Hey: Don't know if mrPS will create a problem or not, sorry. What I will say is the darker image (the one with the mrPS) looks much better. I thought it was darknite. Concerning the stairs I would say yes, it does look a bit 2D. Perhaps try to create a real staircase and see if that helps, but that might make the other lighted windows seem 2D. Give it a try, no harm in that. If it doesn't work then you have learned something. I have used this saying before and I'll say it again, "Good judgement comes from experience, experience comes from bad judgement".

I didn' t realize you don't have MAX. Sorry, my fault. I tried GMAX on my 64 bit vista and it doesn't seem to work properly. I will eventually have to set up a virtual windows 32 bit XP machine when I get around to it. I suppose you could try a sphere (Does GMAX have a sphere?). Again I apologize. Most BATTERS seem to be using MAX. I beleve (if your a student) you can get MAX 2011 free for 3 years at Autodesk . I think you just need to get a teacher with an .edu email address to sign up for you. So...if your a student I would go for it. Otherwise you'll have to go the expensive route of $3500US or there about. Let me know if you get it. Then I can help no problem. Cheers BTW. The building and texturing looks much much better.

Are you going to take my advice and follow the tutorials? I will say it again. It's really the best way to learn. Crawl before walk, walk before run. Within a few months you'll be creating some really cool stuff. Good luck

Hey: I was going to prepare a tutorial on how to create the canopy and apply textures. However I think what might be better for you at this time is to get used to using MAX's interface (if your using GMAX, I'm not sure how much this will help, just give it a try). What helped me was this tutorial. Especially the first 4 videos. It's a long tutorial (all the videos together) but will help you greatly. It can be a bit tedious at times, but hey, this is the only way to learn MAX. Just be patient and follow the instructions as best you can and do it over again until you get it right. You have to understand that most of the people here are doing this as a hobby, tutorials at CGTuts , The area , and 3DM.com are done usually by professionals in the field and have time (mosltly because they are getting paid) to create extensive tutorials. Take a couple of weeks and go through a few of these and I promise you it will help big time. Good luck.

Nice detail even right into the garage bay. Lighting can be very tricky but you have made it look very realistic. Well done. One thing I would add is more grunge on the roof (perhaps even some more discarded smaller parts). I would also add a composite map on the walls with a procedural mask or two to dirty them up quite a bit.

Very big improvement. the lighting is pleasing to the eyes now. Nothing that sticks out as far as I'm concerned. -
WOW. Very lovely colors. They do indeed look beautiful..

Well.. making a breakthrough is sometimes just as important than scraping a project. There is an old saying..."Good judgement comes from experience, experience come from bad judgement." BTW. I like what you have done with the house. I would change a couple of minor things, but otherwise it's fine. Take care. -
Beautiful window textures. Now I need to ask. Are the drapes part of the texture or objects within the building? Nice roof rubbish..er..I mean junk

I can try to do it Friday if I have the time. In the meantime, play around with the Oiltank primitive and the UVW Modifier with Spherical Mapping coordinates.

Hey: I took a closer look at the building on google and got these pics For now I wouldn't worry about the parking lot, trailer, plus the "dirt" on the upper part of the side wall. You can do that later. As for the canopy I took the liberty to do a quick example and render (took me about 30 minutes) of it using the "oilTank" primative. I used a UVW Map Modifier with a Spherical Map. You can use more advanced ways like more than 1 material ID or unwrap Mapping but that wold take considerably longer. Here is what I got in about 30 minutes. It isn't perfect but at least you can get an idea of what you can achieve by the images (in particular the canopy pic from google) provided. I believe all this can be accomplished in GMAX. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Personally I liked the lighter texture better. I would also consider playing around with the roof texture on the main building. It "jumps out" at you too much. Foe example. Tone down the white tiles a little. Try using a procedural Tile Map (if GMAX has the capability of procedural tile maps, sorry I don't know much about GMAX). You can get almost an unlimited amount of variations with this map. The scale looks too big as well. Over all though, It's a fine looking building.

Hey: Looking nice. One thing I would consider changing is the flagstone on the front first floor. Keep the flagstone on the corner in a short brick, long brick format like on the second floor. Perhaps a little lighter roof texture? But that's not a big deal. I would also change the flagstone on the tread. Make it the same texture as the porch. The riser and tread being the same texture makes it too hard to tell one from the other IMO PS. Is the brown guy included? -
I wouldn't even worry about the BAT for now. I would concentrate on learning MAX's interface and some basics first. You have to take some initiative because...er...well... we can't hold your hand every step of the way to put it simply. Trust me when I say to read a book or two on MAX, check out psander5's 2 links concerning tutorials. You can do it. I have faith

Hey. Question. Is the front door part of the texture? If it is then that is what the problem is. Go into the Create>AEC Extended>Doors section and create a door from there, make sure the door is a separate object from the wall, then the cue ball will be cut where the door is placed. If that door is NOT a separate object then you need to detach it from the wall and put a different (door) texture on it.... Oh sorry that is part of the canopy? Hmm.. It would help me if I could see the model without the texture. I believe I could help you out a bit better. Sorry dude, it's just very difficult to figure out what's going on from that one picture.
