That CBD model is just ridiculous, it boggles the mind how much time and effort it takes to recreate the all those buildings to photo-realistic quality.

Toronto-Dominion Centre

So, I've begun work on the little details as all the major modelling is now complete. I've been playing around with the roof textures to try get something workable and it looks like I have to expand my texture library by hunting the internet for roaming textures.

I added the TDC to Toronto's financial core just to see what they looked like.

 

Probably sometime this week I still start the night lights. When finished, this will be the biggest addition to the Toronto skyline in SimCity 4.

 

On January 8th, I messaged .Soapy to request the models he has. He (or she?) has already confirmed that they will send me the models for those buildings to help complete the Toronto skyline. So, likely after TDC is finished, I will resume the work on .Soapy's BATs once the files are sent over.

Please be advised that the holidays are over and work is starting to become extremely busy, again. For those of you who don't know, I am self-employed through property investment and management. It's become a family business and it's why I moved to LA in 2017.

So, when I need a break from it all, I sit down and BAT. It's sort of therapeutic, actually. In the hour of time that I get, I can usually accomplish a lot. The Royal Bank Plaza was maybe 3-4 hours of work over 3-4 days at an hour each day.

If I did this full time for a living, you might have the whole financial core to download already! Lol!

Anyway, I will keep the updates coming as I go along.

Yes, I started it way back. I haven't gotten around to it yet. Maybe sometime in the summer or fall I shall be able to get around to it.

 

TORONTO-DOMINION CENTRE

Still doing a lot of small modelling and I've decided to hop into the nightlights. I'll just merge the small props scene and the main scenes together. So far, I am being very conservative with the night lights on this as there is nothing impressive at night about these buildings.

I will brighten them up once I get the right colour going for it.

 

Also, I've managed to find a copy of this 3dsmax file... ON MY OLD ANDROID PHONE! It was also my intention to release this little nugget as a separate building. 

Personally, I play SimCity 4 (every now and then) in a progressive mode of play. I start off with wild lands, convert it to farmland, convert it into a rural town, upscale it to a growing town, grow it into a city, add the whole road eras, add Chicago-New York tileset mid-rises and progress into a modernized city with highways.

It takes me forever to do a tile in SimCity 4, but that's my mode of game play. I think that method of game play is more realistic when you take into considerations that buildings of a few stories or taller are never demolished. So, when you have to build roads and infrastructure or new towers, it's a challenge as if you're a real city planner.

So, my intention with Bay Adelaide Centre West (BACW) was just to follow the real-life scenario of the real buildings: Just build on top of the new!

No timeline on when this will be released as it still needs some work. But it's good to know it's not gone forever and will likely be released sometime this year. I've lost all of the previous textures. So, the ones you see are just temporary.

PS; The suburban houses and apartments should be complete by the end of this month. They just need to be rendered as the night lights have been complete. I am super busy lately as I am back in LA to start a new company. I feel like it will take up a lot of my time, but I will make time for BATting whenever I need a break, want to sit in a cafe on a Sunday morning and relax or something.

PS2; This will likely become the next major project after the suburban housing and TDC. Grand Wilshire Centre is on hold until further notice:

As per the Four Seasons Hotel, I will be releasing those towers separately sometime in the future. Brookfield Place is being built in separate towers/buildings and will be combined later similar to the Toronto-Dominion Centre.

I don't know when exactly, but there will likely be a flood of towers coming into Simtropolis was Toronto-Dominion Centre, Brookfield Place and Royal Bank Plaza towers are separated into their own releases.

For now, here's some minor progress while the TDC night lights finish. This fits purposely snug into a 4x4:

I am just wondering will you be doing things the Royal Ontario Museum with the Addtion (Michael Lee Chin Crystal), the Art Gallery of Ontario (with the Original Building +the Frank Gehry Addition), and OCADU, as well eventually moving  up to Yonge-Bloor area.

Thank you! I appreciate that. I will be moving away from the Financial Area once it's complete. No timeline as to when, but one day! I spend more time modelling the buildings than actually playing SimCity 4. Sometimes modelling is more entertaining than the game itself.

As previously mentioned, I will not be using real logos from companies in my models anymore. Therefore, instead of "TD" at the top of the spire, it says, "KD."

Also, I'd like to make this available to the public somehow. It's 2 GB! Any idea on how I can upload this and where?

Right now, this model is helping me tremendously with re-creating Toronto BATs. The renders are at 0 degrees to match the real-life orientation of the city. However, I am matching Drunk Apple's Toronto map and rotating 16.8 degrees clockwise to get a mostly 90 degree angle.

If for whatever reason in the future I stop BATting, at least someone can use this accurately-scaled model to create future Toronto buildings. Anyone have an idea where this might be a great asset?

Several months ago I started to model the old downtown from my city as well and I was already tired after doing like 5 blocks ... and then I see this. You're doing great!

Looks great! I'm glad you're adding a placeholder logo for this particular BAT. The previous update before you added it was just missing something, the logo really is a part of this building. Only critique would be to make the spire just a little stubbier? It's probably the correct height as you are very detailed, just with this birds-eye orientation it makes it look taller than how we're used to seeing it.. which is from the ground.. if that makes any sense. Cheers, love it!

Hey guys,

Sorry for the time away. I was in the midst of moving all my belongings from Canada to Los Angeles over 3 flights. I am back now.

However, my laptop had some troubles and didn't turn on for two weeks. Right before I was going to bring it in, it turned on.

But now 3dsmax 2012 starts but doesn't open. I've tried running it as an Adminstrator but nothing worked. I reset my computer to factory settings while still keeping my personal files and that didn't work either. I re-installed it and that didn't work. Anyone have any insight to this?

 

PS; This is now the view from my front door. Looks like I can probably even sketch the Grand Wilshire Centre from the kitchen window and I'm sure some ST creep will find out where I live because of this Snapchat photo. Lol!

The Wilshire Grand is all yours! I am recreating downtown LA right at this moment and can probably figure out where you are living. My recreation involves painstaking block-by-block work so I have certainly learnt the layout of the area well.

Anyone figure out why 3dsmax 2012 stopped working on Windows 10 after an update? I don't know which update to rollback to get it working, again. I haven't been able to BAT because 3dsmax 2012 has the splash start screen but never loads up!

Creators Update Issues:

Some 3ds Max customers report their software doesn't open after installing Windows 10 Creators Updates. When trying to uninstall the Autodesk products using the Autodesk Uninstall Tool, the following error message appears: "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVC110.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." However the file does exist in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Below are several possible work-arounds:

1. Roll back to an earlier build of Windows 10.
2. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. 
3. Perform a Clean Uninstall and then reinstall the software.

BAT4MAX works on it?

I tried rolling back all the updates and got errors. I tried running 3dsmax 2012 in compatible mode, I reset the installation, I reset my entire computer and I think I pretty much tried every suggestion except for rolling from Windows 10 to Windows 7 fully. Not sure if I want to do that. Still no luck.

But if 2017 works, I could try that!
