I find it absolutely bizarre that your original provider was willing to resort to a antimatter annihilation equivalent attack against ST as a whole. I am so glad that your were able to recover from this farce.

SimCity 3000 Unlimited - AVAILABLE ON STEAM
QuantumChicken commented on Ulisse Wolf's article in News
I bought this game on Steam, then copied it over to my windows 98se machine, which uses a 1024x768 screen. I have enough of a hassle trying to emulate MS-DOS games on my main machine let alone pre-21st century games. -
Ulisse Wolf - Simtropolis Radio Network
QuantumChicken commented on Ulisse Wolf's file in Cities: Skylines II Mods
I tried to do it as the guide states, but I am not having any luck. The Simtropolis station loads just fine, but if I want to use my own music, it seems to willfully ignore my configurations. It did not do this before the move to PDX mod portal with BePin. Something changed in the code in which my station is now invalid.- 3 Comments

The ultimate SC4-specific PC build?
QuantumChicken replied to Broonie's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I have this game running on my Ryzen 9 7950x gamer as well as on my Celeron 3.06Ghz Windows 98Se machine. That is a very different separation of tech, but it runs all the same regardless. My ryzen uses 4x SAS in a raid-0 for the games and the Win98se machine uses a IDE to SATA converter with a 256GB SSD on it. I do not notice any loading differences between either one as they both have ~1.3k addons and ~4.2k custom music. -
Can I flood Simtropolis with AI-generated BATs?
QuantumChicken replied to Propfam's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
Pseudo Algorithm, which is the correct term, not Artificial Intelligence as it still needs about 1-3 decades in order for it to be able to reproduce human-like products. I am personally guessing by the next century, it will be at a point where humans will be replaced. I have seen so many things generated by these algorithms and quite frankly, I think it is simply not practical due to how primative and bad it is at this time.- 5 Replies

The Future of SC4 Modding: The Matter of Digital vs. Disc, and Windows vs. macOS in the DLL Era
QuantumChicken replied to Tarkus's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
This Dynamic Link Library modification is incredible. It is unfortunate how Apple locked down their OS so DLLs can no longer be executed no matter how hard one tries. I bet that is for security reasons though. OpenSC4 never interested me as I always liked watching the progression on this site with modifiers. I remember on 1st day launch of SC4, I bought the cd jewel case so I could run it off my AthlonXP totally unprepared for how much that poor processor strained trying to render large cites. I guess my playing SC4 off windows 98SE days are over now as the DLLs are doing monumental work to fix these underlying issues that I never encountered on WIn98se. I do not trust Evil Arts, so OpenSC4 is definitely not practical anymore. And yes, I agree that this game is much larger than OpenTTD and OpenRCT2 by a ten-fold. I would love to see an OpenSC3000 and an OpenSC2000 one day, however. I really want to play SC4 right now, but my RAID-0 was deleted by a catastrophic cache-miss due to a bug in my controllers' firmware reacting to the forced windows update-reboot while there was a read/write process happening at the same time. I am recovering all my data at this time, which will take ~3 days due to how ungodly slow 1Gbps LAN is. It should have been in bytes, not bits... I hope that a DLL will make it possible for cites larger than the largest ones at this time, but I know that naturally, it will also require a total re-write of the core components and the internal code. -
Buildings, roads & population limits - time to lift?
QuantumChicken replied to ReneXL's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
My GPU is an OEM with a cyntrifical blower fan. I set it to 100% speed and it hovers around 90c, but only with this game. Rust, which is even more graphically intensive runs about 50-60c. My chassis is not the best, however as I have 2x SAS RAID controllers in there as well as my RTX and those said SAS controllers run hot as well. My windows 98se computer is occupying the chassis I need, but it has support for risers so I need it for my GeForce FX5500 PCI. I plan to update my win98se machine with a 19-slot franken industrial computer soon. My Power Supply Unit is an EVGA SuperNova 80+ Platinum 2 1.2 kilowatts. -
Buildings, roads & population limits - time to lift?
QuantumChicken replied to ReneXL's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Sorry for necro'ing again. I now have a Ryzen 9 7950x @ 5.70Ghz, 64GB DDR5-5200, an RTX 2080TI, and C:SI seems to move at the speed of a cement truck drag-race after getting 1 million cims in it. I think the engine will need a massive re-write to achieve modern computer powers/specs. I would love to see Colossal Order remove these limits and make the game SMT-capable. Cities Skylines II does utilise up to 64 cores of processing power, but I rather play SimCity 4 as my RTX runs at 110c on C:SII and I am afraid that I could reduce my neighbourhood to molten slag due to the 96c 16-cores/32-threads maxed out and my GPU at 110c maxed out. My DRAM even gets up there with heat generating which I thought was only possible on Factorio due to the raster-based DRAM use. I have never had issues with the more vehicles, more citizen units, and more path units mods, so I do not know what you mean. Oh yea, and about Rust, I had a sever with ~1 million agents on it (foliage, being the most, animals, being the second most, zombies, dozens of patrol helicopters, scientists by the tonnes, and lootables, being the 3rd most). Problem is that My dual-xeon server slows to a cement truck race speed as they are slow and old processors (2013). -

Am I crazy to state that SimCity 4 is better than Cities Skylines II at the current time? I am not playing C:SII right now as I am afraid that my GPU will reduce my neighbourhood to molten slag due to the 110c runtime. Will there ever be an OpenSC4 also? -
Ulisse Wolf Cities Skylines 2 Mod Lab
QuantumChicken replied to Ulisse Wolf's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Would it be possible to create a no-collide for the pedestrians and traffic? I have those mods in Cities Skylines I and love them. The traffic simulator breaks my mentality even though I love playing those games. -
PC too powerful to run SC4?
QuantumChicken replied to Lowfat Milk from Walmart's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I installed windows server 2022 21H2, and the dgvoodoo HW mode works perfectly. It IS a windows 11 23h2 issue. -

QuantumChicken replied to Lowfat Milk from Walmart's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Still happening. It is quite clear that Micro$courage did something with windows 11 23H2 as I never had this issue with 22H2 and earlier. I think I will just use my windows 98se machine with 2GB of ram and a GeForce FX 5500 PCI. -
PC too powerful to run SC4?
QuantumChicken replied to Lowfat Milk from Walmart's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
How do I do that? Just to add, I have disabled the IGPU in the BIOS. I decided to run at 1080p instead of 1440p. I have no issues with that res. -

Sorry for necro'ing this. I have Windows 11 23H2 with an AMD Ryzen 9 7950x @5.70Ghz, 64GB DDR-5200 and an RTX 2080Ti. I also have legacy rendering installed and enabled in windows. I cannot get hardware acceleration working on SC4 Steam edition even when using dgvoodoo. When I launch the game, it says error initialising direct draw, but loads up in SW mode anyways. I also tried running in Vulkan with DXVK, but it just crashes to desktop. -

My main sound card is the SB Extigy as it supports EAX and directsound 3d. Yea, I was lucky to get the AWE64 Gold for ~100CAD off ebay. With my franken 19-slot system, I also plan to get a Gravis Ultrasound PnP as my third ISA card, then the 12 PCI slots will be my nVidia, STB BlackMagic voodoo, a TerraTec DMX Classic, An SB PCI 128, an Audigy 1394, and TerraTec ESS Solo-1 PCI, A DMX Xfire 1024, an Aureal AU8820, an S3 Sonic Vibes, an Trident 4dwave, and a Guillemot Maxisound ISIS. The fun part will be allocating the IRQ sharing to all of those PCI cards. -

I don't actually have LAA installed because it is not needed on a dinosaur monolithic-dos kernel OS. To be honest, I was surprised that win98 could even load 2k addons in a 2GB memory space. -

Ah, that makes sense, thank you for clarifying it. What I remember from 32-bit server OSs is they had a kernel multistack so the DRAM could be like 16-32-64-128GB depending on which OS was used. -

My question is how can a 32-bit program use more than 3.99GB of memory? The 8GB makes no sense. -

I actually have ~2000 modifiers and loads just fine in WIn98se. It has an SSD already.
