SPUI interchanges a challenge to get right, but it's a rewarding process when you get to the landscaping!

Even with NAM 31.1, the stability was not there to accomplish this interchange.  It was only made possible thanks to some strategic placing and bulldozing of on-ramps in order to get a diagonal starter piece.

Hello, i've been lurking here for quite a long time and i think i've made something that nobody has ever made before in SC4 (probably because its pretty useless at the moment). It's called an echelon interchange and appereantly there's only one of them in the world and its in florida somewhere. The idea of it is to "split" an intersection between 2 arterial roads into two one way road intersections, giving all traffic 50 % "green light time". I got the idea of this traffic engineers web site (theres a few other interesting interchanges on there too) http://attap.umd.edu/uaid_gss.php?

heres a picture of it if you dont want to click the link, and my sc4 recreation attempt. It took quite a few tries because the road directions were very confusing.

Has anyone got any ideas how to make this actually useful in a city? nobody uses 2 OWR-4's side by side to form an avenue since a TLA-7

looks better, has got the same capacity (as far as i know), and uses one tile less.

It almost fits in a 4x4 tile space, exept in the corner where i plopped the park. it uses one or two tiles extra there.

EDIT: appereantly the road directions confused me more than i thought, because i had forgotten a left turn. i changed the picture to a correct one.

This is my first interchange using the RHW.  It is the second iteration of it though.  My first attempt was extremely unwieldy.  I could not build any on or off ramps because of the way it was constructed.  I found I had to leave a bunch of space in between the major arteries if I wanted to be able to have any flexibility at all.  I use 3 to 4 tiles in between optimally, 4 if I want to be able to put L0 to L2 ramps for roads/avenues crossing the highway.

I initially tried to copy exactly the North/South 75 and 71 interchange that cradles the Greater Cincinnati Metro area.  Sadly, due to the limitations of the game mechanics and the NAM(no fault, no blame guys, you all do great work) I was unable to achieve replica status, so I opted for inspiration instead.  Yes, I drew inspiration from the 75/71 interchange cradling the Greater Cincinnati Metro Downtown area, and am pleased with the result.  I was so pleased in fact, about half way through, when I was working on the 71 east/west corridor I could help but giggle a little at what I had made here.  It was a ton of fun, and so easy to do with the new NAM 31.1.

I want to apologize for the picture, I initially tried to take several pictures and splice them together, the finished picture was 18MB and Imageshack would not allow me to upload it. I had to upload it to MEGA, so you will have to use this link:  https://mega.co.nz/#!eIcn2ZBS!dmDo7S0dxtJh_6X4ChlzNRQ0kswQ3J2fInZhCAj7vIk  (God, I hope it is okay to post that link here) if you want to see it in it's entirety with great detail the whole thing at once in zoom (3 I think).  You might have to download it, I think that is how MEGA works.  Edit:  Yes you have to download it to see it, sorry folks, it is safe though, it is a .jpg made with the editing software gimp 2.8.  I downloaded my own file and everything appears to be great.  I will likely start using this MEGA site more often.  I have no idea why my government wants sites like these to be shut down, I guess they are afraid what will happen when all information becomes free to everyone all the time.

For now if you do not wish to see the whole thing up close and personal, you can see this picture that Imageshack DID allow:  (click for full size)

simcity4201304180844400.jpg

I hope you enjoy it, I know I enjoyed the heck out of building it.

Also as this is my first interchange ever, I am VERY open to suggestions.  I know we got a lot of very good highway builders here and I want to hear from you, really I do.  As with any building project in SimCity 4, I am never 100% satisfied with anything I build.  So toss me a line I am all ears.  I wasn't able to build this thing is it was not for you all in the first place.

Yes, the way I build my cities and regions, I need a freeway system that is compact and can fit into tight spaces.

Nothing wrong with Maxis highways, some people prefer them for the nostalgia factor, among other reasons. However FreewayofFlight, the latest NAM has a Maxis Highway override.

I have no beef with Maxis highways, especially when they're built well. With such a constricting network, it's hard to pull off, but FreewayofFlight was able to do it! :D

Thanks Haljackey! I understand that most of the Sim-world is all over the RHW, but I still find value in Maxis Highways.

    Another junction I'm fond of.

I have a great deal of respect for RHW, many beautiful interchanges have been showcased, but for me, MHW is my preferred choice.

You know what gets a bad rep? Australia Touhou 1-5 and 13. No, wait, here, anything that isn't generic boring realism gets a bad rep.

Interchange between Ebony River Drive and Tranwell Link (city of New Concorde):

    Before

    After

Yes, I know it's bigger now and has fewer through lanes, but I really didn't like the old one; after NAM v31 came out, I bulldozed the whole thing with the intention of making a 3-level T-stack, but naturally, that didn't work out.  I finally completed the rebuilding project today.

Here is my first full RHW exchange built with NAM 31.1:

It has a very organic structure because I wanted to experiment with various new additions to the RHW.

The Pearson interchange must have been very difficult to reconstruct, especially with those collectors. I'm impressed! Do you think you'd be able to re-create this interchange?

    Already did that one ;)

Wow, that's amazing! I didn't think anyone else had done it yet! I'm guessing you live in the Golden Horseshoe then huh? What about this interchange?

Okay, so that's not a RHW tunnel, I can see the transition. Looks like a OWR tunnel using the wrong texture...
