  1. My FA Content

Hey ST, I've been working on a pack of FA oriented content for quite some time now. I still have many questions, but here's what I have functioning in the game right now: Thanks to the many members who have helped out so far. Before I release these, I'd love to know how I can lower the plop cost of each lot in PIMX. (Currently set at default. I'm a noob lol) Additionally, I'd like to put the buildings in prop families to cut down on menu space/get each recolor in the same file. Any guidance on that is helpful. I've also included a zip containing the semi-finished products as I'd love to know if they're working in everyone's game. Included should be: FA2 3 houses FA2 CVS Wedge FA2 1387 Jesup Ave (+recolor) FA3 181 Gun Hill Rd (+recolor) FA3 Philly rowhomes (+recolors) FA3 St. Nick House (recolor missing from zip) Feedback/best practices are essential! Let me know what I can do to clean these up. I intend to create more--at least enough to fill in my FA networks FA tests.zip
  2. My FA Content

First off, thanks Ty and rsc204 for your direction. I have some questions that I will address in my next reply. New industrial. I created this lot using the blank.dat as the building, so hopefully no surprises with the models this time! Linked a lot with untouched stats (my intention is to make these lots relatively neutral in cost and resource consumption) Please let me know if I messed something else up! Angled for FA3 fa_ind_test.zip

This is very helpful! Could you elaborate about the "blank" model? Is this a SC4 game file? I HATE that little invisible box... it complicates everything and I'd love to phase it out immediately. I was under the impression that I had to use it for overhanging buildings. Thanks for letting me know about the IID conflict as well. It was not appearing in my game. Nightlighting is my next learning endeavor! But it's priority #2 or 3. I want to iron out the fundamentals of BATing first... like not having overlapping models Thanks for the feedback Ty!

Hot off the presses: 2 colors! 2 rotations! For use along FA2 roads. Want to see them in-game? Head over to my thread and download to try them out. This property and several more are included! I need some guidance before an official release comes. Thanks to everyone who as helped so far. Cheers

You might not have to. Here's Darknono35's General Motors Building. Vesions 2 and 1 respectively. Version 2 is on the left, and looks properly scaled. On the right, version 1 may not have been rescaled on the Z axis. This is not my work so I can't confirm, but I believe this easily illustrates the difference scaling on the Z makes at greater heights Personally, I'm curious about your motivations to rescale all axes--are you unhappy with the scale of the game's grid in general? This reminds me of having the wrong models for train sets as a kid and cramming O scale models into an HO scale world... not sure if anyone relates haha

They would fit almost perfectly on a diagonal! A 16m plot is 22.6m across diagonally. This is only a solution if you want an entirely diagonal game lol. But I think many people (including myself) would be delighted Edit: I'm serious. Those W2Ws would be perfect for my downtown district!

Those are great diag/FA wall pieces, do you remember where they're from? Also, I didn't abandon the formstone rows, I'm just sorting out LOD issues with the angled files. Once I get them squared away I can compile a release. All the models are ready to go. Thanks! I pivoted towards this style for the moment because the new law buildings are easier to measure out than the old style that we had discussed lol. more in the works
  8. Show us What you're Working On

Much appreciated! This is just what I needed in order to go a bit deeper. Thank you Raymond! And I wish my Mandarin was as good as your English, haha. not awful at all, I love your posts
  9. Show us What you're Working On

Thanks Raymond. This is my first time hearing about LODs. What is an LOD? Is this the correct methodology?

Hi all. I'm fond of this building I made but I'm having a recurring issue with diagonal builds. I'm very careful not to overlap the boundaries but somehow all of my WTW models have graphical clipping issues. What causes this issue? How might I be able to solve this? I can provide more info as needed. This issue is one of my last barriers to releasing this item and many more! 150 W 140th St, Harlem NYC
  11. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Does anybody know where to find this Japanese BAT? I'm missing the model file
  12. I'm working on my first BAT and I'd like to pick everyone's brains. I'm really in the thick of it here and have a lot of questions that I haven't figured out on my own. This is an overhanging 1x2 left corner lot. I angled it to fit against FAR--2 networks. Can I improve on anything based on the screengrab? How do I go about texturing the windows in Sketchup? (or in general?) How far offset do I have to center the project to achieve the overhang, and... What is the process to convert the model to a prop to be used as an overhanging building? Does anyone know a way to convert .skp files to .3ds, outside of sketchup? I'm using a free version and don't have access to pro. Am I completely out of my depth considering this is my first project?? If you can answer any combination of these questions please let me know! I'm grateful for the support on this site and eager to build lol.
  13. Need some help first BAT!

Update: shaved the models down and little improvement Am I missing something here?
  14. Need some help first BAT!

Hey folks, an update and a hurdle. Been a bit inactive due to irl things. Is this graphical error due to the props overlapping? Only visible from some rotations but I fear I'll have to shave down the model. Ugh. This is a diag x ortho corner piece of the Philly row set

Love the specificity! When I get home from work I'm gonna try to dive into this project. I like the variety of buildings involved

More work to be done, but I ripped these straight from 10th ave in Midtown. Planning on doing a diagonal series but I have some geometry to figure out. I want to optomize these so that they can snap together into pre-formed blocks. This style of building is ubiquitous in Manhattan, but IRL many are ortho. Re-reading your comment made me realize I'm a bit off brief here. I think if we want to realistically create diagonal blocks in Brooklyn we'll have to pull source material from places that are angled that way IRL. Bed Stuy, Crown Heights, all the way out to Brighton Beach are all aligned to this grid. Are there any particular styles you'd particularly want me to capture? There are so many styles of brownstones there. Give me some addresses or street view captures and I'll help you out. I'd love to see what you're aiming for. cheers

I want to hear your best practices for planning FA blocks and street grids. I made some more recolors of these Philly rowhouses but now I want to make corner pieces for intersections. I haven't thought much about FA3 block sizes or viability/stability of connections. Wondering if anybody in this thread has already given it some thought? Planning a FA3 grid seems difficult--I haven't been able to create 4 way intersections with much ease. I don't know how viable additional pieces would be, or what the demand for those pieces would be. Thoughts? I like this whacky little traffic island though
  18. Show us What you're Working On

These are some of CP's victorian diagonals. They're stylistically a bit different but they are very versatile and well made!
  19. Need some help first BAT!

FA3 Rowhomes, 1x3 overhanging I'll do some more recolors (3rd pic is incomplete) These are lots of fun to make!
  20. Show us What you're Working On

The ultimate plan is to develop enough pieces to do that! When I make taller buildings, they will be a different format as you don't really see 13 ft wide, 5 story buildings lol. So probably double width of these. That would be more authentic to the kinds of buildings we have in NY anyway. But I have an absolute ARMY of these lil guys right now. Anyway I'm glad you like them. I'm working on some recolors. I want to ret up a prop family for thse but I'm not exactly sure what that entails, or what I'm talking about. So it's in the pipeline! go birds!
  21. Show us What you're Working On

Who was working on a series of Baltimore/formstone themed rowhouses?? I remember reading your post about making 3 buildings per tile, and I thought those measurements would lend well to a FA rowhouse block. So here's a South Philly style row! Still have some work to do on textures/roof junk, but this is the gist. Anyway shoutout to that user who's making the formstone houses. Thanks for the inspiration! From what I remember your project was coming along great. These houses are a blast to make have fun
  22. OWR-1 Override Texture Problem

For what it's worth, I think you're more than halfway there. I respect your decision if you don't want to sink in the time, but they already look very convincing. I would use them everywhere.
  23. OWR-1 Override Texture Problem

I think this looks fantastic! I'd love to download this piece to redo some of my arterials!!
