[CSL] Show us what you're working on!
Plastic Manc replied to TPB's topic in Cities: Skylines Showcase
Hey, With the current climate I've had time to do some gaming and got back into CS. After some horrid attempts, watching youtibe at some guides and playing around a bit, I've got something I'm happy with the direction of. I'm always astounded coming on here at what people can achieve with this game but here is my modest effort so far; -

Thanks for the comments. I agree about the LUT. It does look a little better in game but still feels quite "Brownfield". I also agree about the turn onto the bridge. All the intersections are from the Workshop as I have no ability at doing them myself. I give them a little tweak once they are placed to fit them into whats around them a little more, but not much. This is within my skill level though to take it back further and have a much bigger sweeping curve. Not quite sure what to build next to the port above what will be a tunnel entrance/exit. Thinking a very low density high wealth area and a few small beach side shops or maybe a links golf course? The cove in the top right is pencilled in for beach bars and hotels etc. -

Quiet-ish weekend so had the opportunity to spend some time re-building the city I really didn't like above (going back to an early save with just the basics laid out). I'm much happier with how this is turning out and glad I went back and changed it. -

Building Concepts for Hillside Development (Show me your Height Transitions)
Plastic Manc replied to Plastic Manc's topic in SC4 Showcase
Thanks for the replies everyone, apologies I haven't replied sooner but I fractured my collar bone and it makes it hard work to type. I largely play the vanilla game but with NAM and a couple of added content. I've had mt first go at it over the past few days but am not completely happy so will have another go; -
Building Concepts for Hillside Development (Show me your Height Transitions)
Plastic Manc posted a topic in SC4 Showcase
Hi everyone, I'm trying my hand at restarting a region I have built on before, that is a mini version of Japan. Therefore it is quite undulating and contains a range of different hills and mountains. Along with the method of reclaiming land at lower levels to build neat shorelines, I'd like to make use of the lower undulating hills, building a range of residential densities on the hillsides. My tunneling skills have come on a fair bit but I lack the skills to make neat transitions from different heights. I approach cutting into the hillside in 15m increments to almost create a paddy field effect and these can look quite nice. However the height transitions ruin it all. Therefore, I'm asking for you to show me your height transitions so I can develop my ideas and concepts for hillsides, along with some ideas for creating residential areas in steep areas. Many Thanks, Plastic -
Things to beware of putting on new system
Plastic Manc replied to Plastic Manc's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Haha thanks, I'd had my last 775 system for 8 years or so, so after a tax rebate, thought I'd buy something which would last that long again. The GFX card will be changed with my next paycheck but not for SC4's benefit. I like a wide variety of games so need the punch for certain titles. Never used that command line with a Core 2 Duo previously, I take it limits the game to one core? -

Hi all, Just a quick question to circumnavigate frustration. I've completely rebuilt most of my PC updating some pretty ageing hardware and wanted to see if I'm going to run into any problems due to the games age? I'll be running my old plugins folder so shouldn't have any conflicts there. My specs are; Core i7 4790k 16GB DDR3 Nvidia GTX 460 Windows 7 Home Premium (Retail) Looking forward to getting building again. Plastic -
Tips for placing ferry terminals
Plastic Manc replied to Plastic Manc's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
So what is the prefered shape to go for? Do I try and shape a 3x2 or 3x1 with a steep, squared drop-off or a more beachy type transition into the water? -
Hey, I've been really struggling trying to incorporate ferry terminals into my coastlines due to terrain being too steep. The process I use is to flatten the ground down to the lowest available using the nifty 4x1 or 4x4 tool that i can't remember the name of. I then lift the ground using the Hole Digging lot raiser. This allows my seawalls to look right and allows me to use tunnels and sunken highways as it's just high enough but seems to leave it nearly impossible to place a terminal. So does anybody have any tips that might help me get round this as i don't want to lower the land to a point where I can't use tunnels? Thanks, plastic

This is something I'm trying out, very much in its infancy.

Hello, I've been searching the STEX but haven't been able to find what I'm after so I thought I'd turn to the forums for help. I'm looking for something to mask power transfers between cities instead of using ugly looking power lines. This is especially noticable in heavy urban areas where these look hugely out of place. So are there any trees or parks etc which act as power lines to transfer power to neighbour cities?
