Sim City 4 Taxi Company Thread
Biriali replied to Ceafus 88's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
I tried replying to this yesterday, but the site froze up on me... I think it's a very good idea. In fact it is such a good idea, that someone else already thought of it. Though, that lot is from 2003, so a newer version probably wouldn't hurt. If you're interested, I know my way around the reader and have a good knowledge about modding transit related items -
To get turning lanes in regular roads you need the NAM. You can find the newest version here (for windows)

How to change a lot's building's properties (SC4)
Biriali replied to a topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
There are several tutorials on the use of the Reader and modding in general. Try looking at the Omnibus on this site, and the modding section over at sc4devotion.com. -
It looks nice, Archean, though a bit too American for my personal taste Also, where is that large, blue roofed warehouse building to the right from? Oh, and I do hope that your grandmother get well again!
-
Yep, I lot it all my self (except from the trucks and warehouses in my last pic - they're made by FrankU). It takes a lot of time, but the results are also a lot more satisfying.

[rises from the back of the class room] Ahem, may I come with some input? I have followed this thread since it was opened, and I have seen some good development in the students and their cities. But if may be honest, I think that they're all a little too pretty (the cities, that is, not the students). Many here aim for realism, and so do I, but the truth is that a realistic city is not a thing of beauty. A realistic city is polluted, dirty, full of noisy cars and dense traffic and huge eyesores such as concrete blocks, industrial wastelands and ill-planned high ways. So, if you want a realistic city, you have to remember, that every time you build a beautiful park (or similar) you'll also have to build an ugly block or an abandoned industrial warehouse. Anyone can create a huge (and to some extend unrealistic) city with a thousand sky scrapers, with an EQ average of 195 and nothing but high wealth inhabitants, but it really requires skill to make a city with both beauty and grit (a good example of a realistic CJ is the one by TekindusT, Tenements and Rust, I believe... although this is also a bit unrealistic as it ONLY features grit). Just my two cents. I hope it was useful. BTW, this should not be seen as a personal attack on anyone in this thread or elsewhere.

Thank you. I really love all the praise. I have another shot for anyone who might be interested. It's still from the rail yard / container port but from a different angle and at night. And you can see, that I've worked some more on it
-
Thank you, Yoshiisland I found the blue trainsheds on a very confusing site (which you can find here) The site is very much in korean and google translate won't work on it for some reason. But I think I once gave the exact link in the "Where can I find this" thread. Try have a look there... And now for something new from me (am I the only one here that builds railways?) I'm working on a container port, and no container port without a railyard! It obviously isn't finished yet, but I thought I'd share it any way. Enjoy! EDIT: I found my earlier post, that tell you were and how to get the sheds exactly

It's a cheat, DrawPaths or maybe it's DrawPath.

@ijodecordoba The building you're requesting could also look a little like something frogface once created... Try making a search on his name, and see what comes up.

Entry fee's for Hospitals, Schools and other services.
Biriali replied to RiCHBoyZ's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
Interesting. But wouldn't that require the sims to go through the hospital/school/college/whatever in question? -
Short answer: No. The pictures you may have seen, could be from a 3d modelling programme or from CitiesXL, which is a city simulator in true 3d. Simtropolis has a whole forum for this game, it can be found here
-
Here's a new picture of mine As you can see, it is the end of a tram line with a station that sits next to a railwaystation. And next to this station there's rail maintenance depot for the trains.
-
The mod you're looking for is the railway mod by the japanese guy/girl NOB. It used to be available here: http://tokitoko.hp.infoseek.co.jp/Rail_Tex.zip, but as you can see, if you click it, his/her site is no longer.

Biriali replied to RiCHBoyZ's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
The "transit switch entry cost" (or TSEC) has nothing to do with cost in money, instead it is used in stations and other transit enabled lots to determine how much time a traveller would need to use to get through the lot/station. If you want to create a system were your sims are paying (or simulate that they're paying, anyway), I would suggest you to instead take a look at ordinances. If you do this (mind you, I personally know next to nothing about modding ordinances!) you could alter one of the existing ordinances (new ordinances can't be added. It's hardcoded) to give you X money when you have Y citizens and Z public institutions like schools, hospitals etc. Here's a link to a modding guide in the Omnibus. It has a little information about the modding of ordinances. If you want more information on the subject, I would advise you to search on SC4Devotion.com. Over there you can find a true fountain of knowledge on the modding of SimCity. -

Maybe it was the fences from the SNM (SimNation Military)? They can be found on sc4devotion.com. I can't provide a link right now, unfortunately.

What is your favorite train station?
Biriali replied to Munchiez's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
I have been to many train stations around Europe. But the station I know best is my home town's station: Aarhus Hovedbanegård (Aarhus Central Station). It's the second largest train station in Denmark. The station is built together with a shopping centre and on the roof there's a mini golf course. This is the station's main entrance And at night seen from one of the surrounding pedestrian streets: Denmark is, as some may know, a nation of cyclists. This picture really shows it: This is the hall: -
Well, that depends. I use CAM, so I couldn't tell you about the default values. I just let the city reach a population of around 100,000 to 150,000, just to be safe. (it goes amazingly fast when using CAM) There's a cheat, called "LotPlop" (I think), that'll let you plop any growable building. It may require the "Maxis extra cheats" though. You should use this cheat with good care, though, as plopping too many buildings can really screw the simulator quite badly. And of course you can't use it on residential buildings.

A simple search on the word "medieval" yielded quite a few results. See them here When I start a new region, I always start with a "dummy city". A city where the only aim is to get as many residents as possible and where I don't care the slightest about the looks. They never take more than 15 minutes to build, and are bloody awful to look at. This way you unlock the higher stages, and when you no longer need the "dummy city", you can just obliterate it. You could also use this method if you want to make stage 5 buildings grow instantly.
