Yes, the one on the left. For the same reasons.

You should still be able to use the "mirror" tool. This is "broken" This should work ok. Give it a try. I'm almost certain this is correct advice.
-
Very nice, I like what I see. I notice one of the windows is still messed-up. Did you use the mirror tool in Gmax by any chance? The mirror tool in Gmax is known to be broken (if used from the top menue Tools/mirror) and can lead to this odd texture effect. If you use the mirror option in the modifier list you should be ok. Hope that helps, can't think of any other reason for the odd effect. Regards Mntoes

Forget Sociétés and to dream as of today of very new SimCity which await us! Thank you with our friends for Simtimes to have informed to us. Its infos was found in stores German Gamestar. The play will have a very new graphic engine but also a Multijoueur mode! Appointment next Wednesday for the advertisement of play which announces the most waited since glosses!! Of course Will Wright does not make leave the adventure, it works on its next play! Thank you once again in SimTimes

Medical and school are always demanding fund please help?
mntoes replied to bomberboy's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Not sure about the schools, but with the medical i'm certain it's a bug that never got fixed. -
If you didn't like the results before you should now. Are you going to add some company signage?
-
Yes that's normal. Here you have un-hidden the camera and lighting rig for the scene. You can always hide it again. (yellow = lights, blue = cameras)

First of all let me appologise to Madhatter 106 for hijacking your thread somewhat. Sorry! Resutls 1) I first started to completley re-model the building doing test renders as I went along. All went well until I used planes and textured them for the windows. This is when the problem first presented itself. 2) I went back to the original model and re-rendered without the windows or window texture. All ok. 3) I added a window plane to the windows one at a time and rendered each time. 4) All renders were ok until I added a plane to one paticular window. See pictures below:- Al textures are the same and all rendering is done with an Nvidiea graphics card. Without that one window plane the building renders fine in all directions. I guess Jason hit the nail on the head with his suggestion about the visual characteristics of the render. (thanks Jason) What am I going to do? Well i'm going to go back to my other models in the same set and try the same experiment. I could never have attempted this before but now rendering times are so much faster it's not such a pain. I guess i'll be having some buildings without windows but on this scale you really don't notice, Hope this helps with your problem and once again sorry to take over your thread. Mntoes.

JCW - "So maybe if you shift the geometry around a little and change the texture a little maybe it will be ok." With my problem model I adopted the approach of re-building the whole thing bit by bit trying a re-render at each stage. (merging parts of the old model into a new scene, render, merge another part, render....) . It took ages, but it was only when the whole thing was almost complete again that the problem showed up again.(from memory above about 90%) . All of the textures have been used before on other models without the same effect so maybe it is a model problem. I must confess at that stage I gave up. Edit.. sorry I think I may have repeated myself too much. Update. I have now done a render on a computer with an ATI graphics card. The same problem presented itself. I am considering re-making the whole thing just to see what happens. At least with newer computers render times are shorter...lol. I will update you on my progress.

Glad to see my church placed in such a wonderful location. What a beautiful town.Thanks. I love that M & S btw.

I think it looks a bit odd because as said the verical scaling needs adjusting. Also the distance between the top floor and the next one down needs to be more. otherwise youv'e picked a good building to bat. Do you intend to bat the basement?

BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
mntoes replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I seem to recall reading somewhere (ages ago, in an earlier portion of this thread perhaps) that the mirror tool through BAT in gmax is broken or borked... My understanding is that the mirror tool under "parametric modifiers" should work ok. It's the one under "tools" that distorts textures. Alway been that way for me...strange. -
I thought the problem sounded familiar. I tried re-loding. re-lighting and changing a few textures all to no avail. What I did do was to re-create the model bit by bit. (saving parts and then importing them into a new scene). It worked up to a point but when the model was complete again the same problem occured? argh****!! To my shame I kind of gave up then as I got lost as to which part I had imported that could have caused the problem . I don't think it's a texture problem as I have used all of these textures before. My only other thought was that I rendered on a computer with a newer version of direct x. Could be wrong, just a thought. If you do find a solution please, please do let me know. You would make my day! Regards Mntoes

Is this the problem to which you refer? I had this problem way back in December 10. Never did solve it. Other than to go with the graphics card suggestion. One of the reasons I kind of stopped bating latley.

Quote :- "There is the incriminated cube (see the image) 7 meters" Are you sure that your cube is 7 x 7 meters? The picture you see below is of a cube I made 38m x 38m and it looks similar to your picture: Note the area marked grid = 16. In the next Image I have created a cube 7m x 7m and to do this note that I have zoomed in to show grid=1 You can clearly see 7 x 1 meter verticle squares. Your example shows approx 2.5 verticle squares as in my picture of the first cube. I think you need to zoom in. Hope that helps.

Don't worry it takes a great deal of time to export some bats depending on the size of the file.It is quite common for it to appear to be stuck on 13% but leave it alone and it will eventually do it. Good luck.

You need to go into the descriptor for the prop. Under the tab "advanced" set "light" to "true". Click ok and it should now work. Hope this helps. Mntoes

Thanks for sorting that dirk. Just a pointer to a typo in this text. It reads "if you meet meet the requirements" Regards Mntoes

I think something is wrong with my profile (view my content...St Exchange). When I list my Stex files I have 14 items and some files are "missing". If I do a search for my name these files show but I have other bats not made by me also showing.?? I think I had about 20/21 files. Strange Edit:- I know it's fine tuning but I thought I would bring this to your attention. Good work so far.

This tutorial covers the making of an arched window using GMax using the "welding" method. I would like to credit Baco for his help with this tutorial. Enjoy! -by mntoes Let's begin. Draw 2 rectangles and an arc like so: Next right click on both rectangles and the arc and convert each to an editable spline. Right click on the rectangle for the window and add an edit spline modifier. Select the rectangle for the window again, click the “edit spline” modifier” Select the “+” next to the “edit spline”. Select “segment” pick the top segment of the rectangle ( in red here) Choose “edit” from the top menu and select “delete” You should now have this:- Click again on the rectangle for the window and select “attach”. Now click on the rectangle for the wall and the arc. These will now become one object. (Should all be the same colour?) This is the important part! Click on the “editable spline” and select “vertex”. Now zoom in and select the “+” surrounded by a square at the end of the line for the arc. In the geometry roll out pick “Weld”. Drag the green and red arrows until the +/square is over the “+” below (belonging to the rectangle). You should see:- Select “yes” and repeat the same for the other side (you can only weld one point at once). Now select the outer rectangle and add your “extrude” modifier and the amount of extrude (I use -0.4). If you want more than one window you can always clone the window (after you have welded the vertex) then move the copy to where you want it. You could also use the array tool but I am still not quite competent at this yet, so it’s a case of just trying. PS. clone the window before you attach it to the wall rectangle. When it comes to the window frame you can follow Maxis Brian’s tutorial but do the top bit with an arc and attach it to rectangle window frame. It is up to you if you delete the top segment of the rectangle or not. Hope this helps. I had to mess around for hours to understand this but finally got the hang of it. Regards Mntoes.
