Some "diamond" interchanges, with some FAR ramps and pieces thrown in to add some realistic aesthetics to a otherwise simple, functional interchange. Doesn't hurt to add some MMP's to cover up some ugly shadows as well! :no:RHW_Interchange_2.thumb.png.437d84e06145RHW_Interchange.thumb.png.e00e285af70605

4 highway intersection with 2 city highways merging into one suburb highway.
A connection between the 2 city highways is not needed in this spot, since there is one closer to downtown.
Looking forward to make it more compact tho ... later. :D

With the latest NAM 4 level interchanges are much much more simple to make and compact.

There's some real interesting stuff in here nowadays thanks to the new FlexFlys.

I made this this evening, just a quick, boring old Volleyball. Except the entire thing fits into a single Zoom 4 screenshot.

I could probably get it a little smaller, shave off a tile here or there, but I'm pretty happy as-is.

Excellent work there haljackey :).

Sadly that I can't play SimCity 4 better and stable because it keeps CRASHING on me (that was not fixed a very long time ago).

    Hey thanks everyone!

City89: for buildings, I use thousands of mods, so too many to specify here. See my list of where to find the best SC4 content: https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/66775-where-to-find-some-of-the-best-sc4-content/

Anyways I thought take some closeups as there's some interest in my most recent project. Traffic is also starting to navigate it now.

This is a Diverging Crossover Merging Interchange and in nutshell it's an exploded diverging diamond interchange.  It consumes a sizable amount of land but offers grade separated free flow controlled access for high volume intersections. I've wanted to see if this interchange could be built for quite some time.  Thanks to the NAM 33 pre-release I was finally able to build something functional.  Hope you all enjoy!

New region, new capital city, new highways (and this time, the Real ones)

But first, a general view: the terrain is the Attica Basin (Athens), but the city is not a replica. The coloured areas show the general zoning, but obviously the orthogonal grid will avoid the circular shape, which is only referential.

    atenas_zpshrhsuo1q.jpg

The first interchange is the simpler one: the First Radial Highway -a RHW 6S- becomes a 6C, allowing the central lanes to split vertically and connect with Industries Avenue, with minimum right-of-way usage. Efficient and nice, but dull.

    Centro-23%20Mar.%20021444629242_zpsomq0r

The second image is a very symmetrical cloverleaf interchange between the same radial highway (up to down) and Route 1, the main north-south highway. It uses RHW-2 for the clover leaves, minimizing unlevelled lanes (I don't know why, but I haven't seen much cloverleaves of this style).

    Centro-23%20Mar.%20021444629268_zps02di8

Now, the innovative part: thanks to the wonderful tools of the NAM 33, the interchange between the first radial (up to down again) and Route 3 (a westbound, 4 lane highway) capitalizes its sloped terrain. What is more, the RHW-4 extends after the interchange and splits to two MIS that crosses and becomes a sunken viaduct, ending in the city's West Bus Terminus.

Because it's considered fairly dangerous and slow; in real life that is. Many countries employ guidelines that require highways to have traffic directions seperated with a physical barrier at any place. I can definitely see cases where such regulations could have been lenient in interchange situations like yours, but the result would lack a central safety feature and thus the speed limits on those ramps would in all likelyhood be very rigid, creating  bottlenecks and the possible danger of traffic "tailbacking" on the through highways. That being said I hope this doesn't sound picky or anything, I can surely say SimCity is yours to form and the idea is obviously clever and aesthetically pleasing.

It sounds as a very reasonable motivation. Anyway, that specific interchange is only 1.5 km away from the city centre, so it will be slow anyway (and in RL, a very old interchange, and for that, a rather obsolete one). I think that would justify an otherwise dangerous design.

Oh yeah, especially old age really does. Been through many old interchanges myself that really showed their age, either because of their size or because of their percieved safety. Realism doesn't mean perfection, anyway. ;)

It would benefit a lot from 7.5m viaducts (instead of 15m ones) and more rounded pieces, including flexflies.

Here's a few new interchanges I made in a city tile I'm currently working on called Carlson. A month ago, I posted a parclo on I-20 which goes through the northern half of the city on the north side of the river. Today, I will post four more interchanges from that city tile.

First, this one is about a mile or so west of that parclo on I-20. This one is an A2 Parclo, whereas the other one was an A4 parclo.

    NW Carlson A2 Parclo

Next, here are the three interchanges on I-120 that serve the part of Carlson south of the river, from west to east. The first one is a B2 Parclo along a diagonal stretch of RHW:

    SW Carlson B2 Parclo

The next one further east is a folded diamond interchange serving the central part of Carlson. I will soon build an office park near the interchange.

    Central Carlson folded diamond interchange

Finally, this last one is a parclo/diamond hybrid in the southeast corner of Carlson and is the last interchange before I-120's eastern terminus in downtown Twin Forks. More details on I-120 and why it just ends on a surface street downtown can be found in my CJ when I update it (hopefully) later tonight.

    SE Carlson parclo/diamond hybrid

Hope you enjoyed all these interchanges!

Lost Realist, that is quite amazing how you've built that trumpet over water! I really like it!

And _B, I like how you used FARHW in that trumpet interchange! It looks a lot better like that.
