About This File

Landmark 5x11 - This church overlooks the Market Square of the old Dutch city of Haarlem.

the first part that was constructed was the choir. This was built from 1370 until 1400 by architect Engelbrecht van Nijvel. It was mostly executed in brick, with only a limited use of sandstone. The choir has a heavy, closed look with relatively small windows. It's also remarkably deep for what was intended as a parish-church, and the reason for its size is still a mystery.
The transept was built from 1445 to 1455 under architect Everaert Spoorwater in Brabantine Gothic style. Originally the transept was lower than it is today; between 1480 and 1495 it was heightened with a section that is still easy to tell apart from the older parts.

Very impressive, gothic cathedrals are just so difficult to get right, and I think you have done a good job on this one. It is a beautiful church in real life and it is a beauty in the game.

Absolutely brilliant! I'm at a loss of words! I'm very glad some proper Dutch buildings arrived (again) at the STEX. I'm also very glad that people around the world can see what Dutch city-centers look like!

One minor point: You keep forgetting to put a short description in the menu, it says 'custom lot' (or something). apart from that it's lovely! anders dwarves your townhall :P

I'd like to use a really great Dutch superlative, but I don't know a single word of the language, so I'm just gonna give you a big... Thanks!

Great Job. I hardly see the difference with the real one. Only one remark. This is the "Grote Kerk" (Big church) on the "grote markt". Like the name it's a church not a cathedral. Haarlem has a cathedral but that one is situated on the "leidsevaart" and is called "St. Bavo". Maybe your next project. But anyway it is a great job you have done and I am going to use it in my medium/large cities.
