A DLL plugin for SimCity 4 that

  • enables submenu functionality: This DLL is a dependency for other submenu-compatible plugins.
  • adds more than 50 standard submenus such as Plazas, Green Spaces, Sports and many more.
  • fixes the game's menu rendering issues caused by duplicate or missing menu icons.
  • (Exemplar Patching functionality has been removed in version 2.0.0 of the Submenus DLL. This is now implemented in the Resource Loading Hooks DLL, so Exemplar Patching doesn't depend on the Submenus DLL anymore. Make sure to upgrade to version 2.0.1 or later of the Resource Loading Hooks DLL.)

System requirements

  • SimCity 4, version 1.1.641 (the digital release) (more info)
  • Windows 7+ or Linux

Dependencies

Installation

  • Copy the DLLs into the top-level directory of either Plugins folder (place it directly in <Documents>\SimCity 4\Plugins or <SC4 install folder>\Plugins, not in a subfolder).
  • Copy the file submenu-essentials.dat and optionally the individual submenu files anywhere into your Plugins folder. You may skip installing an optional submenu if it contains neither Flora nor any sub-submenus. In that case, the buildings of that submenu will appear in the default top-level menu instead.

Alternatively, the mod can be installed with Sc4pac: memo:submenus-dll

  • The DLL dynamically creates new submenus by checking for some new exemplar properties, for example in the building exemplars of ploppable lots. This allows anyone to create additional submenus for their lot sets. The modding details are described in the Readme file.

Really? This is finally possible? Thank you very much, this will be a big relief with my astronomically big Plugins folder. I've almost given up playing SC4 because of this endless scrolling through huge menus. You guys (you and Null 45) have done a really good job lately with your DLL files, further pushing the limits of what's possible in SC4.

Thank You, I was having issues with the game freezing after adding some moods when using the scroll landmark menus.

This fixed that problem!  Very Helpful !

Excellent mod, I like it a lot, but by any chance, is there a way to add the growable buildings to the menu, would it be possible?

This is awesome. I am adding submenus in the landmarks for my gas stations, hotels and restaurants.

I like how it stays on the submenu while you plop building from that category. I am not an expert but this was easy to set up by looking at your example with the parks.

Wow... just wow!

The potential of this DLL is staggering to contemplate, but sub menus, including nested submenu... organisation will never be same (as bad) again.

I never thought I'd see the day this was possible, thanks so much for your work on this. No more scrolling through huge lists of items without the drawbacks of MML or DAMN, truly revolutionary.

I can also confirm it works fine under Win7 too.

This is absolutely amazing and will be a true shift for mod organization moving forward. The potential quality of life improvements to the game that will result from this mod are wonderful to think about. It will take time before many mods are made compatible with this DLL. However I'm sure it will happen eventually, especially for the big projects.

This is wonderful so far, and I'm absolutely loving the fact that we can even have submenus in submenus, such as with the community gardens under the greenspace parks.

I started late playing SC4, I was astonished about the community plugins increasing the fun and improving the game play, but what's nowadays possible is sheer amazing. Submenu is an essential part of that developement as well as all the SC4 community members which are contributing daily and keep the excitement about SC4 and increasing the fun of playing the game. Thanks a lot, I have never thought of that at the beginning.
