About This File

Designed by D.H. Burnham & Company for the prominent wholesaler Marshall Field in 1904. It was sold 2 years later to a railroad and changed owners many times until it was demolished in 1992. This BAT represents the building in use circa 1985.

Architecturally, it is significant because it expresses the Chicago School style applied to a warehouse. Since it was a warehouse, its architecture was never fully appreciated until the US Postal Service, seeking to expand their downtown Chicago facility and tear this warehouse down, paid for a historical study to be made, through the Historic American Building Survey. Drawings, measurements, and photographs were taken, and then this building was torn down.

NB - since the front of the building is slanted, the only good configuration was to place it onto a canal like it was in real life. Unfortunately, this means that only a ploppable version is included. Sorry.

This reminds me of all the river-side industry here in Ct. In my opinion, you can't have enough of these dreary, but very real looking industries in the game. 10/10
