Decided to start the BAT4Blender learning process with a small uncomplicated little project

AW YEAH!  I am SO glad you decided to do some of the supertall skyscrapers in Manhattan's 57th street "billionaire's row".  I live very close to there and see those buildings all the time.  I've seen city journals of some of those buildings (like One57) but was told that they were never finished and basically just done for the eyecandy of the city journal.  It was so frustrating to see partially completed BATs that were unreleased and never finished.

So far your model looks great!  I hope you can continue to release it and many others!

When I moved back to NYC (in 2021) after living overseas for a while I was genuinely taken aback by all the ridiculous pencil towers. In particular 111 West 57, One57 and Central Park Tower (which CT1999 has already modeled) are visible from near where I live so I see them almost every time I go outside, and I live pretty far uptown.

I don't really do skyscrapers as a rule, so don't necessarily expect any more like this unless something else captures my short attention span. (I've considered making new versions of some older skyscrapers already existing on the exchanges that I use in my cities but where the geometry or texturing aren't realistic. Not started anything though.) I have some low- and mid-rise NYC models in 3DSMax that I got reasonably far with.

Out of interest, what spurred the swtich from Max to Blender. AFAIK MAx is more powerful and although its getting better and better, BAT4MAX is still the benchmark? I'm sure you'll do an amazing job, just curious :) :)

Mostly just that it's difficult to run 3DSMax on a Macintosh (requiring Parallels or a Bootcamp installation, and still doesn't work super well). I may still end up using it for rendering due to issues with BAT4Blender.

Also, BATxMax is made to function with Mental Ray, and 3DSMax stopped supporting it on its 2018 (?) edition.

I also don't have the patience to work out the hill contours… so I just put farmland wherever and let the SimCity engine figure it out. Most of the time, with a little bit of terracing, it works out fine.

Maybe I can try something on this middle hill —but I also have the inconvenient of having very dry, barren terrain, so the wooded foothills don't quite work out. Then again, some crops also don't quite work out.

And sometimes you just gotta deal with a big drop into town.

:-) I'm Glad to see my building :):) Thank you so much

Does anyone know where we can find this building (Grand Hyatt?)   A link would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance!

I mean, you could just read the user's comment right above the picture.

I did and it says "Part of my custom-built Taipei, Grand Hyatt Taipei lot and flag set" and the link doesn't take you to the actual prop, it takes you to a page of information.   So, unless I'm missing something, that's why I asked for the link.  No need for the snarkiness.

That one is not currently available for download.  It might be in the future.  More details as to why on the linked thread, first/top post.
