Years ago I'd started work on Myrtuel City. I think I even tried to start a journal here about it. But then I got interested in what was happening in Paragon City and I spent most of my gaming time playing City of Heroes.

Then there was a sudden announcement a few weeks ago that the game was going to abruptly end. It was too depressing to log in there anymore. But I didn't wanna just not play anything. I remembered that I was once building a city. I re-installed Sim City 4 and recovered my old plugins and save files, and loaded up the game. I had a new CPU, motherboard and RAM now, so the game loaded up a lot faster. There was Myrtuel City, just as I had left it. It was time to go back and finish what I had started!

So this is what I've been doing for the past two weeks. I'm attempting to make almost all the commercial buildings in that downtown area unique, along with a lot of other tweaks. And this is just the south end of the city. The north end is virtually untouched as yet; just lots of empty land.

I have to do something with the highways. The sunken highways look great as-is, but the raised highways look kinda dumb. I might have to go in and bulldoze all the raised highway (and the bridges, which I remember being a PITA to get in right, ungh!), and use raised land with ground level highway. That ought to be a project in and of itself! So I will likely hold off on doing that until the entire south side of the city is otherwise complete.

Actually I should probably show the part of this city that I've been focusing on the most in the past few days...

That Dr. Vu Industry building was a bit of a pain to get in right. Also I discovered that I could not properly query it in order to make it historical. It took me a bit of digging but it turned out there was a third "BSC Essentials" file that had been made between the time I stopped work on this city and now. Downloading that, and going in and picking out the smaller plugins it replaced, did the trick! Yay!

I would love to be able to do that with my cities, but I'm having a lot of difficulty getting the downloads to work. I did something that updated my game and restarted the vehicle driving games (made me do a aircraft training mission, etc). Can someone give me a Tutorial or something on SC4 downloads?

If you mind the incompleteness... I'll make a CJ out of it soon. Well, at least I hope it is soon...

Wow, are those ploppables? How do you grow a city with such...preciseness?

This is what I'm working on. I'm trying to get the entire interstate done first so I know what to build around. That way I also don't have to worry about taking too much space and having to delete stuff later down the road. Heres the layout I wish to go with as well as a couple of the interchanges that I will be using though I'm missing the two complicated ones. I couldn't figure out how to get the whole region in the shot, so I just went with the area I've actually touched. :P I also need to edit the east and west beaches of Concord. I'm not sure how that happened.

If anyone knows how to get onramp/offramps for RHW6 and RHW8 at diagonals I'd love to know!

Hehe, yeah, they're mostly ploppables. I managed to sneak those who aren't in by using the buildingplop cheat. Yeah, I'm a cheaty-faced bastard. :P But I guess the fact that there's an almost entirely handgrown city in the same region redeems it a bit.

Here are some pics of the region that I am working on's first city. Its eventually just going to be a suburb of Queenschurch, which will be a metropolitan centre without further ado here are the pics.

Region View

Greenshot_2012-10-09_19-45-01.jpgThe Industrial Quarter (Will be high tech in the end)

Note the awkward diamond interchange.

Greenshot_2012-10-09_19-57-29.jpgClean power ftw.

Greenshot_2012-10-09_19-58-03.jpgJust some regular urban spawl.

Greenshot_2012-10-09_19-58-24.jpgThe beach area. I am quite pleased with the way this turned out.

Greenshot_2012-10-09_19-59-11.jpgDowntown.

Greenshot_2012-10-09_19-59-32.jpgAnd the unfinished waterfront area.

Greenshot_2012-10-09_19-59-52.jpgThere's still quite a bit of work to do but overall I think its turning out nicely.

That's a great region!

On the click for full resolution thing, my guess is that you upload a lower-sized image and click hyperlink with it selected, linking it to the full-size picture.
