Entry 69 -- Mountain Wonderland in Cindersville

Entry 69 -- Mountain Wonderland in Cindersville

In the last several days I've been putting in extra work, and using more of my spare time, to get the northern parts of Cindersville finished off. This will be the last teaser from Cindersville, a taste of what the northern areas will look like: forests, cliffs, ferns, meadows, paths, mountains, trails, villages close to the crags...

{---}

1.N1hUSO.jpg

In a few days time I'll be working on the mountains in the bottom of this picture.

2.JCTjBq.jpg

I've worked out the flora and MMP combinations for the various terrain levels too.

3.SGQP7R.jpg

Even worked out an MMP system for detailing around the edges of cliffs and rock faces.

4.gihFrG.jpg

Which will make these rocky faces, these crags really stand out!

5.crICL1.jpg

Not only am I grid-busting, I'm also doing so on mountainous terrain too!

6.8ilrZK.jpg

Having some fun with the MMP paths (FrankU's Heblem paths).

7.TcWL25.jpg

The woodland in the mountains will be thicker, the trails will have limited numbers of people on them and the highest parts of the terrain will have a moorland MMP flora style- what you would see in the Pennines (in England).

8.mGzpNW.jpg

There will also be occasional meadows too. Not everywhere, but in a few special places!

9.6ypxa3.jpg

Villages against the cliffs and crags.

10.3ua4wi.jpg

A lot of focus is going to be spent on this main road which is rural from the north (top of picture) and joins Cindersville at a point rather close to the city centre. There is still much MMPing and trail work to be done.

11.kPy198.jpg

Breaking out all the grid-busting, MMPing and rock-laying stops here.

12.OyeJgj.jpg

Up close the meadow areas will look like this.

13.rtIE6a.jpg

And this is why I'm putting in so many hours getting the landscaping right. The mountain in the bottom, the woodland and grassland below the bridge need to be complete- but you get the idea!

{---}

Thank you for your previous comments in the last entry.

As for next entry- it will be one final one from Potter's Slink. This will be posted on Saturday.

The rest of the days, since I have holiday booked up, will be spent getting Cindersville complete and finally laying this project to rest!

Have a good week!

Amazing! Do you have any advice on how to emphasize a difference in height with MMP's? I'm using the Appalachian terrain and slopes seem barely noticeable with the grid turned off.

Great job!  I especially like the last picture.

Me too!* Especially those houses along with the diagonal road, why i think it doesn't look like the view of game.*:D Super!

The height difference is largely shown with shadows, rock/cliff textures and use of the tree controller. Different tree/undergrowth combos show elevation levels can help show this too. But the best way of creating a slope is a strong hand with the mountain brush, then eroding and softening where needed. Also the standard hill or mountain is nearly always wider than it is tall, thus the top third should usually be steeper, or tapered off, the middle third tends to be the steepest and so on.

Thank you! The land bridge was a happy accident, though that area is no where near to being complete. I realised today I could create a dried stream by creating a scene where flash flooding had occurred and it had gouged out more of that part of the hillside- you'll see in a month's time what I mean.

Cheers! The area with long, narrow village against the cliff faces had to be completely reterraformed to ensure the slopes were gentle enough. It's way of showing how buildings and settlements are packed into the Cindersville area, whilst the higher areas (devoid of buildings) indicate some kind of national park area or something like that!

This is amazing! I really love the amount of detail in all of your entries - this one being another fine example. :)

Also, where did you get all of those diagonal houses from? Those are really cool!

I like creating forests, meadows and nature in this game. I also do a lot of walking around too, including the hills and mountains in northern England, so I have a keen eye for natural features.

Super detail for completing Cindersville. Anyway, the diagonal houses are from Simcoug- https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/28630-simcougs-r-diagonal-homes/

ありがとうございました!

By the way, where can you get something like the green moss you're using?
I'd love to use it to recreate a real-life green space!
Best regards.
