  1. 20yearsSC4 SC4: 2023 (20th Anniversary)

    Can't remember anymore
  2. SimCity - Memes / Jokes

This is a variety of the political compass meme which fits nicely in SimCity-verse. I'm Concerned Citizen and Eco-friendly Urbanist. How about you?
  3. Show us What you're Working On

I'm working on my new entry for my CJ. Neither I know when it will be ready.
  4. SimCity 4 YouTubers

Let me contribute in the topic not only by adding new and less popular channels from beloved SC4 members, but also by taking you back to the past like AVGN and check some really old channels that sadly now are full of dust. Keep in mind that most of them are not SC4 exclusive, and that some of the following YouTubers have been stopped making SC4 videos but they haven't removed them, so you might have to dig a bit to find them. Raymond Lee - @Raymond7cn's channel. Only a few SC4 content that show some of his older projects and experiments. Strictoaster - Lots of sandbox and city building games videos, including SC4. Ganaram Inukshuk - @Ganaram Inukshuk's channel with some really old NAM videos sc4jenx - @xannepan's channel with his old but legendary projects, such as Poseidon and Aurora. MandelSoft - @MandelSoft's channel with some old NAM and SC4 videos. dwyrin - He mostly post videos with him playing Go, but he used to make some really neat SC4 videos. PanamaMatt - @threestooges's channel. It has some old interviews with @noahclem and Casper, but that's all. Jamie6737 - A really old channel with some really old school SC4 videos and BAT showcases. ErwinNegentigNo2 - Probably the ultimate all-time-classic SC4 channel, with some really old and nostalgic tutorials. This specific channel is just a backup. The original one, which had been removed because of copyright strikes back then, had more videos but they have been lost. Ewrin Negentig was my door to Simtropolis back in 2008. I really hope he's still alive and kicking.

I strongly believe that we need to give a lot of credits to the Maxis team for creating so many things about our favorite game, including a huge variety of grown-able lots of all types of RCI buildings available. But I also believe that we need to admit the elephant in our room and realize that their work at those lots needed some extra work, because the more we examine those lots, the more errors we find, such as misplaced props, empty spaces, missing textures, textures above other textures, parking lots surrounded by fences, homes with no fences at all, pathways that leads to nowhere and the list goes on. And this is where HRAM comes into the game. HyperRealism Addon Mod is exactly that it says. A mod that fixes all those problems by changing and upgrading a huge number of RCI lots, making them hyper realistic. By downloading and installing this mod, all homes will get their fences, all parking lots will be connected to your roads, all those unnecessarily empty spaces will be filled by hyper realistic details, and your cities will be so hyper realistic that even the most serious players will envy them. What you see at the pictures is not the entire mod. It's only a small taste of this incredible mod that I've been secretly working on. Don't believe me? You think it's just a text file saying "Happy April Fool's Day"? Then, go ahead! Download it that, and see it by yourself! What do you thing I am? A prankster? Probably the best thing about this mod is the fact that it will make your lots hyper realistic without the need of tons of dependencies, allowing even the vanilla players to admire the wonders of this epic mod. Just make sure you have SimCity 4 Buildings as Props and Rush Hour Buildings as Props which are available here, as well as the Plugin Landmark Props. Oh, and you'll also need to either open a new city, or demolish all the Maxis-made RCI buildings on your already existed cities, if you want to see the wonders of hyper realism unfolded in front of you. Have fun and have a nice day
  8. I accidentally derailed a bit the Natural Growth Philosophies / Mindsets topic with my futuristic visions (sorry for that ), so I decided to make a different one to talk about possible events and scenarios that we might live in the near and far future. How things might look like? Will the next decades or centuries be better or worse than today? Or we'll get better in some aspects and worse in others? Is using advanced technology enough to solve our problems and improve our life, or we'll need an advanced code of morality and responsibility as well? Is sustainability possible at all? Will our future be Star Trek or Mad Max? Well, you get the idea.

I think this is why Neil Fairbanks insists so much in high density zoning
  10. Sorry for the lack of replies. I'm very busy with my bachelor and my free time is limited. The fact that my psychology has been dropped into the abyss of Tartarus doesn't help either. But I'm not shunning the topic. I have a lot to say.
  11. New topic, done The idea of random events is indeed awesome. With so many things that could happen during a town's past, such as earthquakes and revolutions, it can lead to an even greater variety of unique cities and mindsets. I think I can help in this project if you want
  12. Planned cities might sound like the opposite of natural development and the ideal approach for building new cities, since it allows you to organize your society and minimize any problems they would arise right at the very beginning of your project. Why patching a city to solve a problem when you can prevent it? There is a catch, though. You need to have in mind that no matter how well organized is your city, you might still need to expand, adjust and update it according to future needs, so some natural development will still be necessary. This should not work as a justification to build that big airport in sensitive ecosystems, though. So you need to resort in innovative and creative results to cover your Sims' need without damaging the environment. Building new expansions as garden cities could help, thus having enough room for any future project. This is one of the reasons why I let green zones untouched around my cities, not only to let Nature breath but also in case I need a new hospital or power plant or something. Another idea is to re-use and dispose brownfield sites (previously developed land that is not currently in use), such as turning an old factory into a vintage-looking hotel. Of course this requires advanced and specialized appraisal analysis techniques. You really don't want to expose your Sims in land contaminated by toxic waste. But there is an even more radical and epic solution, which is the application of modular constructions. All of our structures, our homes and highways, are built to withstand the test of time, but this focus on permanence is also a serious problem maker. In a dynamic and ever-changing world, permanent structures often end up generating massive amounts of waste, whether through demolition or just abandonment. This problem can be solved by modular construction, a building technique that dates back to the 1800s. The modular construction process involves transporting multiple prefabricated buildings, which are assembled on-site like Lego bricks to form a bigger and complete structure. Because of this, modular buildings can be upgraded, reassembled into new formations, or even disassembled and transported elsewhere for reuse. If this strategy prevail, I predict that sometime in 21st or 22nd century, our buildings, roads and even entire cities will be able to constructed, deconstructed and reconstructed in only a matter of days, like playing SimCity in real life. This could be the ultimate triumph of natural development. This is not a fascist strategy but a possible future scenario. Let me explain it better. Sir Arthur C. Clarke pointed out that there is a sort of an inverse relationship between communication and transportation. This means that the more advanced one becomes, the less you need the other. If communication develops virtual reality to the point where businesses can conduct meetings with members who physically are located all over the globe and you can't tell the difference, and even to the point where you can actually touch and interact with their avatars/holograms, why traveling physically to those meetings? Already many corporations are experimenting with telecommuting, especially thanks to the pandemic. Heck, I've had been doing my previous job of translating and subtitle adding in TV shows in my comfy house, and that's before pandemic and the nowadays rice of teleworking. By the same token, if transportation develops ultra-fast trains or flying cars (I could include teleportation but let's not stretch it that much) that can fly you from Beijing to New York in just a few hours or even minutes, who needs teleconferences? Communication and transportation are two different techniques dealing with the same problem. If either technology becomes advanced enough, the cities of the future will look very different than what we can imagine. Maybe they'll be scattered around and form small communities instead of big cities, or even a global network of arcologies. But if both technologies becomes advanced enough, the idea of cities as we know it today will die. Decentralization will destroy the need of big cities and come to the point that all people will live like hermits, free to set up their houses anywhere they want, but still they'll be not totally seclusive thanks to communication and transportation. If this happens, the entire planet will be our house as I imagined it back in 2014. Keep in mind that this is only a possible scenario, not something that we can take it for granted. In the future, all bets are off. History is full of plot twists and the future will not be any different. An idea that today sounds disturbing may become a reality into the future. Thank you very much I couldn't say it's "utopian". Utopia means total perfection and no need for further improvements, which is like trying to build the best city possible that will always stay like that forever. That's impossible. Even the most awesome city will require improvements and upgrades to stay awesome. Utopia means perfection and there's not such a thing. The right word would be "eutopia", which mean something both better and possible. We're not talking about perfection, but an endless progress of improvements and changes for the best. To avoid derailing the topic further more, I'll answer to your questions and thoughts as briefly as I can. I fully agree that 21st century will be a really bumpy road. We're just in the beginning and we're already suffering from climate crises, wars, recessions and the rise of fascism and pseudoscience (coincidence?). But on the other hand, more and more people are questioning the establishment and making their conscious steps forward, either by raising their voices and forcing governments to protect mankind and our planet, or by innovations that can overturn anything we've taken from granted. As an environmental engineer, I can ensure you there are TONS of awesome solutions and ideas that can turn the tables, such as solar panels that can be printed like newspapers, small and recyclable wind turbines, and roads that recharges electric vehicles while they drive over it... but I'll need to make a new topic for that . This is one of the reasons that makes me not lost hope for the future. The other is this: "There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels ... upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!" - Mario Savio, 1964 And more and more people (especially young people) have had enough with this situation. Exactly! And enough said The pandemic have bring many changes in our society, so you have a point. However in history of mankind we'll see that not only disasters, but also new discoveries and technologies can reshape societies, like the Industrial Revolution. Everything can change society. My fault, my bad. Sorry for that
  13. My cities and towns take place not in modern or historic times, but in the future. More specifically, in a solarpunk post-scarcity future like Star Trek and the Venus Project, where technology coexist with nature. My cities haven't been founded in the present or sometime the past and they just get evolved and updated into the future. Instead, they're going to be founded sometime in the next decades or even centuries, in times and a world much different than today in technology, society and mentality. Because of that, they're not based on any familiar norm and so they don't have to follow any modern or older rule and standard to be designed and constructed, so expect some strange and exotic for us designs and layouts which reflect the possible norms of the future, such as the establish of a money-free resource-based economy, the collapse of trade thanks to the Self Efficiency Movement and the nanoreplicators, the development of hydroponics and vertical farming, the usage of robots and 3D printing to build entire cities in just a few hours, the rise of automation and cybernetics, the Free Earth movement, the replacement of organic mayors with immortal AIs, the decline of the classic cities thanks to the arcologies, or even the death of the cities by the advancement of either (or both of) VR telecommuting or (and) flying cars. In the 22nd century there is just no reason to follow the norms of the 15th or the 20th century. But in my cities there is only one mayor rule. Provide all of your Sims with the highest living standards possible with the lowest environmental and carbon footprint possible. On the one hand this sounds challenging, because you have to ensure that the natural environment isn't going to be disrupted too much and unnecessarily in order to satisfy your Sims (for instance, don't destroy lakes and hills to build a big airport, no matter how much you want it), and that all kind of infrastructures should be both the most efficient and the most environmental friendly, which in a money-based economy like capitalism is easier said that done. But on the other hand, this opens the door to so many possibilities and creative ideas, especially since we're talking about the future. Because of that, say hello to wind trees and vertical farms right in the middle of the city, small heliports next to commercial zones, organic designs of the road layout, clean industries right next to parks and apartment buildings, so many trees that can cover entire houses, central towers that houses all civic services, railroads instead of highways, green zones around the town, houses that can work as shops or workshops as well, bus stops in literally every corner, and plenty of subways stations even in the smallest villages. The results are something like this:
  14. My very first SimCity memory was me messing around in SimCity 3000 back in 1999. I was building landmarks and other civil buildings, until I made the earthshaking discovery that you can have homes and shops by laying something called "zones". I also build roads and powerlines tile by tile instead of dragging them, so I couldn't figure out how to make powerlines crossing a road, and I really thought that the no power indicators were fancy statues
  15. Survive the Above's Attack

Good think I had a plan B, building a pocket time machine to bring me back to my age. Incoming meter strike!
  16. Why should the person above you be banned? V2

Banned for using the answer to life, the universe and everything in such an irresponsible way. As just a nickname? Really?
  17. Holy Mount, The garden of virgin Mary

    Very beautiful. Well done
  18. Terring's Terrible Lots

Well... better late than never Now that I have some free time, I upgraded all stage 3 CO$$$ lots. Before we see them, let's see first how they used to be back in 2013. In one of those buildings I even tried @tariely's idea from Simpeg.com about solar panels. ⬆️ This was back in 2013. ⬇️ Now in 2022, all buildings comes with new textures, better parking lots, bicycles, greater variety in cars, futuristic upgrades such as domes and modular expansions, parking places for flying cars both on ground and on air, hanged cars, robots, green roofs, even more solar panels, and even small greenhouses for the workers. The ponds with ducks and the underground garages are still here, of course Some futuristic technologies and expansions for the offices. I know, those communication arrays on the roof of those buildings look silly, but it's the best thing I could do. I tried to give them some green roofs, but the model of those buildings was not flat enough and refused to work with me. But hey, at least they look more like the James Webb Space Telescope. But when possible, add green roofs, preferably with trees and flowers. Even more upgrades, with domes, antennae, communication arrays, bicycles, and flying cars parked a couple of meters above the ground. Aerial parking, anyone? But how those flying cars can stay on air? Here is how. Those cars have their engines still on to stay floating. To prevent them from running out of energy and crashing to the ground, the skybridges that connects them to the building (which have ion engines under them to expand however they need without using pylons or something to support them) provide them with the energy they need to stay on air. And yes, of course you can have both bicycles and flying cars at your city Back in 2013, I made most of the Maxis buildings to be constructed only on in-corner lots. This is because, in most cases, their original lots were not in-corner and had their parking spaces isolated from the road network, thus getting parking lots surrounded by buildings and without access to the road. By making their lots in-corner, I tried to get a more realistic result with parking lots actually connected to the road, and at the same time as less Maxis buildings in the city as possible. Just have Maxis in corners and let SimMars get the rest. This however could limit the variety of the lots available and make many of them very difficult to be used. To fix this problem, and to have an even more awesome result, I've made some extra lots that can be constructed anywhere, while turning their parking lots for bicycles and wheeled cars... into landing lots for flying cars! Speaking of flying cars, here are some more Maxis buildings, now with extra and modular roofs that can be used for flying cars and other vehicles as well. Too bad we don't have flying cars as automata. That would be awesome. And of course you can't have a city of the future without green roofs, solar panels, hanged cars, and even small greenhouses. That's right, greenhouses on the top of office buildings. Hey, workers are humans too, so why not cultivating some of the food they need? If you can grow your own cereals and corn for your cereal bars and popcorn on your working place, why not? Hmm, the green roofs of some of those buildings look funny and glitchy, as if the white roof of the building is fighting the green roof just above it. Don't worry, I'll fix it. So yes, all low density and high wealth office lots have been futurized. I think I'll keep working on low density lots for now. After all, they're the very first lots you see when you build a city. So I think my next step will be the medium wealth offices. Or the low wealth shops and services. Or maybe the family houses. I don't know. We'll see. Progress so far. What's ready (2013), what's still under development, and what has been improved (2022). 19. simtropolis Miraculous News: Cori is alive!

I've got 29 points on this thread. Feel free to give them to her.
  20. tribute Coriville

@TG24, @TogaMasterJohn, @raynev1, @franyer, @carlosmarcelo, @Dead_End, @CaptCity, @hugues aroux, @TheMurderousCricket, @mitsos and @Golan0 , thank you very much for your likes, comments and follows Originally, my plan was to build 2 different small towns and show both of them in my next entry. Well, change of plan. This entry is going to be a special one because it's a tribute to a very special friend, @CorinaMarie. As you know, Corina has been absent from Simtropolis since 15 of July, with terrible implications about her health. Our mind was with her all that time, and still is. A few days after those worrisome news, I decided to build a city dedicated to her. Cori is more than just an administrator, you know. She's a friend to everybody. Her contribution was so big and important and she's such a helpful and kind friend that... Well, let's just say that Simtropolis without her would not be the same. The city is ready, and thanks to the miraculous news that Cori is alive, I think it's time to show it, while celebrating for her. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Coriville. A special city for a special friend. The city is inspired by Cori's unique building style. Instead of following a hard set of rules that removes all the fun and creativity that the game generously offers, Cori preferred tons of experimentation and free-styled building, leading to some really beautiful and cozy towns with lots of farms, railroads and apartment buildings surrounded by those farms. I tried to mimic her style, but since Coriville is also in my futuristic version of Fairview, I also tried to make the town a little more green and solarpunk. The result is a town which is both rustic and high-tech I usually use my reloted versions of the classic SimMars civic buildings, but for Coriville I've made an exception. All civic structures are Maxis-made, just like in her towns. This gives Coriville a more rustic style, advanced but still cozy. You can say that this also gives Coriville some past, a touch of history, that this town was always here. I tried the same thing with the farms as well. Instead of vertical farms and futuristic labs, Coriville uses a more simple and old school agriculture style that still uses the land with smart and efficient ways. In fact, the only piece of actual futuristic technology is this exotic turbine, which produces electricity by creating an increased magnified vortex. During operational service, the blade rotation is rapidly accelerated around the 42nd factor angle. This then establishes perpetual motion that allows power to be exponentially produced from the internal hyper-generator. The dynamic quantification of this occurs so swiftly, meaning the minimum wind speed for optimal runtime is equivalent to a calm, gentle breeze. Right now, the only connection Coriville has with the rest of the world is by this railroad, which is used by both freight and passenger trains. This railroad ends up to an underground hangar, which also works as a transition to the underground transportation system that Fairview already uses. One day, Coriville will be connected with the rest of the region, giving this railroad an even more important role in Fairview's development. And in case you're curious, yes, some Sims are actually using this transition... which includes a 90 degrees turn and a crazy U-turn! I can see fanatic seekers of realism crying and screaming in agony But just because something looks classic and old-school, doesn't mean it can't be more than meets the eye. We could imagine that this manor houses an ordinary, biological mayor. But you know what? No. We're into the future, so we need something better. Instead, let's imagine that it houses a sophisticated central AI, called Central Operator of Rustic Installments n. 16, or just CORI-16. As the most advanced AI of the CORI series, CORI-16 is the only so far that thinks more like a human and less like a computer. This makes her the friendliest and most cozy AI ever made, full with human-like personality and always eager to help everybody. It's actually a habit of her to begin any conversation and statement not with "Dear humans" or something like that, but with "Hiya!". To honor her, a local artist build a statue of a human version of CORI-16, made by self-cleaning materials to keep it clean and shining. And yes, that plate actually says "Hiya, everybody!". But of course Coriville in not only the town itself but also what's around it, including a beautiful forest with lots of flowers, bushes, rocks and animals roaming around. This time I tried something new. I tried to give some extra life to the shores of the town by recreating underwater "forests", with fishes swimming around underwater plants. What I tried to make was something like this: And this is the result. Of course that's my first attempt, so ideas for improving are welcomed. This was my tribute to Cori. I tried to make it something special and I hope I did it. Let's finish it with some night pictures of Coriville, while keeping in our mind our beloved heroine
  21. tribute Coriville

Thanks for the comments, fellas @TheMurderousCricket: Thanks for the idea, I'll give it a try @Cyclone Boom: Give Cori a big hug from me
  22. simtropolis Miraculous News: Cori is alive!

    For our victorious Cori
  23. UDE, Desert dreaming

    Awesome work
  24. simtropolis Miraculous News: Cori is alive!

CORI IS FINE! Fully agree. It should be renamed into something like "Epic News: Cori is a badass heroine"
  25. Now that we can bring our Simtropolis friends in our cities, how about sharing stories with them? What your friends are doing in your cities? Where they live and work? What kind of stories they will share to you, the mayor? Show us here your MySimtropolis Sims and their activities at your cities. To keep the positive spirit of our community , please don't abuse the topic for trolling, flaming or bashing other users. Just have some fun and bring your friends This is the Venus City, a city inspired of the circular cities of the Venus Project. The central tower has everything the Sims need. Schools, hospitals, police and fire stations, digital libraries, museums, and the central artificial intelligence that controls the city with much larger efficiency than any mayor. No politicians and elections here, only AIs and cybernetic direct democracy. And look! Some of my friends lives here Every admin of Simtropolis here lives in luxurious mansions. Some in cozy homes with gardens, others in warm and underground ones. @Dirktator is the only exception. He's the creator, so he deserves a luxurious room with nice view. And here are our jobs. Dirk is responsible for the smooth working of the central AI, @CorinaMarie is at the 4D Virtual TeleCinema, and I am working in the digital library. @Cyclone Boom is the manager of EveryWare CyberNet. As about @TekindusT, he's teleworking from the comfort of his home, controlling an industrial robot.
