Thanks! And steal away! You're MMPs are really useful for rural settings and for sprucing up villages! Thanks again for your MMP pack- a rarity but a true gem! -
Entry 71 -- Progress Update on Cindersville
The British Sausage posted a City Journal entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
Entry 71 -- Progress Update on Cindersville So I've made a huge push on the north-eastern corner of Cindersville. I can say it is definitely halfway done as I move around the mountain which dominates this area, eventually I will tackle the very top of the mountain itself. Finally, if you're wondering why the teaser picture is taking longer to load up that is because it is a PNG image. I deliberately used PNG to preserve the image quality as the JPEG version caused the flowers to blur. Anyway, here are further pictures from the new areas I've been working on. Have a good weekend! {---} 1. I'm working on the areas around this mountain. 2. I had to extend some areas to flesh out the villages and some outer parts of Cindersville. 3. 4. The first thing I start with is laying down the trails and paths. 5. Then I work on the MMPs within the area defined by each set of paths. 6. One of the major northern routes leading into Cindersville required a lot of work. 7. MMP street... 8. The dark green plants are MMP ferns I use from the VIP Rural Pack. They are slow to place down and this adds time to the whole process. 9. I also had to extend out the meadows as well. While that dry river bed is actually not a dried-up river/stream, instead it is the aftermath of a flash flood which caused severe top soil erosion and a mini landslide. 10. Another PNG picture to showcase the brillance of Girafe's roses. 11. And here is Mattb325's Ben Rose House. And this is why I go crazy on the MMPs because in the end they start to blend with the trees, plants and textures of actual lots. 12. The transition between deciduous and coniferous forest. 13. There are four MMP types: flora, water, rocks and props (sims, cars and the little things like that). I reckon the hardest MMP is rockwork. 14. This picture is pure MMPs! 15. I actually added MMPs, forests and brackon to the bottom half of the mountain as before all this it was simply a sheer rock face which didn't look right. 16. I've had this winding road for almost two years. Only now is the area around it complete! {---} Right, that's it for today. I'll be back in late September as by then Cindersville will be complete and one outstanding project can be crossed off! Enjoy the weekend!- 8 Comments

Wow! You recreated Petra, the famous Al Khazneh! One of my most favourite ancient wonders of the world and the most impressive too! Well done good sir!

Entry 71 -- Progress Update on Cindersville
The British Sausage commented on The British Sausage's City Journal Entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
Korver is the MPP Master as he does it all... But I do like MMPs and creating natural areas. Thanks for your comment! I would use different flowers if they were available, unfortunately they're not HD and they are nearly always ground textures. Also the MMP was a spur-of-the-moment thing as the original plan was to create driveways which connected to the main road. The Journal is coming to an end once Cindersville, Travis City and the Big Mango is complete. Travis City is something I want to complete anyway as its a spacious rural town with gently sloping hills in the south. While the Big Mango is my New York creation and I plan for the Big Mango to be the final SC4 project and the city where I say farewell to SimCity 4. The only thing stopping the Big Mango from being completed is the lack of diagonal brownstones, but I have a plan to ask a BAT creator (or two) to help me out here in a collaborative effort (they create and I test, we jointly promote the new buildings) . Once the Big Mango is complete there will be easily 20+ entries to be made as it has proven to be the most fun I've ever had building with SC4. But once done there's even greater things ahead: Cities: Skylines. That game will be my city building medium and in a year's time I will be upgrading my PC to be able to run that game. I've seen so many youtube videos of Cities: Skylines are there's many projects I want to do: the classic mid-rise American city, building Manhattan Island, a recreation of my home town Darlington, building purely rural areas, massive industrial complexes, a recreation of Teesside, even recreating parts of the Lake District, etc. Originally I had a Cities: Skylines CJ before the expansions, and the modded content, became too much for my PC to handle. The refined builds you see of C:S youtubers I was attempting in 2015 and early 2016 working with a far more vanilla game, where every mod was a gamble and a venture in the unknown. I made my own small contribution to the C:S communities evolution via reddit posts and Simtropolis. I was testing out everything I could even though the mods had not covered the limitations of the game: lack of retaining walls, inability to move anything around, inability to tweak object sizes and redine object geometry, lack of good quality flora, lack of good quality buildings, lack of decals, lack of road markings on intersections, lack of merge lanes, etc. But now Cities: Skylines has become a game where anything can be built and some time in 2021 I will be exploring this game. It will become my defacto city building medium. Thanks! The hill is not complete yet but it will be in a week's time. -
I like how that looks! Thanks for the third version!

The question is how does the building look in real life? I keep my mouth shut often but I agree that the only off with this model, as SIM-ple Jack mentioned, is the roof texture. I can think some views of the real-life building may help to identify what to add or remove to these roof textures. I did a quick internet search and I couldn't find any pictures of the actual building in question.

Nice! Nailed that Mediterranean look!

If this picture takes longer to load up that is only because it is in PNG form. The JPEG version has the roses come out blurred and I could not have that! Also- meadows!

Entry 70 -- Potter's Slink and Cindersville

Thank you for your comment! Yes, I pretty much use every tile on the map. Or I purposefully leave tiles empty in the rural areas to add some space. -
Entry 70 -- Potter's Slink and Cindersville
The British Sausage posted a City Journal entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
Entry 70: Potter's Slink and Cindersville Welcome back! Thank you for your comments for the last entry. Over the past two weeks I've been working hard on Cindersville. In this entry I have one final area from Potter's Slink to show, a rather industrial area, then there are several pictures from Cindersville. {---} 1. In this entry we explore the south-eastern corner of Potter's Slink. 2. 3. 4. The area where I spent the most amount of my focus going diagonal... 5. The "bulky" low density residential homes. 6. With the right fillers completing this diagonal area was rather straightforward. 7. All while keeping the textures seamless. 8. Why have True Night when one can photoshop? 9. The green of the residential suburbs fades away before the omnipresent grey of industrial and commerce! 10. 11. 12. 13. For the small park area I used rsc204's overhanging R$$ triangle grass textures to create a more vibrant look! 14. 15. 16. 17. And the last picture from Potter's Slink. 18. There are six distinctive areas to complete. In green is a tiny area to the south that needs some more undergrowth and rocks. In red the northern and eastern side of the mountain needs to be spruced up. In turquoise there is an area close to the highway that needs some urban MMPs. In yellow, to the northwest will be the next area I'm working to complete. Then it will be the orange area which needs a whole bunch of undergrowth, ferns and possibly meadows. Finally, in purple, will be the final area to complete. I hope to get this all done by the end of August. 19. To the top right is a new kind of rocky floor texture I'm working upon. 20. I also added in some animals in the midst of all this nature. 21. And here's what the product of all this MMPing produces. 22. There's still quite a bit to do! Right then, the next entry will be in early September from Cindersville. See you then!- 7 Comments

Rock work from Cindersville. I'm working on the north-east portion and the large mountain which dominates that area. Starting from the south. I've been busier now that I'm revising for accountancy exams. So the work done in Cindersville happens later, usually between 9pm and midnight. This Friday, when I have more spare time I'll post a CJ entry with an update on Cindersville. The nature scenes are squeezing me dry but the rural areas of Cindersville have to be as good as the urban areas.

One third of it is skill. Another third is hard work and putting in the hours. The last third is pure blind luck. Those white fences were pure blind luck- I didn't even think about them!

Maybe, it'll depend on how the smooth curve reacts with the slope. I'll look into tomorrow and I'll post an update tomorrow as well- though from a different angle. Usually I leave the diagonal "sharpness" in for the purposes of textures but there's no textures involved.

As promised a few pictures from Cindersville. Tomorrow I'll be posting an update on my CJ. To cut a long story short I'm about halfway there through the work that needs to be done to finish off the outstanding areas. Anyway... Aside from the area to the bottom left which needs additional MMPs, the rest is complete. MMP street.

Second Whte_rbt's comment. A few hundred poor saps somewhere in South-east Asia are slaving for you and building hundreds, thousands, if not tens of thousands of new buildings, lots, props, textures and MMPs. Also -- Bhutan! -- A very unique country and for an Asian country one of the most antiquated and remotest countries in the entire continent.

That is some of the coolest lotting I've ever seen, it will look even better once you turn on the shadows! The custom retaining walls with grass textures are top are very well done. In that last picture- HOW? How are you creating so many diagonal and fractionally-angled buildings which are clearly your own creation. In fact pretty much every building I see in that picture I have not seen on the STEX or LEX or anywhere else. HOW??? How are you doing this? Nice regional view and a very pokey but cool Medieval island! Well done! Thanks for that Dreadnought. And yes I do like nature and your MMP work has got better and better, truly you have your own style. It's just missing one tiny thing, one tiny simple thing to make everything look better: turning on the shadows! Anyway, tomorrow I'll be posting some updates from Cindersville, I'm about halfway there with the outstanding work that needs to be completed. Great stuff guys and galls!

Entry 69 -- Mountain Wonderland in Cindersville
The British Sausage posted a City Journal entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
Entry 69 -- Mountain Wonderland in Cindersville In the last several days I've been putting in extra work, and using more of my spare time, to get the northern parts of Cindersville finished off. This will be the last teaser from Cindersville, a taste of what the northern areas will look like: forests, cliffs, ferns, meadows, paths, mountains, trails, villages close to the crags... {---} 1. In a few days time I'll be working on the mountains in the bottom of this picture. 2. I've worked out the flora and MMP combinations for the various terrain levels too. 3. Even worked out an MMP system for detailing around the edges of cliffs and rock faces. 4. Which will make these rocky faces, these crags really stand out! 5. Not only am I grid-busting, I'm also doing so on mountainous terrain too! 6. Having some fun with the MMP paths (FrankU's Heblem paths). 7. The woodland in the mountains will be thicker, the trails will have limited numbers of people on them and the highest parts of the terrain will have a moorland MMP flora style- what you would see in the Pennines (in England). 8. There will also be occasional meadows too. Not everywhere, but in a few special places! 9. Villages against the cliffs and crags. 10. A lot of focus is going to be spent on this main road which is rural from the north (top of picture) and joins Cindersville at a point rather close to the city centre. There is still much MMPing and trail work to be done. 11. Breaking out all the grid-busting, MMPing and rock-laying stops here. 12. Up close the meadow areas will look like this. 13. And this is why I'm putting in so many hours getting the landscaping right. The mountain in the bottom, the woodland and grassland below the bridge need to be complete- but you get the idea! {---} Thank you for your previous comments in the last entry. As for next entry- it will be one final one from Potter's Slink. This will be posted on Saturday. The rest of the days, since I have holiday booked up, will be spent getting Cindersville complete and finally laying this project to rest! Have a good week!- 11 Comments

Very nice MMPing work! And I always like your shallow waterways too! Gobias' mods work best with HD textures, then again I've always played the game in HD mode since the very beginning. Now Lowkee's Appalachia mod is a solid HD terrain mod which is good for moorland and for duller-looking environments, it is also the most forgiving for adding MMPs as well. The Berner Oberland terrain mod (from Gobias) is very sharp on the eye but is truly beautifully in higher altitude areas, unfortunately you got to be very careful placing MMPs on the terrain because they'll stand out like a sore thumb since MMP work requires blending together two or more plants/trees/flowers/undergrowth etc. I prefer the Sudden Valley mod (from Gobias) as it is more forgiving MMP wise, works well with the ARDEN tree controller and is a compromise between the Appalachia terrain and the Berner Oberland terrain. There is also 11241036's Central European tree controller which uses almost exclusively girafe's trees and plants.

The ARDEN tree controller has one or two funky elements, in particular those tall marsh weeds, but the rest is solid. It's a very versatile tree controller and it really shines from middling elevations and onwards. I tried the Cascadia tree controller and it was good but too specific to one area, I'll have to give it a try later on this month at varying elevations to see what it can produce though. There's other tree controllers but the ARDEN done by Vortext is really good because that guy is a genius at developing flora and working with terrain parameters and of course MMPing. Terrain is important as well because that will impact the distribution of flora, I believe gobias' terrain textures are best suitable for the newer tree controllers (of the 2010s) such as the Sudden Valley terrain (which I use) and Berner Oberland (one of my favourites).

Try the ARDEN tree controller, in particular the Inland version (one version out of five), which is amazing for areas of medium to high elevation!

Entry 70 -- Potter's Slink and Cindersville
The British Sausage commented on The British Sausage's City Journal Entry in My SC4 CJ Scrapbook
Thanks for that! Korver is very, very good at MMPs too. I'm back because there are outstanding projects to complete. Thank you! Each year it's getting easy to create these areas, especially with the new fillers and lots being churned out. Still waiting for diagonal brownstones so that I can complete the Brooklyn area I'm working on for my Big Mango project. Those parking textures are part of T Wrecks Industrial Revolution Mod, I then used the SAM 11 industrial streets (which have IRM concrete textures) to blend it all together.
