  1. Discussion about City Tile Size

If I didn't know any better I would think Simcity 2013 was the precurser to Simcity 4. The simulation is more realistic in 2013 but the graphics are not as good and there is not as much freedom. I've been able to play the game on and off since it's release and the more I play it the more I like it. I don't think I'll ever put it in the same league as SC4 though... at least not until expanded regions, larger plot sizes and more transportation options are added. Just my $0.02!
  2. Origin Friends

I'm playing under the same username as on the forums - Districtopia. If anyone wants to add me feel free! I haven't found a "home" server yet because I can never get any of them to work consistently.
  3. Only sales of the digital download have been suspended. I'm guessing (but am not positive) that this is to ease the traffic on the servers?
  4. Not sure if anyone has posted this yet but Amazon has added this to the purchase page for Simcity 2013: "Important Note on "SimCity" Many customers are having issues connecting to the "SimCity" servers. EA is actively working to resolve these issues, but at this time we do not know when the issue will be fixed. Please visit https://help.ea.com/en/simcity/simcity for more information."
  5. It says there you bought the game. I have bought something on Amazon. That does not give me the right to reviews things I haven't bought. Can you tell us how you got your percentage? If not, why should we believe you? From Amazon's customer service page: > Does the reviewer have to buy the item from Amazon.com? No. It doesn't matter where an item was purchased, or if it was a gift, or if the reviewer just borrowed it for a weekend. If someone feels moved to write a review of an item, and they are a registered Amazon.com customer, they are welcome.< /p> Forbes explains it here in this article titled Fake Reviews: Amazon's Rotten Core. I took the number (people can edit their reviews) of Amazon verified users and divided it by the total number of reviews in that ranking. You can count yourself if you'd like. You don't have to believe me, but at least believe Amazon. Are you saying you think someone is paying a bunch of money for people to write hundreds of fake negative reviews? There is a chance some have been payed off. I mean people do get paid to write positive reviews for products. Most of the reviews as I have posted are from people who are angry fanboys, or just angry at EA who had no intent of buying the game. So instead of actually playing and buying the game, said people decided to spout off on Amazon and other sites. The main point is, you don't have to buy the product to post a review. Which brings up the question: Why is Amazon allowing people to review something they didn't even purchase. Seems kind of stupid to me.
  6. You obviously hate the people you want to buy the game. And as pointed out before other games have successful launches. Tomb Rider just got released and they have a user score of 8.7, not 1.9. So, no, there is no universal rule that all games will receive horrible user-reviews in the start. Have you ever thought about this possibility? Sim City is recieving bad reviews, because it is a bad game. It is by no means a bad game. Many people just hate it because it isn't Simcity 4.5 I mean the game is still has a better Metacritic review score than: Simcity 3000 Unlimited with stands at 77 I don't think people hate it because it isn't Simcity 4.5, they "hate" it for one of two reasons: 1. The server issues that have plagued the launch and they haven't been able to get in to play the game to any degree of depth yet. 2. The game does, at first glance (I'll reserve total judgement until I'm able to play it more extensively) seem like a giant step backwards from Simcity 4 and Simcity 3000. With each previous version of Simcity I was able to jump in and figure out what was going on, I just had to learn the new features that were added or built on. With Simcity 2013 it seems like everything that made Simcity 4 one of the greatest computer games of all time (in my opinion) were taken away. Like I said, I'm witholding total judgement until I can fairly make a call on this game, which won't come until they fix the servers, but right now it does appear as though it is a step backwards, and that's unfortunate....
  7. Who would have thought...

True, but even then we still won't be able to make an actual city...just tiny unrealistic villages. It seems like CitiesXL was listening to their audience, whereas Maxis was determined to do what they wanted to do, regardless of the opinions of their audience. Why did you buy the game in the first place? Did you have no idea how big the lots were? They said same as medium tiles in SC4, that was a lie they are even smaller, and with all the empty space and zoning in this one its even worse again. So know they were not truthfull. Why did you buy the game in the first place? Did you have no idea how big the lots were? They said the Region size is about the same size as SC4... Well we all know that isn't true. I played SC4 on/off since its launch and in that time worked on multiple regions and never actually filled one completely in (not for lack of playing enough because I certainly did, more for lack of focus on building one out completely before starting a new one). I filled an entire city plot in last night in an hour. I've also seen a lot of posts on various internet websites claiming the plots are roughly the size of the medium plots in SC4, which is emphatically false. I'd say they are roughly 3/4 the size of a medium plot in SC4, if that. True, but even then we still won't be able to make an actual city...just tiny unrealistic villages. It seems like CitiesXL was listening to their audience, whereas Maxis was determined to do what they wanted to do, regardless of the opinions of their audience. They said the Region size is about the same size as SC4... No they also said tile size was the same as medium in SC4, it is smaller then that even...google it. And lets not get into the lack of options and control over regions and how to connect cities together, that has been taken away. It kind of feels like a big step back from the open-endedness of SC4. Feels more like SC3000 and Simcity Societies combined. Witholding full judgement until I play it a bit more but so far the negatives are outweighing the positives for me...
  8. Show Us Your Skylines

Nice pics everyone. Gonna have to agree with the comments about curved roads - I may experiment a little with them but for the most part I always like sticking to a grid pattern. Because I'm boring like that.
  9. Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello everyone! I'm newly registered to the board (but have been lurking for years ) but not new to the game. Finally decided to sign up today to get in on the SC2013 discussions. Looking forward to discussing with everyone.
