Well, here's something new I have to show off. What I just recreated is probably the most complex interchange in Fresno, and soon it will get even more complex with the braided ramps project to connect this to Hwy. 41(My recreation contains the project, which will be completed this fall). I will redo this after RHW 6.0 is Released, paticulary to fix the tunnel I had to put in, as well as more smooth curve and the multi-height system will really spice this up.

Google maps image of the interchange here.

    What's RHW Version 6.0?

I think he's referring to the next NAM/RHW release. Might be better to consider it RHW 5.1, or since it has to do with Project 57 maybe call it RHW 5.7 or 5.57.

Is there even going to be another RHW release? I thought all the NAM sub-mods were being integrated into the base package.

Those Cities XL interchange are pretty awesome; makes me wish I could play that game. Hopefully one day SC2013 will be able to look like that with mods, although I suppose that image would be the entire city tile or more than the whole thing with the new map sizes.

Here's an interchange that I really like, or rather half of it because it's divided by the city border. I'm not sure if it will get used on the other half; I just made the through route into a subway tunnel and put a bunch of MIS neighbor connector and invisible loop connector pieces. I first made a curved 3-level roundabout, but it turned out to be way too huge and I wasn't satisfied with that result, so I started over and this is what I got.

Interchange between the Cross-Island Skyway (T1) and the Central Concorde Expressway (T2):

    127126496-4.jpg

    127126510-4.jpg

And who says large interchanges have to be a waste of space? ;)

Hybrid partial cloverleaf on the Central Concorde Expressway:

    127126432-4.jpg

    127126513-4.jpg

Kind of makes me mad, though, that I was able to have huge amounts of traffic showing up at rush hour around this interchange earlier, and now it doesn't seem to be showing nearly as many automata.

Also, here is a sort of mosaic I made because I wanted to show all the ramps on this whirlpool interchange on the CCE as well as the T interchange on Ebony River Drive (left of image) where T3 passes under it and becomes the Tranwell Link at the beginning of the causeway.

I often say things like that for the same reason I asked what a puzzle piece is: Teasing.

For the record, there will be no RHW Version 6 or 7 or 8. Just NAM 31, 32, 33, and so on.

Moonraker-- thanks for the kinds words... they are appreciated.

I'm sure there are loads of modders out there itching to retool this sim city travesty... I've waited 10 years for this, a few more won't hurt. In the meantime CitiesXL does seem to fill that void..megascreen0002.jpg

Moonraker with your permission... I'd like to recreate your highway interchange mosai with CitiesXL2012. Just to show you an alternative. Usually folks here are very protective of Sim City and rightly so, to a certain extent..

I am not a clever civil engineer. These will definitely need to be worked on in the future. Suggestions would be appreciated.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I see something that I always didn't like about CitiesXL: the overpasses are enormous! Look at just how tall the supports are! They just look like skyscrapers. The slopes seem awfully steep too...

Yes, I've tried the RHM in CitiesXL too, and to be honest, it's harder than it's SimCity 4 counterpart. At least it takes a whole lot longer to build an interchange (diamond interchange. SC4: 2 minutes, CXL: 20 minutes), mainly because of how bridges are constructed (which is a real pain) and how the puzzle pieces are set up.

Now, if you really want to make neat looking interchanges, try the demo of CityScape. Much better graphics and much better scale. Below in the spoiler are some pictures:

Query: how long did it take you to build those interchanges Maarten? And are those networks out of the box with CityScape?

Oh and Astronelson, I would also suggest a trumpet interchange. It takes up a similar amount of space so a huge amount of rework is not required. Have a look the RHW Interchange Guide (link in my signature) for pointers.

As for all the SC13, CXL and CS content on this thread, I think its fine as long as SC4 is the focus. This is the 'SimCity 4 Players Forum' you know :P

Mandelsoft . thanks for your input .. There is one great thing about the support columns in CitiesXL 2012 with pitty's RHW .. with the shift key and the mouse,. you can make them just about any non ridiculous height that you want... Here in California some flyover stack interchanges are 5 levels tall. CitiesXL2012 has a lot of potential.. I hope that the new Sim City turns out to be a success... (from what I've read and what i've seen I think it very unlikely.) I loved Sim City 4, I'm sure from time to time I play it for nostalgia sake...I have the Citiescape Demo.. I don't have the patience or the intelligence to make anything with that program... and besides.. you can't save anything with the demo...

You can build them in like a few minutes up to hours, depending on how precise you want to build them. The networks are not completely standard, but they can easily be modified with the in-game road style editor. But this is professional software, and I only have the demo (like most people who have got the program). You can save things with the demo. The pics are taken with Print-screen in Traffic mode, setting all labels to off.

Well, I tried, but even at the lowest level it's still like 10-15m high, which is no better than the current scaling of the NAM overpasses. However, SimCity 4 tends to squash height by a third, so it's less obvious. We are also revising that issue by putting another height level in-between.

Besides that, the bridges in CXL have some kind of massiveness, and it's particulary the standard bridges that suffer from this (it seems that Pitty did his best effort to minimize this)...

This demonstrates what's possible with the current RHW version as far as collector/distributor setups go. If I can create junctions like this in the current version, just wait until I get my hands on the Multi-Height System...

Patiricius Maximus - I sincerely hope that I'm wrong.. because I would like to start using Sim City 4 again, but I highly doubt that the upcoming NAM will be able to do flyover multi-stacks like CitiesXL2012 does with ease...

This picture alone demonstrates the power of the Multi-Height System. I can't speak for Cities XL, but I agree with MandelSoft on the issue. I'm sure we will see plenty of new interchanges next month.

Paticius Maximus - Mandelsoft So sorry that I stepped on y'alls toes... I've been told I've got a big mouth and tend to carry on.. I admit it.. I type what I feel... I'm OK with that... Furthermore... I love the basic interchanges that Sim City 4 NAM can do .. . They're absolutely perfect for rural areas... I for one have been waiting for the multi height system since NAM for came out... It will be wonderful if its capable. If I get disappointed.. I'm not going to pretend that there is no alternative to Sim City 4; I play CitiesXL2012 and sometimes play SC4, not as much as I used to because I'm waiting for the new NAM. I really don't play favorites about these two games...each one of them has several advantages that the other is lacking and I DO love them both... with that said... I think I'll go and "troll" to some warmer climates...

I'm okay with that too. I just think you were underestimating what NAM 31 will be able to do. I myself believe Simcity 4 is the champion of the genre, but just to be clear I have no problem with anyone preferring Cites XL over Simcity 4 (though I'd think that a rabid CXL fan would tend to stay in the CXL forums...). In any case, we don't have long to wait to see what the new NAM will be able to do. There are only 26 days left until March 1.

Great work You've made here mate!

This kind of interchanges buit-in neatly into a living city inspires me to work more on my region :)

Thanks and keep up good work!

Being in the Dev. Beta, I've been spending a lot of my free time playing SimCity (2013)...

It only reinforces my appreciation for this thread as you can't build interchanges in SC13. Makes me miss not just the RHW but even the MHW as well. It shows that SC4 is truly a classic.

Great work guys, keep it up!
