About This File

Overview

In 1971, John King established his first used bookstore in the Michigan Theatre building in downtown Detroit. Twelve years later and bursting at the seams with books, John bought the old Advance Glove factory at 901 W. Lafayette. Since then, John King Used & Rare Books has expanded to occupy all four floors plus the basement of the old factory (John makes his home in a corner of the 4th floor) as well as the Otis Elevator building next door! Today, John King Books is a Detroit landmark and is frequented by everyone from local sports stars and politicos to celebrities like Jay Leno and magicians Penn & Teller. This is a faithful re-creation of the actual building: the only liberties taken have been with the lot design.

For SimCity4, the building has been adapted in various versions to give you the widest possible choice, depending on your individual taste. It is up to you to decide which version(s) you want to use. It does notmatter if you select only one or if you decide to use all of them simultaneously; there are no conflicts or other limitations that would prevent you from doing so.

In total, the following versions are available:

  • Ploppable landmark
  • Ploppable functional CS$
  • Growable CS$ building
  • Growable I-M building**

**Will grow as “Advance Glove Manufacturing,” the original name of the building.

Note:Both ploppable versions feature individual custom menu icons that will allow you to see immediately which version is which. Moreover, both ploppable versions are to be found conveniently grouped together near the center of your landmark menu.

Nice job. I love the blue/grey texture on the walls and the signage at the top. I'm not sure about the texturing around the front door.

Thanks everyone! @deadwoods: I tweaked that texture so many times and I'm still not truly pleased with it. So it goes... @dwee716: Please READ before you comment. This building REALLY exists in Detroit, Michigan, and it really is a bookstore. I did not make it up! =)

The blue brick texture makes this a very unique BAT - I like how you've made an industrial version too - thanks for sharing

I have waited for this for a long time. I saw it in the game before i commented, as usual, and the pictures do it injustice! Very nice. 10/10 @dwee716 that probably because it originly was a warehouse :)

I'm so sorry I didn't find the time and nerve to mod this one after all, so I'm really glad to hear that my modding lessons at least partly made up for that. Great to see another BSP release on the STEX and, if you don't mind, probably soon in German on the SimsZone. ;) An absolutely unique building, and I'm sure I'll find a place for it in my cities.

nofunk does it again, always good to see your stuff! as others have said the industral version is much appreciated. all the Great Lakes cities have converted many many industial buildings into various shops, restaurants, housing ... and book stores. nothing unusual in the recycling of buildings! Very great work.

The icing on the cake of this already excellent BAT is the multiple versions provided--what a wonderfully professional approach.

Looks good! I don't think I have too many book stores in my cities. Hopefully now that this is here, that will change. Well done!
