About This File

Designed by D.H. Burnham & Company for the prominent wholesaler Marshall Field in 1904. It was sold 2 years later to a railroad and changed owners many times until it was demolished in 1992. This BAT represents the building in use circa 1985.

Architecturally, it is significant because it expresses the Chicago School style applied to a warehouse. Since it was a warehouse, its architecture was never fully appreciated until the US Postal Service, seeking to expand their downtown Chicago facility and tear this warehouse down, paid for a historical study to be made, through the Historic American Building Survey. Drawings, measurements, and photographs were taken, and then this building was torn down.

NB - since the front of the building is slanted, the only good configuration was to place it onto a canal like it was in real life. Unfortunately, this means that only a ploppable version is included. Sorry.

p m, all your comments goes to buildings that you don't like for some strange reason. Give some positive comments for once! and read the description. Also whats wrong with a building thats shaped like that?? It's not even a really unique design in real life....I think this is beautiful 10/10

Intersting building. Nice colours. The walls look a bit "flat". Compare it with the gascooker buildings in the background and you can see the shadows on the window frames. I like the use of the canal.

pretty nice looking building, I like the angle and the canal . 48 jobs for a building this size seems really far off thought .

Not bad at all. 8/10 Those Chicagoians... What good stuff will they tear down next for progress? I am still at a loss over Meigs runway being eliminated.

deadwoods - I rendered this in 3dsmax using an advanced lighting system. It does not match the Maxis buildings perfectly, but I liked the results, especially on the fire escapes.
