About This File

This upload is a combination of Caribiou's original Long Slope Transitions, that were released originally on his website almost two decades ago and the former Heretic-Caribou GLR Ramp Transition Relot set, that was released both on the former SC4Devotion LEX and on the STEX. Since the demise of Caribou's original site, his contents were restored on STEX as part of early community wide restoration efforts and later they were brought under the STEX Custodian umbrella.
These original Caribou Long Slope Transitions (released in 2007) were re-hosted as they were originally released (restored in 2018 on STEX), but it's time to give them some well needed technical update. Since the former Heretic-Caribou GLR Ramp Transition relots (released in 2018) also required some technical update and they needed to be brought up to current NAM/MTA standards, for better accessibility the decision was made, that the two uploads would be compiled into ONE upload. Please see the ChangeLog below for further details on this update. Also for the detailed stats, please read the readme in the ~Documents folder.

This compilation contains the following:

  • Caribiou's three original models and lot files
  • the five lots, the props and the custom paths for El-Rail that were coming with the Heretic-Caribou GLR Ramp Transition Relot set
  • an additional brand new lot to complement the set
  • revised and extended custom network paths for both El-Rail and Rail to cover the ramps.

Installation

Exctract or COPY the Tyberius06 parent folder from the *.zip into your plugin folder. You don't need to keep the "~Documents" folder in your Plugins, best if you remove it somewhere safe outside of your plugins.

To uninstall: bulldoze any instance of this lot in your city, then remove the file(s) from your Plugins.

To avoid conflicts, please, it is highly recommended to use any of the third party cleanitol tools and remove any previous versions of the files from your plugins.
In the ~Documents folder in the main ZIP in the Prop-Texture Catalogue Index and Cleanitol/ folder you will find the Cleanitol_Caribou-Tyb06 Long Slope Transitions.txt and by using either the newer nos.17's SC4 Cleanitol or the older BSC Cleanitol tool you can search and remove the old and outdated versions of these files. Again to avoid possible conflicts and glitches it is highly recommended to run either of these tools.

Dependencies

  • Caribou_LongSlopeTransition_Props.dat - INCLUDED (it should be in the Tyberius06/Props folder)
  • Tyb06-Caribou_LST_Custom_Rail_and_ElRail_Paths__RHD.dat - INCLUDED (it should be in the Tyberius06/_Resources folder)**

** you will find the zTyb06-Caribou_LST_Custom_Rail_and_ElRail_Paths__LHD.dat in the ~Documents/Optional LHD Paths folder  - you only need this IF your game install/set-up is LHD (UK, Australia, Japan). If you want to use the LHD paths, copy/move this file into the Tyberius06/_Resources folder and better if you also remove the __RHD paths from the same folder.

  • Submenu DLL - OPTIONAL
  • Network Addon Mod - necessary for the GLR, U-Rail and U-GLR (Underground Tram) compatibility

Credits

The models and the original Lots were created by Caribou, all credit goes for him for that!

The additional lots, the updated modding, the custom network paths, props and expanded functionality of all the lots have been made by Tyberius06.

Special gratitude goes for the following people:

Simmer2 (SM2) - providing the uploads during their restoration on STEX

Pikachu_SQ and others - continuous efforts for preserving these contents for the community.

This version is identical with the upload on the SC4Evermore: Tyb06-Caribou Long Slope Transitions

Quote

Original description:

It has come to my attention that Caribou's website went down back in 2016 and after scouring the internet there is no trace of any of his work.

Since I have his work stored in a secure offline vault, I feel that in the spirit of preservation, his work should be available to the public once again.

These lots and models were made by Caribou and are provided AS IS, nothing in the Zips has been changed by me.

Since he never provided any pictures I took it upon myself to plop all the lots in game for the purpose of taking snapshots in order for everyone to peruse them before downloading.

Anyone in the future who would like to create new lots from these models can now use these uploads as a dependency.

There are 3 lots in this zip

1) caribou long slope

1) caribou long slope 2

1) caribou long slope 3

Many Thanks go to Tyberius06 for bringing this matter to my attention.

Kind regards

Simmer2

What's New 3.0   View Changelog

Released

Please note, the following changes were made for this upload:

  • introduction of the Caribou_LongSlopeTransition_Props.dat file, which is replacing the three separate ramp models and also containing the prop files from the former Heretic-Caribou Special GLR Rail Transitions resources.dat file.
  • all the lots from both sets have been updated to current NAM/MTA standards
  • the modding of the three original ramp have been updated; custom network paths were added and with that extended functionality were provided. While the L2-L0 ElRail-to-Heavy Rail ramp has got new custom network paths, however this functionality is restricted due to the nature of this type of ramp. This is considered a "cheater transition" lot, which allows El-Rail to transfer passengers to regular passenger trains, which was not an intended behaviour by the game's developers.
  • The L0-SUBway and L2-SUBway lots got network paths and they are transitioning between passenger rail and subway and as part of the extended functionality they can be connected to the U-Rail puzzle pieces. If they were connected to the U-Rail puzzle pieces, both passenger and freight train can pass through on the lot and this way these lots are fully UDI enabled.

@monkeywater

Yes, use the shorter model shown. Plop 2 of them opposite each other and connect the subway line between them.

But only passenger trains will pass not freight.

Thanks!  But I'm hoping for a relotted version allowing formal underground rail, freight and all. The current NAM underground rail transition looks rather primitive compared to these.

@monkeywater Unfortunately due to to game limitations, freight trains going underground will never work. Something to do with they way the game engine was designed. No one is allowed to mess with the exe file.

Simmer2

Underground rail capable of carrying freight already exists in the game...

@monkeywater This is one of those cases where that famous phrase applies..."pics or it didn't happen"

So if its true what you say then I suggest you open your game and take a snapshot with the network arrows showing.

To make it easy on you I can tell you that the arrow path for freight is dark blue in color. Rail-->subway-->Rail does not allow freight, period.

Earlier this evening commented they where at SimCity.CN, yet discover there´r aswell rightfully accapted by Simtropolis. Cautiously speaking about the policy of ownership and downloadability, Mentioned the chinese language site registration and use barier aswell might be considerd a hazard to obtain them. Thanks to the Simtropolis members who make these available from community who had hardly yet any easy way to obtain those !

That's right!
I think he is talking about U-Rail and/or FLUPs... I managed to U-drive freight train under CAN-AM canal FLUPS with MGB's and UKI's rail ramps too. I don't know, I mean I don't remember if that means that freight trains can pass through in regular use. I know that freight trucks can't pass trough underpass ramps which have an option the lead the cars into a subway (like buddybuds famous flup/subway compatible underpasses) even if you use as a flup underpass. UKI rail ramps only flup and U-Rail compatible. Kazuki's GHRS tunnel is in the NAM as an U-Rail entrance/exit.

I'm not sure if these transitions/models can be lotted as a flup compatible transition. At this moment in their original form they are working as transit stations with a 20000 passanger capacity. So f.e. with the EL-Rail-GLR transition that means the El-rail is arriving the transition than the passangers change to the GLR... I'm actually thinking about if that station function can be swiched off without loosing the transition functionality.... Maybe as an overhanging lot? I'm not sure....

Here you go.  Freight going under pedmall using the NAM underground rail puzzle pieces.

And another using a different style of slope for taking rail to underground rail, my initial comment was aimed at a long slope version of this transition.

Freight goes under all sorts of stuff

@monkeywater Now try to connect 2 ramps with the subway and then see what happens, in this case what will not happen.

What you have is a FLUP network setup...not the same as a subway setup between 2 ramps as you have indicated on your first post.

Freight flow is possible with a FLUP but not with the subway connections you get from these ramps.

You can, of course, create your own FLUP lots with these ramps.

Case closed

Of course not, my initial request was to use these long slope models to do the rail<->underground rail transition I mentioned above. Without a conversion to subway.  Just a long slope version of what is in my 2nd and 3rd images above. Sorry that you misunderstood.

I wish you would have mentioned FLUP's in your first request, It would have avoided 6 replies.....

You are more than welcome to create FLUP's with these ramps and then release them on the STEX by using this upload as a dependency.

Lots of people would insta-download them :)

Good luck

Nick

Making such ramps into a U-Rail transition most likely would require it to be a puzzle piece in the NAM. The only other potential method would involve making it a transit station, since modding wise, you can't otherwise connect each end to rail.

Bear in mind, (I believe Simmer2 has covered this already), neither Subway nor El-Rail networks support Freight rail, so some of these pieces wouldn't be suitable. The regular ground to subway ramps could be converted in theory, but there is a problem.

Puzzle Pieces require code in the NAM to work and since the models can't be distributed with NAM, the old option is to make them into stations, which isn't the best method but would work.

Again the only way to do this is to make them proper network pieces, i.e. include them in the NAM. Otherwise to work on any sort of lot, there must be TEing and when you do that, the game sees it as a station, it can't be avoided.
