 2 to you. Is the building on the right side you're planning to make, Reddon? Btw, it really looks better than it is in reality! Melbourne is such an incredible city :)TIMG_0_zpsf96549fc.jpg

Before I was involved into Simtropolis and SC4, I used to have a steryotypical assumption that Australia is a thrird world country with kangaroos and beach hut settlements.

That's exactly what almost all the developed countries think about the rest of the world. I remember watching bugs bunny going to South America, only to find native Indians trying to eat him. Such a shame that history isn't enough, specially when almost all those countries are the reason of that conception based on their egocentric desires and greed.

I've been to Flinders Street Station, Federation Square, St Paul's Cathedral, St Patrick's Cathedral, Parliament House, Royal Arcade, Melbourne Central, Chinatown, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne Museum, Shrine of Rememberance, Royal Botanic Gardens, National Gallery of Victoria, Etihad Stadium, Harbourtown Shopping Centre, Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, Melboune Zoo, Captain Cook's Cottage, Southern Cross Station...Reddon's BATs make me familiar with everywhere! Now I'm having dinner at Hophaus Bar inside Southgate Shopping Centre. I'm leaving Melbourne for Sydney tomorrow, putting an end to 3 day journey here. I'm gonna miss everything.

Sorry for being off topic a bit, Reddon.

Well you've been all everywhere! You've probably crossed the Southbank Bridge which has the love locks if you're at Southgate :D Hope you enjoy Sydney as well although we all know Melbourne's better  8)

And yeah sorry about it being slightly off-topic :P

This is the Melbourne BAT thread after all so not really off topic. Besides, Weixc's list of places reads like the front page of my BAT thread  .

Weixc, I think you have been to more places than I have!

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Melbourne. You will have an amazing time in Sydney. Sydney is a great place to visit (just wouldn't want to live there :P :P :P )

    Double post!

This is just to advise I have fixed and re-uploaded on the STEX if anyone wants to get a fixed new version. It was reported by Mister-La Te that the night lights were sinking into the ground but I didn't understand what he was talking about until I just noticed the same thing last night. I think it was a LOD glitch, but has now been fixed. Not sure where else to post this notice as the upload is buried a couple of pages down on the STEX.

As mentioned in the description, I've only fixed the non-diagonal versions as the diagonals ones won't light up for me. If anyone has managed to get them to light up and there is a rendering problem please let me know? Thanks :)

    Probably a side-effect of Melbourne's crappy soil. :P

And yes... I do agree abotu Sydney being a nice place to visit but not a nice place to live ;)

Love your BATs, though - what are you going to do when you've recreated everything in Melbourne?

    Hey Reddon,

I was wondering if you could make us an HD render of St. Paul's Cathedral, so we could really see all of the little details that you've included in the model. I know you typically do SD BATs (which are HD quality), but I didn't know if that was for technical reasons or if you just didn't like waiting for the render to finish on the high res textures.

It'd be ashame to have all that detail be lost on a standard render.

I can't really speak for reddon, but for the most part, we do SD renders because HD looks out of place. It effects the quality of the zoom 5 renders in-game, and makes them look worse. The benefits they get are marginal, as well, because zoom6 is not a popular zoom in the game just because the vast majority of details are completely gone. Very small things like props are rendered HD because they really are only seen at all in that zoom level.

The new building is looking awesome!! And if you're looking for another project that unique bridge would be great to see....

I'd also really like an HD render of St. Paul's (and anything else you could be arm-twisted into doing, as you know :D ). And I take exception to benefits being marginal and zoom 6 unpopular. Furthermore, the effect if HD renders on Z5 vary widely, from significantly detrimental to negligible. SD renders are fairly necessary with the kind of large buildings reddonquixote frequently makes, especially since he makes MN & DN renders to keep everyone happy. I don't think it'd be fair to say he sees HD as only appropriate for small props though.

A vote for HD from me too. I don't use level 5 zoom that much. It doesn't give a good overall view. (I use default monitor display settings) and it doesn't offer much detail. My zoom levels often are 6 and 3 or 4.

I am new to batting and I don't have a firm knowledge on HD 5 Zoom distortion. I don't use DN or 3DS Max, so perhaps nightlight are prone to this. The little I have done has given me an impression that HD 5 Zoom distortion may depend on texture used. Repetive patterns such as brick may show a high effect. I have made only small houses, so possibly this HD 5 Zoom is more noticitable on tall skycrapers.

Anyway, only a small portion of a really big building can be seen on 6 Zoom, so it makes sense to use SD on huge buildings

That is to be expected. People eat rabbits all over the world, not just in South America.

    That's fantastic!

It'll surely add some nice building shape variation to modern cities.

Those two apartment blocks are amazing!

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage
