This happened as I was thinking of what the starting point of a major highway might look like.  I'm not sure if traffic will flow very well, but I do like the simple look. Start small and build up, right?

Bit of an odd design. Have you played around with the RHW?

Also I got a simple one here, but this was a deceptive pain to get working. Click the wrong thing and the highway would revert back to RHW and then having to practically start again took its toll.

Yes I am aware this is a camera photo of a screen but I was texting a friend pictures and it was so much easier this way :P

^^^ Thanks!

I always try to build my interchanges as small as possible when they are located in an urban area(see example below). Saying that I "build my interchanges as small as possible" probably sounds weird at first glace there's nothing small about that interchange, but you noticed exactly what I was going for/intended right off the bat. :thumb: While its quite long its relatively thin considering all the ramps, leaving quite a bit of space for development and other networks(rail & power) and local road connectivity is maintained.

hnUJebx.jpgMy first turbine interchange! It took 2 hours for me to make!

Looking good. My personal opinion is that overpasses are better than tunnels, and remember in the real world, 8 tunnels would be way more expensive than building overpasses. Nevertheless, looking good!

Some considerations:

* reinforced soil embankments are cheaper than conventional bridge structures

* bridge structures are cheaper than cut/cover tunnels

* proper tunnels (digging below the land without removing everything above) are the most expensive

One of the 3 biggest interchanges in my region, the 2km long Spaghetti Junction:

I like the fact you've worked it in between a body of water & a large hill. Fantastic job. How long did it take you? And do sims make use of all the routes?

The interchange in the picture below gave me quite some headaches (even now I'm finished I couldn't make a proper screenshot of the second part of the interchange :P ). Anyhow. I've built a highway below a large city. This highway should be connected to the highway you see from the bottom of the picture to the top. Due to the large depth of the new highway and my slope-mod (the tunnel is 30 meters deep because the city is on a hill) I couldn't connect it properly with a standard partial cloverleaf. The result is this large interchange. It could've been a bit better but I'm still very glad it works properly finally. :D

Thanks! I'd say I spent a few hours a day over the course of a week or two building it. But I'm a bit of a perfectionist so just when it looked done I'd think of something else and re-route a ramp here or add a lane there to make it look more appealing. It was aslo complicated by the fact its actually split in the middle between two cities - I merged the photo's together to make it seem as one but if you look closely enough you might notice a slightly different shade of grass and the two hydro towers back to back. Most routes are used except for the ramps leading to and from the highway veering off to the left in the photo - the one with 6 one lane ramps. I haven't built anything yet in the neighboring city in that direction so only one ramp is used for that highway by freight trucks leaving the city in the morning.

Here's an unedited photo, When I was building this thing I thought this would make for a great weekly challenge because of how close it was to the border;

Very nice. I've often thought of doing that as I advance in my ability. Right now I'm still learning what can & can't be done w/the NAM.

Thanks! Much credit also goes to this thread, which is a verifiable wealth of knowledge when it comes to interchange creation. It took me a long time to go through it all but its was definitely worth it. I wouldn't have been able to create an interchange quite as complicated if I didn't learned some tricks from the  examples previously shown.

Another thing that's crazy is trying to drive through that thing for the first time without GPS :boggle:

And to think I may have topped it with the next one...

Are the FLUPs actually functional in this case? You need to have the underground pieces to connect up the two FLUP portals in order for them to work, right? Or can you also use subways?

So this is my first interchange upload and only about the 5th one I have done in SC4 using the NAM. I have done some pretty basic cloverleafs, T-interchanges, and partial stacks but in building a brand new city, I decided to post up an interchange I developed.

I am not sure what you would necessarily characterize it as, but I like the name of a Elevated Double-T Cloverleaf which then leads into a Y-Interchange to the beaches in the West. (viewed from Northeast)

ibxjm8.jpg

The area directly around the interchange is the site for the downtown with a possible turnpike loop that will circle the downtown and connect the branches of the base 10s system with the branches of the Y-interchange and branches of the Double-T. Another area zoomed out showing the beaches and area of developments extent.

Any advice, tips, or comments would be great to hear! Thanks!

I've built a cloverleaf interchange for an industrial city. The changes were quite drastic. There were railway lines going through this area. I also had to demolish some buildings and a highway exit. Eventually I'm quite happy with the result.

Your right about the FLUP, which is exactly why it wouldn't be possible in that situation and connecting them to subways wouldn't work either AFAIK. I use the subway runaround instead, the underpass(s) technically functions as a subway station itself:

c78RBjw.png

Freight traffic is of course not possible, but that's actually desirable as I'm very strict about where I allow freight trucks to drive and they're most certainly not allowed to use my residential streets  And of course I'm careful not to connect them to real subways lines.

Any tips on getting the Flups to work? for some reason they fail me lol and occasionally they would be handy.

Make sure to connect both entrances with the other pieces.

I've been looking all over but can't seem to find it.  Exactly where are you guys getting the mod that allows the building of these custom interchanges?  I was thinking it was in the latest NAM but after installing it here are the only options I have when I click on the Highways tool.

It is the NAM, but in the installation, you might need to select custom, and install the Real Highway mod. The RHW is the mod that adds the custom interchanges.

Just a simple RH2 to RH2 partial interchange. Mostly just a reroute from an industrial area to the highway out of town to avoid some surface roads

    C:S break = SC4 throwback! Windmill interchange.

Looks so simple and practical! Great work!

On a city builder break myself... feel kinda burnt out. Need to regenerate the creative juices I guess ;)

The north-to-east overbridge slip road is longer than necessary, I would redesign it following the red route I have marked. There is also opportunity to construct the missing west-to-north MIS.

In any case I like what you've done with the scenery and setting, can't wait to see more!

Took a stuttering start but I'm back to life, wielding the NAM like a mighty pen... oh I've still got a month of exams left ;)
