Victoria Louise Class

5 ships built in total – SMS Victoria Louise – Hertha – Freya – Vineta – Hansa

Commissioned between 1898 and 1899 – 5,660 tons – 110m (362 ft) in length – speed 19.5 knots – range 3,412 nautical miles – crew 31 officers, 446 enlisted men – 2x21cm (8.3 inch) guns – 8x 15cm (5.9 inch) guns – 10x 8.8cm (3.5 inch) guns – 3x 45cm (17.7 inch) submerged torpedo tubes – deck armour  4cm (1.5 inches) – turret armour 10cm (4 inches) – casemates 10cm (4 inches) -- protective armoured deck 10cm (3.9 inches)

The Victoria Louise Class of five ships were “Protected Cruisers” – the first, and last -- protected cruisers built for the Kaiserliche Marine. Prior to their construction, all cruisers in the Imperial German Navy were unprotected – no armour protection and only half-inch steel hull plates. These ships were the transition from steam-powered cruisers with sailing rig, to the modern cruisers already found in foreign navies. Short-lived, they served in home waters as well as on foreign duty stations – most notably with the German East Asiatic Squadron based in Tsingtau, China. Their construction and service provided the knowledge and experience to modernize the cruisers of the growing Imperial German Navy. They were the forerunner of the larger and more powerful armoured cruisers. For full details of their construction and operational history – see “IMPERIAL DOCKYARDS CUXHAVEN: Chapter 02 – Protected Cruisers – A Brief Experiment”.

How to use

This pack contains .SC4model-files and props as .SC4desc-files. So, by installing this pack nothing will directly appear in your game. You can use the props on your own lots or convert the SC4models into buildings, as you please. Since most props are to be used on water lots and props naturally align with the surface level, they will sink to the sea floor, if you do not stick to the guidelines on how to use props on water lots. Finally you will need to follow the instructions on how to make a lot transparent.

You will find the props in any Lot-Editor under the prefix A_1P_h_

As per request from the community, I have also included a version of the ship without historic flags and crew.

Please visit @Dreadnought's CJ to get detailed descriptions and the historical backgrounds to these prop packs. You will see a wonderful display of the results of our long collaboration there and can get a preview of what might be hidden in the coming prop packs or simply get some inspiration for your own harbour!

The Victoria Louise Class cruisers were "classic" examples of "turn-of-the-Century" warships.  They were handsome little ships and unique in many ways.  @AP has captured every detail and rendered them faithfully.  Though less modern than other models, they are well crafted and one of my personal favorites.  They could have been found lying at anchor off almost any port in the world.  They might even be a nice touch anchored off your waterfront -- they made quite a tourist attraction in their day.
