Looking for a Blender Tutor
Drosovila replied to Baro's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
There is an option to snap to specific increments (small magnet in the bottom bar) but I personally dont like it. I recommend you learn using the 3d cursor. You can move it to any verticle, face, object etc., snap objects or geometry to it etc, really powerfull tool. If you want to flatten sth. Just scale it by 0 on the x/y/z axis. Cant go into more specific stuff because Im on mobile and theres already a lot of great advice in this thread, but feel free to ask me anything / add me on steam if you want -

Id love to know this too. If it really works like that and enough people use it, I "can" finally start working on my high tech industryy assets again -

Newcomer looking for a Jedi master
Drosovila replied to lancedragon's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Good luck! I know how confusing and illogical blender can be sometimes but by now I've pretty much seen it all So if you have any questions, just hit me up! -
After kinda lurking here for quite a while I decided that I should also get a thread going to discuss some releases or post some WIPs or just because all the cool modders have their own thread ^^ Anyway here's my latest release, a green skyscraper and hotel, that I made for the #tempted contest. I worked hard on it and am quite proud of it, so you should check it out here

The Asset Editor, what we need, what we'd like to see.
Drosovila replied to Cool_Z's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Yes, OMG yes !!! Being able to reload instead of having to redo the "new asset, chose a template... etc etc..." https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-button-in-the-asset-editor-that-just-reimports-the-model-textures.886627/ Already posted that suggestion, moo said that he'd look into it. I think I will add it to my post along with some other suggestions later. -

Man I havent posted here in ages, but I also havent really made anything worth posting. But after all the updating (still not finished...sigh) I needed to make something new, so here's an elevated, 4-track station that I saw on my trip to berlin Download -
Concrete/ruin brush - possible? (YES!)
Drosovila replied to Kaputnik's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
I havebtried changing the oil/ore textures to the default concrete one but sadly there is no way to se the opacity to 100%. It already allows for some cool effects but isnt really practical. Having additional brushes would be amazing -

Oh well, now I understand. But boldlybuilding is actually working on that right now. https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/68801-boldlybuildings-world-trade-center-original-wip/ And here is my latest growable apartement tower, and I want to keep doing some growables in the near future, since Im having a lot of fun creating them. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=508631201 Also experimented a bit with creating LUTs, but havent figured out how to upload it yet.. -
After dark update : very bad decisions taken by CO, come and see
Drosovila replied to Cool_Z's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Wait....I though the randomnized colors(128-255) would also randomnize the colors of the windows, but it seems I was wrong. On the building with the textures the windows light up in a yellow-ish tint even though they are blue on the diffuse map which is weird. I always make my windows very dark on the diffuse map since a white diffuse makes them look horrible. If the color was actually derived from the diffuse map...I don't know, if I would find the motivation to update all my buildings. -

Well being 16 and still in school helps. Sometimes I feel like I almost have too much time, but I also don't earn any money... There's already 3 WTCs on the workshop and I read somewhere that another one is in the making. And I want to do less supertall skyscrapers in the future since they become kinda boring after a while... And here's a, slightly overstylized, disco/night club to warm up to updating 50+ assets when after dark comes out :/ Workshop link. -

An important reminder about normal maps
Drosovila replied to Cool_Z's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
God dammit thats why my normals never looked quite right. All I had to do was invert the y-axis and it looks so much better. I always thought it was because of mirrored or rotated UV coordinates.... -
Asset Editor (moving buildings)
Drosovila replied to spa's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
The only way would be to use mod tools to export the model as an obj file and the textures as png, change the pivot point and reimport it but at that point it's probably not worth it anymore. -

Yes @wallacet and @TPB, I know about TPB and the likes. And after looking at it again I don't really see a reason to replace my somewhat working "unofficial" version ^^ Anyway, here's my russia tower, another request by bloodypenguin. Here's the workshop link. -
Drosovilas Assets
Drosovila replied to Drosovila's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Thanks man. It is such a beautifull tower and very fun to make. Different topic: Donations. I've been thinking about implementing a donate button for my assets. Since I'm still a student I don't need any money to survive, but I'd love to invest into some rather essential software such as crazybump or photoshop. As a reward I thought about making two tiers: 1: For X money you can vote on a poll, on what I should do next. 2: For X+Y money you can chose what asset you want and I will make it to the best of my ability. Also keep in mind that this is not a store, but just a reward for donating so I need to test the request first before accepting the donation. Now. I'm looking for your feedback on what y'all think befor I implement this, since some of you already have some experience with donations. 1. Is it even a good idea, or even worth it ? 2. Should there be more tiers, such as a mention in the description or sth? 3. Where do you think I should set these prices. I dont want to make it too expensive, but I also still want to have time for my own projects. 4. Is paypal the way to go or rather patreon or something else altogether ? -

Drosovilas Assets
Drosovila replied to Drosovila's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Well I've been thinking about making a futuristic/utopian/green city theme. Starting with nice and idyllic houese maybe almost caves (think hobbit caves, not dirty caves),cozy brick houses, overgrown villas, going up to nice skyscrapers (think like Visu's buildings but more realistic and photoreal) with skygardens and stuff. Just a green city basically. I've been prototyping a bit and I think I'll just model different buildings of the same "class", then create a texture atlas and then just map the buildings onto it. Not too efficient but the only way to get enough variety without spending hours on hours, adjusting textures and unwrapping every single building. It would be nice though if we could have different buildings share the same texture and have it be a nice 2048x2048 atlas or something. It will take some time and I'll probably work on other stuff inbetween, so I dont get burned out. And if anyone wants to team up and help me, hit me up! -
Drosovilas Assets
Drosovila replied to Drosovila's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
I hoestly just look at buildings or request and if I find something interesting (not necessairly beautiful) and it irks me to make it, i'll make it. And if people don't like it not much is lost. I want to tackle a bigger project soon (such as a building theme) but that requires a lot of planning, patience and if it ends up sucking...well that sucks.
