I took some time and made this little nice feature: the HKABT Timeline It shows every bat released on a timeline. If you click on a BAT, you get a window with a picture, a link and the name of the author. (sometimes the window doesn't show up right. In that case click it again and it should be ok). The timeline consists of 3 parts. A line with the weeks showing all the BATs, a line with the months and a line with the years. You can scroll each of these by panning it right or left, or scrolling with your mouse wheel. Have fun, Paulvmontfort

Welcome, To Tepodon's TOKYO 4.0 BAT thread. I will post my BAT's based on real buildings from Tokyo, Japan on this thread from now on. Feedback and criticism are welcomed, and are highly valuable. Both positive feedback and harsh criticism I shall accept, and I will be thankful for both equally. I also will not mind others posting pictures of their own BAT's based on buildings from Tokyo. This is a thread that is dedicated to re-creating architecture from Tokyo, and no other Japanese city.

Stay tuned for more updates. Also, anybody got some tips i can i do for the lighting, And how i can get the tv screen to change from different pictures. -

Cockatoo posted a topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Well done guys. If you haven’t already had a chance to read through the 2009 Trixie Awards, we got Favourite BAT Team. The admins are going to come asking for a list of team members who were active or contributed to something in 2009, so I thought it'd be good to get that together. This is what I have so far: Bixel Paulvmontfort Simfox Cockatoo-210893 T Wrecks (No releases, but you've done some excellent modding for Paul.) HONG KONG (No releases I know, but you're a brilliant help with reference photos, that’s a contribution.) Luk0872 Anyone I missed? Or is that it? -

Hi everybody! A special great thank you to Cockatoo who convince me to open my own Bat Thread. I hope you will help me, giving advices for my new bats. I am working currently on an ambitious project (for me I mean) which I named "Brickell on the river" which is a Miami Building. This project is divided in three smaller projects: - The North Tower -The South tower -The link between the two buildings which include parking cars and swimming pool. Here is a Gmax pics of the south & North rendering view which give you an idea of what it will be. P.S:I have no idea of how is the base floors of the North building (The left bdg on the first pic) . So, if somebody can PM pics, I'll be very thankful!

These are few shots I've made in China last winter. We'll start from Tianjin - about 10 000 000 strong municipality about 130km from Beijing: Here you can clearly see where all the electricity goes - AC unit under virtually every window. And those are on for about 6-7 months in a year, at lest. close up on "architectural" detail... Chinese cities are littered with such campest version of "European" "art" European is considerate to be exotic. So here you have what would be something like Mediterranean villa with some 30-40 floors stuck right in the middle: 20-30 yo houses are already largelly scheduled for demolition...

GuidThe purpose of this topic is to introduce Chinese bats to the ST community., similar to the Japanese Bat topic in the open discussion forum. One major website for hunting Chinese Bats is simcity.cn Another fan site is the Tian Du Cheng. They are all forum base website, so for those who know nothing about chinese it could be very confusing. Therefore, I will regularly update and post the url and pics of Chinese bats here, and if you find something you want but can't find the url, post it here, I will try my best to find the download link for it. A simple step by step instruction on how to register for simcity.cn: if you click any link posted here and didn't register for the simcity.cn, you should have something like what's show in the picture. it just telling you need to register in order to view/download the content. here is the instruction: 1. locate the "register" button on the upper right conor. 2. then you end up a bunch of agreement that you need to agree on....just like other forum base site, you can chooce to read it. then click the little box below, and click the button on the right as shown in the picture: 3. here is where you fill in all the info needed: follow the translation in the picture. a green check mark indicate the info you typed in are valid, otherwise a red cross will be shown. then click done and you are ready to explore the world of simcity.cn! good luck!

hkabat-forum-threads Do you know the Ryugyong Hotel? An 330m asian skycraper...
scasta1982 posted a topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Hello! Someone could model it? The Ryugyong Hotel (or Ryu-Gyong Hotel or Yu-Kyung Hotel or the 105 Building) is a towering, empty concrete shell that was once intended for use as a hotel in Sojang-dong, in the Potong-gang District of Pyongyang, North Korea. The hotel's name comes from one of the historic names for Pyongyang: Ryugyong, or "capital of willows". Its 105 stories rise to a height of 330 m (1,083 ft), and it boasts some 360,000 m² (3.9 million square feet) of floor space, making it the most prominent feature of the city's skyline and by far the largest structure in the country. Construction started in 1987 and ceased in 1992. If the building were ever completed, it would be the world's tallest hotel and the seventh largest building in the world.[1] However, as of 2006, it remains unfinished and unoccupied, largely because the elevator engineering failed to provide transport to its upper floors. Today, the Rose Tower in Dubai is the tallest hotel in the world at 333 meters (1,093 feet), just passing the Burj al-Arab (also in Dubai at 321 meters (1,053 feet) which was completed in 1999) in 2006 after it was topped out. The "105 Building" is one of the boldest buildings in Pyongyang. From a distance, it is a dreadful, if awe-inspiring piece of architecture. It reminds one of the following passage from George Orwell's book, 1984:The Ministry of Truth—Minitrue, in Newspeak—was startlingly different from any other object in sight. It was an enormous pyramidal structure of glittering white concrete, soaring up, terrace after terrace, three hundred meters into the air...The Ministry of Truth contained, it was said, three thousand rooms above ground level, and corresponding ramifications below. (from 1984, by George Orwell, c. 1949) This Pyongyang building is not actually a government ministry or a place of terror, but the Yu-kyung hotel. In a strange coincidence, it is the same height as the building in 1984 and contains the same number of rooms. The Ryugyong's planned 3,000 rooms and 7 revolving restaurants were scheduled to open in June 1989 for the World Festival of Youth and Students, but problems with building methods and materials delayed it. Japanese newspapers estimated the cost of construction was $750 million[4]—2% of North Korea's GDP—and it is generally assumed construction came to a halt in 1992 due to lack of funding, acute electricity shortages, and the prevailing famine. Official pictures of Pyongyang often show the building illuminated at night, but this is due to photo manipulation. The basic structure is complete, but no windows, fixtures, or fittings have been installed, presumably due to the high cost. According to Emporis, the building will never open as presently constructed, partially due to the poor quality of concrete used in its construction making the structure unsafe, and the North Korean government is trying to invite a foreign investment of $300 million to improve and finish the hotel. In the meantime, it has removed the Ryugyong from maps and stamps and built a newer five-star hotel of more conventional design on the Taedong River. I think it is ugly... More information: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=130967 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryugyong_Hotel http://maps.google.com/maps? [All links converted into thumbnails. Please read the forum rules before you post. Firstly, images must not be over 800x600 pixels. If you use ImageShack anyway, why don't you post thumbnails? (This goes to everybody who uses ImageShack, btw) Those masses of big images make it a pain in the neck to open the thread. Not everybody is on a super-fast connection! People in the DSL era tend to forget everything about efficiency (thumbnails of a few kB each) and superfluous bulk (lots of huge pictures all slapped together). If you don't know how to use ImageShack's thumbnail feature with this forum software, go to the "Show us how you use HKABT content" thread for a step-by-step tutorial. Secondly, this is a building request, and all those requests must be placed in the official BAT request thread. Please remember that the next time. For now, I'm leaving this thread open because it has evolved into a good discussion incidentally. Lateron I might attach the posts to the General Discussion thread. Thirdly, a friendly reminder about fonts and font sizes: The use of big fonts always leaves a bad taste because it looks as if the poster tried to superimpose himself over others... That being said, I'll have an eye on this thread, but leave it open for now. Your input here is welcome, scasta1982, but please do read the rules and try to remember what I just wrote here. ~ T Wrecks] -
hkabat-forum-threads EastAsia Fundamentalist BAT Faction
2ch.net simplayer posted a topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
East Asia Fundamentalist BAT Faction WE WILL NOT BOW TO DEFAULT MAXIS STYLE OF SIMCITY ! Very many people including myself, have been quite discontent over the predominantly western style that simcity adopts. It is quite sad that there is nearly zero Asia-based CJ's around. (Sultanate of Joro is the only Asia-based CJ that I know.) The reason is very clear - because there is an obvious shortage of Asian buildings and props, especially PROPS. How many of you have missed the bright neon billboards, chaotic and narrow streets, street signs, noodle stands, lanterns, hanging banners, dragon statue, pagoda, rows of bicycles, laundry hanging over narrow streets etcetcetc....... Those things are nearly completely absent. My earlier creation, ZHONGHUA ZUTAO is just a beginning. I am not making a Chinatown, but an Asian City. Anybody can join this movement on this thread, provided that you swear two things: 1. BAT something that will make somebody shout "ASIA!" or "CHINA!", "KOREA!" "JAPAN!", whatever country east of longitude E90 2. PURSUE Asian-ness and never think about whether it is usable in game or not. One thing that might be useful to keep in mind is that there are quite a lot of people already doing shiny skyscrapers and residential blocks. To be unique, it is advisble to try something else. OK, that was a quick introduction. My first project as a formal member of HK/Asia BAT team will soon follow. -

Use this topic to post anything intersting you find related to Asian architecture... I figure it can be sort of a picture repository of buildings. If you have any great website for pictures, post links here to. I can also be inspiring for the "What should I build next?" question. I know there were some in the old thread... some just clutter ( ) and some that were just simply amazing. One day I might move them over here. I got the best ones that I remember. In the General Off-Topic Forum, somebody posted a link to an article about the 15 best skylines in the world... The topic can be found here. And the article can be found here. Lots of Asian cities get top marks. In the article, I found this picture, which I thought I would share as it shows what a lot of the buildings look like at night. It can be found here. WARNING--It is large. EDIT: This is my 2000th post! Yeah! EDIT #2: Here are some more links to great websites and pictures from the old thread: http://www.globalphotos.org/hongkong.htmquote> WOW!!! Check this image out.. It's a huge panoramic view of Hong Kong at night... WARNING: It's 2 MB!!! http://www.osterkamps.de/hongkong/archives/bilder/skyline_gross.jpg I think I would get banned if I posted it here, lol... 13723x2523 pixels... Citizens! You are all welcomed to SimFox Construction & Research Here you’ll see our current construction and research projects. On the construction side 3 project are currently in works at various stages of completion. Beijing Silver Tower One Peking Road Here are two renders of same model, which show possibilities and reason for somewhat slow progression on projects: New residential medium (compare to Bixel’s monsters – very, very modest) tower: this is presentational render of the building, unfortunately there is no way (I would know of) to bring this level of realism to the game, but I'll keep trying to move to this direction. You could see more renders of the tower later on in game view. This is just to give you idea of what I'm trying to create - medium tall 30+ floors narrow medium wealth residential tower or complex - haven't decided which one, may be both. Tower could be module to build larger complexes. Apart from BATing a lot of time and energy is dedicated to develop most advanced methods of building/rendering/lighting. This is prime reason for relative slow progress of earlier projects. When I just started with BAT about 4 months ago I had no clue about any of the intricacies of 3D modeling and presentation, so I'm learning as i go. I hope time spend learning will bring sizable benefits to the community. Current research project: New lighting rig – SSE Rig (Sun-Sky-Earth). Extensive explanatory article stating need and possibilities of new lighting system for BatForMax will be published later in August. Here are couple of samples showing difference between render done with default rig (on the left) and one done with new SSE system (on the right) (*building model - courtesy of BiXEL Residentials Construction unlimited ) : Know-How developed in SimFox Labs has been already applied in real Simlife! Latest offering from HongKong BAT team – HK MTR Transit Station by Bixel has been rendered in BiXEL Residentials Construction unlimited with LihgtSystem by SimFox Labs. Another upcoming release Bigger then Life TTC by Bixel has been processed and rendered at our Research Center just couple of days ago and is currently in modding and lotting stage. Following projects: New NightLighting System (still on the level of idea)

Hello everybody! I thought I'd take advantage of the new team room by opening this thread - it's for everybody who uses Hong Kong / Asia BATs. Here you can show off a bit by posting screenshots that reveal how you use HKABT buildings in your cities. Please remember that the size of pictures is limited to 800x600 pixels if the pictures are posted directly into the reply. If they are bigger, DragonAnime, our moderator in charge, will breathe some fire up your... well, you get the idea. You can post bigger images either by using links, or by using thumbnails. Here's a quick how-to on using ImageShack to post thumbnails: - Go to www.imageshack.us. - Click "Browse" to browse to a file on your HD you want to upload. - Click on "Host it!" and wait a while - Once your image is uploaded, you will see a page with a preview of your image and some link codes. - Scroll down a bit until you see the code at the bottom, "direct link to image". Copy it by highlighting it (double-click into the text field where it's displayed) and pressing [Ctrl]+[C]. - Now go to your reply on Simtropolis. Click the "Add/edit" image icon. A new window called "Image properties" will pop up. - This window has three tabs. Go to the second tab "link". - Copy the link to the picture into the "URL" text field by clicking into the field and pressing [Ctrl]+[V]. This should copy the Imageshack link into the text field. - Now go back to the first tab, "Image info". - Click into the topmost text field, "Image selection". Press [Ctrl]+[V] once again. - Now to get a thumbnail, edit the URL by adding a ".th" between the name and the extension of the file. Let's take an example. If your image has the URL "www.imageshack.us/MyImage.jpg", change it to "www.imageshack.us/MyImage.th.jpg". The ".th" tells ImageShack to use the same image, but in thumbnail format. - Click "ok". Now you should have a thumbnail preview of your image inside your reply, and when people click on that thumbnail, they will get the full-size image, which they can also open in a new window or browser tab. One more thing: Please use any tool (there are multi-language freeware tools like XNView or IrfanView available on the net if you don't have PaintShop or PhotoShop) to convert your images to JPG format before you post them. If you adjust the compression vs. quality ratio to a quality level of ~ 60%, you should get nice pictures with reasonable file sizes. Please consult the documentation and the help forums of these tools if you are not sure how to do that. With all that boring waffle out of the way... LET'S SEE SOME NICE PICTURES!

Chris M posted a topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Welcome, guys. I'm happy to say that you now have your own forum. You can create your own BAT threads, showcase HK BAT work in SC4 threads, etc if you like. Good luck & Enjoy! -
I just download BAT and gmax 2 months ago and since then I have been having fun with it. I made a couple of simple model and improving my skill. So I think now is the good time to share them with you, and listen to your opions. I always want to BAT buildings that have special meaning to me. So I decided to bat some building in my hometown city Shenzhen. If you want to know more about the city you can just google it and found some images. I am sure there are tons of pics on web. And there is a very good thread about Shenzhen in skyscrapercity.com here. So here is a screenshot of the builings I am working on so far: Front left: Shenzhen TV station headquarter Front right: Shenzhen special zone press tower Back: Shunghing square And here is another one..... A closer look at the Shunghing Square: So what do you guys think? I am currently working on other project: the Paragon Arena and Avanlade Arena. Maybe I will start another thread later about this two project. So feel free to comment. I will upload more pics later, cheers.

hkabat-forum-threads A Guide to Japanese BAT Hunting
pnorrell posted a topic in SC4 - Custom Content
This thread has been moved from the BAT - Open Discussion to here, to help bring together these two things (The HKABAT Team and The Japanese BAT Threads) that are of a similar interest. -Jasoncw - May 19th, 2007 So here's my idea... In my line of work, the platitude - "give a man a fish and you can feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for a lifetime" - is central. We regularly discuss concepts like "sustainability," "building local capacity" and "creating an enabling environment." It all means the same thing - helping people help themselves. In that spirit, I thought I would put together a tutorial to help people navigate the Japanese universe of SimCity. It seems to me that the Massively Gigantic Japanese BAT Gallery has gotten out of hand. At 57 pages and counting, it's cumbersome and as difficult to navigate as the Japanese sites themselves. Also, while at times Japanese-speaking members like Armandeus and Eddiem have been able to perform a vital service by actually interacting with the Japanese SC4 community, at present we're back to where we started - non-Japanese speakers, foraging semi-blind through the Japanese cyber-wilderness. The vast majority of posts in the MGJBG are from people asking, "where can I find ____?" The standard response used to be to read the thread before asking, but since this is no longer practical given the size of the thread, my intention is to create a clear and convenient guide that will allow people to search for whatever they want themselves. So, with that long-winded introduction, it seems logical to start with a comprehensive list of links. Thanks to Armandeus, who compiled the original list, to Eddiem who has hosted these links on his own site, to Odainsaker who discovered the world of Japanese BATs and originally introduced us all to it and to everyone else who has contributed links and useful info along the way. JAPANESE SC4 LINKS The Essentials: The following are must-know links for Japanese BAT hunting. They include SimCityForce and Ragutaro's BBS, where most new works are posted and most old releases are archived. Google Language Tools Livedoor Online Translator Excite Online Translator WinRAR SimCity Force (new releases) SimCity Force (archive) SimCity 4 Best Ragutaro's BBS (new releases) Ragutaro's BBS (archive) Japanese Board at SC4D SimCity Force "Embassy" at Motherland of Simtropolis Creator-specific sites: The following are sites operated by and dedicated to the work of a single creator. Many of these creators may post pics or announcements regarding their work on the bulletin boards above, but you have to go to their personal sites to download. Ragutaro NOB NOB "G-Project" Raika Raika (old) APTX 8590 Somy MK Daiku Dareka BriPizza Syoryu's Mansion Kei's BATs Morikawa Railway (211 naoya) Tokitori MayorOverpop's Junkyard SUOH Beach Star Prime Mayor Sim-ism Tabinohito (Each Time One) White Arrow Mame (may have to paste into browser) Acchi Sim Commerce (Sim Kengo) ks BAT Showcase Sim4Rush Fifth Star BAT Okiba (depository) Caribou's Atelier Other sites: These are links to sites that are either inactive, unstable or of marginal importance. Still, you never know what you might find... City X Biper Homes Uwason's Sim City Door Dukaden New City Sim City Regions Board and SS Gallery (may have to paste into browser) So, there's the first step - the links. I'm sure it's not a complete list, so as more links are brought to my attention, I will add them to the list in this post. Suggestions are welcome on content and format. If people find this thread useful, maybe it can be pinned and I will include a table of contents in this post with links to later "chapters." I'm thinking the next step should be to do a summary/review/guide for each site, to showcase what's there and explain to people how to navigate them. Perhaps after that I can do a listing of sites and BATs by category - R, C, I, etc. - so that if someone is looking for... train stations, for example, a quick link in the first post can take the reader to a list of Japanese sites with train stations. Happy hunting everyone and let me know your feedback on this idea... -

First I'll explain this thread: Some time ago, I got the folowing PM: bixel, williamluk91, lucsteven, ruxia, fchan, niamo, deadwoods, iyh01, calvinization, 98tlb, shmchan, paulvmontfort, horatius_cheng, kinmulder Is it likely that we can form a e-community somewhere for Hong Kong simleons and fans of Hong Kong architecture? I think this would be a great idea since i'm a real HK fan. I'm not sure if it's possible to form a HK community on simtropolis, but i've decided to atleast open this BAT Thread here. Therefor i seek people who want to Bat HK buildings. there are a couple on the stex already, but we could have much more of these wonderful buildings. If you want to volunteer, just reply to this thread. Currently on the team are most likely: Bixel and Myself. hkabat-forum-threads Massively Gigantic Japanese BAT Gallery
Odainsaker posted a topic in SC4 - Custom Content
This thread has been moved from the BAT - Open Discussion to here, to help bring together these two things (The HKABAT Team and The Japanese BAT Threads) that are of a similar interest. Keep in mind though, that the BATs in this thread are not made by HKABAT Team members. Think of it more as the HKABAT Team hosting these threads. -Jasoncw - May 19th, 2007 While hunting for more custom BATs, I came across this Japanese SimCity 4 BAT website: Sim City Force http://homepage2.nifty.com/kamurai/simcity/index.htm The website seems to be a hugely popular BAT gallery and forums with hundreds upon hundreds of cool images. The pictures of some of the custom projects are jaw-dropping: beautiful temples and pagodas, futuristic archologies, and conspicuously popular railguns and battle mechs. Unfortunately, the language barrier may present a problem for many of us not fluent with Japanese, but some carefully random clicking and guessing on the menu and links will get us around. However, as I cannot read the language, I cannot seem to determine the home source of the images in order to try to download the buildings. It may just be a vast gallery of personal projects, or maybe a compilation of available downloads from another site. The few that offer building/lot downloads sometime use the ZIP format, while others may be in the Japanese LZH compression format (the shareware PowerArchiver 2003 will open LZH archives). The English language version of SimCity may not even support Japanese lots, but it is worth a try. The Holy Grail shines before me onscreen, but I cannot find any download links! Aaaarrrggghhhh!
