About This File

Maxisland 2.0 aka Santa Bella

Ever wanted to play the Maxisland region but found it too small or too lumpy for your terrain mod? Ever wish that the city tiles had been optimized for bridge building? Presenting Maxisland 2.0. This expanded version of the original map fixes many of the problems with the original Maxisland. Several passes through SC4Terraformer's height compressor have leveled out the plains to where even the strictest of slope mods won't complain. The city tiles have been optimized for bridge building, and the region is now 32x32 instead of a cramped 16x16. The terrain has also been run through a couple of erosion cycles to add some realism.

I want to make clear that this is not a very original map. This is simply an altered version of Maxisland. I am releasing this based on feedback from readers of my City Journal. Feel free to make further modifications as you see fit. All credit for this map goes to Maxis and the SC4Terraformer.

Enjoy.

I've always wanted to play around with the Maxisland region, but thought the exact same thing, the city borders don't align well. I'm downloading right now and I'm going to play this tonight. Thanks!

Actually, if I recall SC4M regions can be created without a config.bmp. Simply go to SC4Terraformer/Mapper, Click create new region, and select the option for the SC4M file. It should load the region and have the predefined configuration.

I used the SC4 Mapper program, then re-arranged the tiles myself. I prefer large city tiles and this had none, so I made a few. SC4 Mapper has a great UI to make tiles, then lets you export a new config file with the tiles you've arranged.

"...and the region is now 32x32 instead of a cramped 16x16..."

Terraformer throws an error when I use a valid config.bmp of 32x32.  It does work however when I use one that is 16x16, and subsequently is almost identical to "Timbuktu." How do I make it 32x32?

MAPPER will auto-detect the necessary size when reading a .sc4m file and create the neccessary config.

TERRAFORMER needs the config.bmp to be created manually first.

For those of you screaming about a config.bmp;

open MS paint.

set the image size to 32x32 pixels.

select a blue color

scribble completely over the white

save as config.bmp (8bit)

I realize there are several ways to go about this, but Kinderly is right, Blunder's instructions do not work in Terraformer.

"...has not correct dimensions... it should be (2049 x 2049) but it is (1025 by 1025)."

I interpret this error to mean the SC4M file is really 16x16 and not 32x32 as stated.

Looks like this is an ideal map for me, it has high elevated areas as well as several natural harbors, and it has a big island in the middle (I like building cities on islands for some reason)
