There's an error in our user profiles, located above the header:

First noticed it starting around yesterday afternoon. I've tested again on different browsers and profiles, and the error is identical.

Is it possibly something to do with the awards system?

It can seem that post count & reputation recieved goes hand in hand these days... (or in relation to Hal's post; is it profile views instead of post count)

I just went from 349 to 367 reps today, without noticing anyone "upping" my posts

Yeah, reputation can often go unnoticed, as not all comes from uprating posts. The "Reputation" tab in user profiles only shows the points received from the forums.

It doesn't account for contributions in other areas of the site, for example:

  • STEX comments
  • News article submissions
  • News article comments
  • CJ entries
  • CJ comments
  • Omnibus articles
  • Omnibus comments

I am well aware that the rep.tab in profile view doesn't show all!

Still... I've made 3 posts (excluding this) the last 30 mins, no comments on neither STEX nor CJs.. Yet I'm now at 372

I'm not saying I don't want good reputation... just that if the above is the case, such a thing can lead to mis-use of the system

I know this has happened before, but I'm old and can't remember stuff like I used to.... but,... what is the problem when everything I type in the box (as I am now) is in courier font and things like images don't copy over unless I get the IMG code? I know it's on my end but forgot what it is. I only get this on ST and it just started yesterday.

Hmm.  Test image: SmilieCanada.gif

Seems fine to me.  Did you forget to use the image box?

Old?  How old?  I'll be 76 in 12 more days.

Are you using the BBCode Mode by chance? It's toggled by clicking the top left icon, which is saved as a preference each time you use the post editor:

8B4gKsG.png

This will show all formatted text in the equivalent BBCode (in the Courier New font). Think of it as a "behind the scenes" view at what makes up a post.

It can occasionally be a useful way to fix / adjust formatting, such as with numbered lists.

How can I access the mobile site? My phone always goes to the full site, although it should prefer the mobile version (IE on Windows Phone). Opera on Symbian used to do it correctly. It surprises me there's no link to the mobile version at the bottom of the page.

Below each page, at the very bottom, there should be a small link:

Use Mobile Version

After this, it should override and take effect on the whole site (as a saved preference). ;)

It's not there. (I've never seen it, and I do check the bottom of the page often - to copy the link of the General Rules.) :(

edit: Interesting, I've switched user agents (I tried browsing the website in Firefox as if I were on an iPhone) and then the site automatically displays the mobile version. And the full version does indeed show the 'use mobile version'-link. Not so on Windows Phone, which is odd, because IE usually displays mobile sites correctly...

edit2: also, what about adding support for an app like Tapatalk?

You know, I am not sure that such a thing is worth doing unless there are several requests.  The site can get overloaded and become unmaintainable if everybody and his brother has a different personal interface.  How about you stick to one of the supported ones?

So i'm trying to port over one of my guides from simpeg to the omnibus.  In the omnibus article editor, the header editor box works perfectly fine, but the lower 'body' editor box-which is a required field-seems perpetually stuck in BBC mode, and the entire toolbar is greyed out and unresponsive. Also, when trying to use the 'body' box it seems regular enter key linebreaks aren't working for me unless i enter a linebreak tag.

So:

-Is there someway i can toggle the 'body' editor box to a 'normal' mode?  Trying to work with a solid block of courier makes me want to gouge my eyes out

-If not, is it acceptable for me to put the entirety of the article into the top header box and just use the 'body' box for my sig or something?

~Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Very weird indeed. The switch isn't there.

I'll pass that along.

Thanks Hamish /salute.

There should be a switch at the top-left corner of any text box on this website that toggles live BCC-code on or off.

Should be, yes.  However:

Quite a strange bug you've found there. Looks like that button has taken a walkabout, and the editor is defaulting to HTML Mode.
Here's a temporary workaround suggestion (yes, it's not ideal):

1.  In your browser, open two instances of the add an article page (in separate tabs). Let's say they're called Tab 1 and Tab 2.

2.  With Tab 1, write up your teaser paragraph as normal.

3.  Now in Tab 2, in the functioning top editor, write the body of the article. Here you can easily use all the formatting tools.

4.  Once written, still in Tab 2, click the BBCode toggle iH1Us7m.png .  Your text will be converted into the raw formatting code.

5.  Select this all (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C).

6.  Back in Tab 1, paste the contents (Ctrl+V) in the bottom non-functional editor, making up the body of the article.

7.  Modify the title, category and other settings to your liking.

8.  Preview the article to check the formatting.

9.  Once ready, it can be submitted. :)

Tried to use the search function in the CJ section to find out if it's properly functioning already. But, no cigar. :(

Search functions are really difficult because you eventually have to make them into a SQL SELECT statement which can lead to all kinds of problems if the function doesn't handle things properly.  That is if the data base is a properly built SQL table or tables.  The application side is not much, but interpreting a user's request sometimes becomes an NP complete problem.

There is something strange with my New Horizons group. For some reason, members like Bipin and petahhhhhh became members of the group without their permissions. I didn't ask them to be members and obviously I didn't forced them. Here is what they say:

Just a heads up, I am experiencing some issues with the inability for outsiders to comment on my threads; those which are not part of this group. It's an especially big problem for help threads, such as my one regarding Sketchup. I have decided to leave the group as a "test" to see if this will fix the problem. If it doesn't, I'll PM the group leader(s) in effort to re-add me.

I've had the same problem... I wasn't a part of this group to begin with, but someone must've added my thread to it (without telling me first!) which prevented me from posting my content.

Please remove my thread from the New Horizons group!

petahhhhhh's problem is even worse because he can't even post his content in his own topic! This is sad and I have no idea who, how and why made this. The only solution, for now, is to make the forum of Hew Horizons available for everybody to post, not only for members anymore. Yes, I've discovered this ability just right now. I don't know what's happening here and I could never add somebody in my group without his/her permission, just because he/she made a few futuristic stuff.

Does anybody else has the same problem with the other groups too or it's just me? Can this problem be solved?

Does anybody else has the same problem with the other groups too or it's just me? Can this problem be solved?

I think the problem here is yet another case of the "Merged Group Bug". It's rather strange and quite rare, but seems to randomly occur with topics that include tags. The topics aren't physically moved, but do have this appearance. If you're not a member of the group (or guest posts are disabled), the topic will be locked in a "read-only" state. For example, in the named you can see the visible tags in the initial post, underneath the title. It was also recently the case for Huston What triggers this behaviour is unknown. And there doesn't seem to be any sort of pattern, except all affected topics use tags.

As you may know, the groups feature is an addon to our current forum software (IP.Board). So it's probably a bug that the developer isn't aware of.

To solve it, the tags must be completely removed by editing the initial post using the Full Editor. Once saved, the topic should be restored to its original forum.

Us moderators can only help if:

a) we're a member of the group, and...

b) a moderator of that forum section.

So if you don't have access to edit, the best way is to contact an Admin, who have full access to all sections, including groups.

P.S. I've reported petahhhhhh's thread.

When requesting 'next unread thread' in a forum and that forum has many pictures in it, the positioning is unreliable.  You usually wind up on the right page, in the wrong place.  Bit of a nuisance, but I suspect it is not an easy fix, and may not be doable at all since it seems impossible to be timely and predict where the cursor will land due to the uncertainty about image sizes.

Has this been addressed?  And if so, what were the results?
