  1. Show us your Region!

Wow wow wow so it's been a verrrrry long time since I posted here (just checked, last forum post was mid January), and until recently it'd been a while since I'd done anything in SC4. BUT, I have been quietly grinding away on a region (I think I made a CJ for it actually). Only small (2.5x2.5 large tiles), but I'm quite pleased with how its starting to look in places
  2. Show us Your Interchanges!

Bahh, you just sent me scuttling through the previous pages of this glorious thread to find where I 'borrowed' that interchange from. It's actually basically a carbon copy (only flipped for LHD) of GeometryMath's post on page 86 (post #2580), I hope they don't mind
  3. Show us Your Interchanges!

Just a couple of interchanges from my new CJ (glorified lets-play with screen caps). I like to call them... Little... (a trumpet interchange connecting a small farming village to the highway) ...and large A partially unravelled cloverleaf whose design I think I borrowed from an earlier post in this very thread, then converted to LHD. It serves to connect the main north-south highway with the orbital motorway of the main city of the region and the inner-city highway. More details and a better overview of the region in my CJ (link in sig, I think)
  4. Hello everyone, and welcome to part... 2 of the Capitol River Region (intro definitely not stolen from a certain SC4 Youtube Series ). Sorry for the long wait, I have many excuses I can drop for the long break, but I think I'll stick with RL and waiting for NAM 32 to be released proper (I had some visual issues with the pre-release and so didn't really want to show any dodgy images). Anyway, the main thing I needed after the initial dialling in and placement of trees and stuff, was a plan. In the past I've rarely used one of these, since I've felt more comfortable just doing what I want and seeing what happens, but in my last region I found this led to some logistical issues when I started to grow out my towns. So, this time I made a quick one using inkscape: Yellow and blue Lines are major highways, green and blue are less major routes (i.e. not all interchanges will be grade separated), the white and grey dashed line shows the rail routes, and the different shaded circles are where I'm planning on the settlements being. This is very rough and subject (hell, I've already broken bits of it), but should give an idea of where I'm going with this. So far, I have pretty much all of the southern infrastructure done, so here are some pictures of the more interesting bits of that: Up first is the intersection connecting the main highway south with the main city's ring road and the inner-city motorway (I really need to think of names for stuff for the next part, description is hard). I guess it's a partially unravelled cloverleaf, but don't quote me on that. The actual design was borrowed from the Show Us Your... Interchanges thread, which I then converted into LHD. We also have something on the smaller side, a fairly compact trumpet interchange next to the rural settlement (which I have started some work on) in the South-East of the region. Some of the bends are a little tight, but I figure traffic use will be light and so a sprawling, high-quality interchange is unnecessary. We also have a picture of the two bridges crossing the river just to the West of the first interchange. Not much to say about this, I really just thought it looked semi-interesting and was concious of how little I actually have to show thus far I guess I may as well chuck in a region shot to show the progress across the region as well. Well, see you next time guys, and hopefully much sooner Cheers Lordyboy
  5. Merry Christmas ST! :)

  6. It Begins... (Update I)

Hi guys, I've been on this site a while now, and have been posting some of the things I make around the forums, but had no real way to lump all my contributions together. Also, my old region has bugged, so its time for me to start over again, so I thought I may as well have a city journal to keep all the stuff from my new region in At the time of writing, this is what we have so far: Just finished dialling in my region with terrain and tree controllers. I've decided to go for the ARDEN Seasonal Tree Controller (Inland version) after seeing how pretty it is in the NORO Co-operative. That's all I really have to say right now (thankfully!), so see you next time I post something Cheers Lordyboy
  7. Show us your Region!

I really like the development you've got going so far, the major routes all look to be pleasingly grid-busting, and I like how the tiles that have been done flow together flawlessly I've just started a new region, since its Christmas break so I have a fair amount of time, and since my previous region is bugged (Annecy), and what with the pre-release of NAM 32 (with RRW, which I've been really looking forward to), and my discovery of the ARDEN tree controller (due to the NORO), I thought it was time to start afresh. Only a small region (2.5x2.5 large tiles) since I never finish them, but this is what I've got so far (just dialling in terrain and trees): I'm thinking I might start a CJ on this one, more just for my own reference, but will see how it goes
  8. Show us What you're Working On

Some decent starts there, I like that you're thinking ahead and thinking about using underground heavy rail in your cities, rather than possibly running into problems later on with it being overground. However, I think one thing that would improve the realism of your railways is to remember that they generally follow a very flat path (even a 1-in-100 gradient, i.e. 1m of elevation for 100m horizontally, is very steep for most railways). So when making railways, it's often best to use single clicks of the road tool to level the ground, then drag the railway over that so it's level. In the first image, to achieve flat railways you should probably have the station 'submerged' into the ground at the same level as the tunnels (using the road plop method) so the trains don't have to tackle a super-steep incline to into/out of the station
  9. an 1 large city was created in just one day?

I answered 5 months, since that's how long its taken me to develop a large tile in my current region until I'm happy with it (its still only around 60k pop). However, I don't play very often (probably at most 4 hours a week), and so that really drags out my development times if I'm trying to build something that looks realistic and aesthetically pleasing to me, rather than super-griddy and full of issues.
  10. Show us Your Interchanges!

I agree with LostRealist, that would be hell to get on/off of, and would cause lots of accidents I guess I also really like that interchange GMA, quite compact yet a safe and fast way for trucks to get onto the highway. Meanwhile, I was messing around with project symphony to see how it integrated with regular RHW (hence the 3-level roundabout interchange in the centre left), and I just kept adding other types of transport to see what I could do. I ended up liking it, and so 'filled it in' with zoning. Not perfect, and a lot of maxis content, but I thought it looked pretty cool (Also apologies for the jaggedy edges, I have no GIMP skills )
  11. Show us your Region!

There's a program out there called 'Region Census' that, among other things, gives you a view of the whole region on one screen. You can then take a print screen and paste it into paint, and you should be good to go I can't remember who made the program, but a quick search should bring it up (and someone else will probably link it anyway).
  12. Show us What you're Working On

That looks really cool, should look awesome when you've finished it I haven't been doing very much with SC4 recently (a lot of RL stuff seems to have hit all at once!), but one of the few things I did was terraform and fit a kind of promenade along the lakefront in Northshore: However, its still very much a work in progress, not least because I need to find some diagonal buildings to replace the low-density (orthagonal) residential. So, does anyone have any recommendations for me?
  13. Court and Barrister

Very beautiful and reminds me a lot of London (which I guess is the idea). Very classy with no details overlooked. I wish I had your plugins folder! :P
  14. Having to re-install SC4 and WOW! the screenshots on the installer are put to shame by the CJs on here :)

  15. Show Us Your Anti-Grid!

This looks awesome. I really like how you've kind of built into the cliff-side on the right hand side of the image, yet kept the roads at realistic gradients. Nice work! I wouldn't mind seeing some higher-res images of this
