About This File

In 1915, M.B. Skaggs, an ambitious young man in the small Idaho town of American Falls, purchased a grocery store from his father. M.B.'s business strategy, to give his customers value and to expand by keeping a narrow profit margin, proved spectacularly successful. By 1926 he was operating 428 Skaggs stores in 10 states. M.B. almost doubled the size of his business that year when he merged his company with 322 Safeway (formerly Selig) stores. Two years later MB listed Safeway on the New York Stock Exchange. MB did not let the difficulties of the Great Depression dilute his pioneering focus on value for customers. In the 1930's Safeway introduced produce pricing by the pound, open dating on perishables to assure freshness, nutritional labeling, even some of the first parking lots.

Today M.B.Skagg's value vision still drives Safeway, though on a dramatically larger scale. There are approximately 1,820 Safeway stores across the US and Canada. These include 325 Vons stores in Southern California and Nevada, 113 Dominick's stores in the Chicago metropolitan area, 137 Randalls and Tom Thumb stores in Texas, 38 Genuardi's stores in the Philadelphia area, as well as 17 Carrs stores in Alaska.

Nice but the front windows ain't clear. It's against Sim law the police must be able to see inside the store in case of a robbery.

Looks like a few old-style Pic 'n' Save (now Big Lots!) that I remember seeing growing up in So. Cal. Nice Work!

This looks nothing like the Safeways near me! (Yes, we do have them in Canada) but it looks good anyways. Our Safeways have more of a European stylr, like arches and big holes in cement things that stick up, nd neon lights and stuff... But this one is nice!

We don't have safeways around here that i know of, but this is a really good job. I will be putting this in my city because my sims don't have many places to buy groceries. Hungry sims aren't happy sims.

I'd say this looks most like a store from about 1955-1965. Anyway, the vintage feel adds a very comfortable atmosphere to it... I can easily imagine walking in over a well-worn doormat, into a golden-hued interior with '60s style lettering for "PRODUCE," and so on.

Lovely. This is now my favourite Sim City shopping facility. Good choice, too - this is, I think, the first smaller supermarket-type BAT. Is it my screen, or does the roof tend to turquois?

Great! Another fantastic BAT from SimGoober! My suburban sims really love the great stuff you're producing. I can't wait for the 7-11s. Have you thought about making separate components for strip malls? I'd love some gas stations too.

I like this lot. If I had to criticize it I would say that there are no lines in the parking lot so people wouldn't know where to walk. 9
