  1. Can anyone tell me just what the heck is going on with these sims? I wish I knew how to take a video (with sound) to better illustrate their actions, but I will try to describe. When you first open the city (It's a completely developed city humming along.), and zoom into this one corner; as you zoom in the sims are flowing in from the edges so apparently from two adjacent city tiles (possible 3, it is a four corners region). They are running and screaming and then form this semi-circle. There is plenty of movement, pushing and shoving in this curved line with screams and cries of anguish. Sometimes someone gets pushed off the edge or jumps. It never stops. Have my sims lost their minds? Is it lemming season? Anyone ever see this behavior? Have I found an easter egg? I don't think it is affecting the game but it is weird. John
  2. I hope this makes sense, but say you have a bunch of cities in a huge region connected, do the sims ever travel between them? like if a sim in one city needs a job, and the city next to it has plenty of industrial and commercial zoning, will the sim be able to drive over there to work? I always see cars in the cities going in and out of the city. does it really work that way? and also, why else would sims travel out of the cities?
  3. Has anyone ever put the game on speed one and watched some things close-up? These are a couple of things I've seen and think are hilarious. When the Mayor's house gets plonked down, a huge crowd of sims from nowhere gather round and cheer at it, including the wheelchair guy and the gangster in the white beanie The flasher (zooming in on the spot the crime data says is a flasher) - you see the back of him in his brown coat, opening it up and waving it around. What else?

  5. I don't usually make topics or comments, but I was suggested. So here it is... Yesterday, I bought SimCity. The New SimCity. I've played SimCity Games in the past. The first one I played was SNES version of SimCity. Then i went on to SimCity Creator. Then bought the SimCity Box. I got to play SimCity 4 and SimCity Societies. I even made my own paper version of SimCity. Mostly I had good experiences on all. I liked all of them. Then at E3 2011, I heard EA was making a new SimCity. I was excited to see another Game. My Grandma was afraid that it wouldn't run good on her pc. But I got it and it ran PERFECTLY. I had really no problem with it. Though Origin it said that I needed atleast 12 GB of HD space. I downloaded roughly 275mb. I was surprised. BUT then came updating. I had to restart the process at least 3 times. Then opened the game. I was surprised. I just didn't need a tutorial... that took a long time for me to get out of a tutorial. I enjoyed designing. the thing that turned me off from the beginning was online. But I saw the vision EA wanted it. I think when I knew why, I enjoyed it but I wish that there would be separate modes like "Online Play" and "Single Play." I made a town. I liked upgrading. It took me several moments how buildings upgrade, how to roads upgrade roads. That should of been more easier. In the past, I'm so used to having a low-wealth, med-wealth, and high-wealth zones. I guess i'll miss that. Then I created 2 new towns in my private region. I'm doing well. I wish that transferring Electricity, water, and Garbage were easier. Overall, my first experience were a 6/10. It could of been better. The game is good. I just wish that it'll get an awesome expansion pack like SC4's RushHour. The expansion with Cities of the Future has no interest with me. I'm not a futuristic person. I like modern things.
  6. Hi to all of you, im new in forums and returned to play Sim City 4 this days after years becuase i missed it and discovered this community. I want to share you mi idea: Sim City 4 Cooperative World. The main pourpose of creating a cooperative world is have all users share and view all others users creation in real time when playing, of course this will be done ussing a visual application i can easily development, you will not need any other program or cloud storage. Also the wolrd can have their custom made plugins for all users, that will be downladed with the launcher of course, and each user can own their city and see others players ones, but only will allowed to upload their resources, becuase will be an acount system for that. Conclusion. -City synchonization. -Auto updater for plugins. -Account settings for uploadings. What do you say, likes the idea???
  7. I have been considering whether it would be at present possible to retexture not the buildings or vehicles of SimCity, but the people within the city themselves, in order to have a larger variety of people walking the streets. Is there a future for these Sims, or even perhaps a return to the past? Can we see Middle-Age peasants on pavements, or Victorians and Edwardians on the Tour Eiffel, if not even robots visiting the parks and viewing the sights? A few considerations of possible retextures that could, if this is possible, be found: Various retextures of emergency personnel to complement existing vehicle retextures Middle Age/Renaissance retextures (the start of fashion) Victorian/Edwardian retextures (going back to the early days of technology) Military retextures (possibly to complement the Heros & Villains Set?) Robotic retextures (for the future) Professional suit-and-tie retextures (for the elite bustling commercial towns) Wealthy/poorer retextures (royal squires at last at the Mayoral Mansion!) Animal-based retextures (for panda, dog and all other animal lovers) Profession-based retextures (clowns for amusement park cities) If the above is possible, it would be a nice addition (or subtraction) to the game, and could help create more diverse cities and regions that are tailored to the wishes of the player. I thank ye very much for reading. Comments, appraisals and criticisms are all welcome, of course. Enjoy, LaVerite
  8. I decided to come back to SimCity after a few months off. I have spent 77 hours in the game recently. I have four cities in a region, and total local region size of close to a million sims. First, the bugs: I'm playing by myself in sandbox mode. I have lost multiple gifts in the millions of $s from one city to the other. This problem alone has almost bankrupted the whole region and trashed hours of my time. Additionally, the recycling trucks being shared aren't traveling from their city of origin to the city they are assigned to. Shared services like sewage are unexpectedly turning off. And finally, though I have train passenger stations in all cities, only one city shows sims using the service - 25,000 a day. All the other cities show 0 passengers. Oh - and the game crashes about once an hour. Besides these bugs, which have made the game nearly unplayable, I have several suggestions for how this game needs to be modified. 1. Mass transportation is not nearly effective enough given city size and building footprint. I have four cities. In just one of those cities, I have: a passenger train station, a regional bus station, three smaller bus stations, four park and rides, and a streetcar system - it's a city of 250,000. In just this one city, there are 32 buses, 8 streetcars, 12 streetcar stops, 35 bus stops, and a train station. Park and rides are located in residential areas. Bus stops are planted throughout all the cities and all routes are green with coverage. This is the same setup for all three other cities. And yet, I only have about 55,000 sims using mass transit for the entire region of almost 1 million! That's ridiculous. I've used up almost 8% of land area on mass transit, not including roads. And since I've heard that each city can grow up to 500,000, and yet I've pretty much maxed out mass transit, but traffic is horrible, there is only one reasonable answer: The number of sims using mass transit needs to be increased by a factor of 10 to work properly! 2. Recycling centers are constantly warning that their lines are full. I have two plastic lines, one metal line and one alloy line at one plant. I have 8 pickup trucks and 4 delivery trucks at that plant. I then have three trade depots that include 6 plastic warehouses, 2 alloy warehouses and 2 metal warehouses. The recycling center is close to the trade depots and set up to export everything. And yet, I get constant warnings that my recycling centers are backed up. If I'm that maxed out, this shouldn't happen. Deliveries to trade depots from recycling centers need to happen 2X more often and exports from trade depots need to follow. 3. The whole trash and recycling system is completely flawed. Some days only some trucks will go out, or none will go out at all. There is no warning system in place when trash is piling up until it is WAY too late to fix the problem. If your trucks miss even 1 bag of trash a day, that will eventually add up until you have tens of thousands of bags destroying your city. Recycling for a city of 250,000 can't be covered with a fleet of 42 recycling trucks - that alone is completely wrong. The recycling stacks up and pisses off my sims, and yet there is nothing I can do to get rid of it short of creating a new city that does nothing but recycle. But oh wait! My city with all the recycling trucks only occasionally gets their trucks over to my city that needs help. And do not tell me that's because of traffic. See point 1, above. I've done everything beyond reason to max out mass transportation. Recycling MUST be limited to the amount of material that can be picked up by the trucks you have available, no matter how many or how few trucks there are. 4. You cannot schedule when your recycling and trash trucks go out. This means they always go out during max traffic hours, unstaggered. We need to be able to schedule when trash trucks go out. And even better, assign an area for them to clean up and the city needs to show you when you don't have enough trash and recycling set up to cover the needs of the current population. This must update when populations increase, or trash and recycling need to be able to magically pick up everything in the area they've been assigned regardless of population growth. 5. You can't reasonably figure out how to plop a trade port and dock. I spent almost a million dollars, setting up trade ports, only to find out that no dock could support it, then destroy it to set it up somewhere else where *fingers crossed* the dock could also work. Plopping a trade port needs to be able to happen without a road being present - the road can be put down later - AND it needs to show where the dock could go, and confirm that the dock can be plopped in that area as well. Ok - wall of text done. I think this game could still be awesome. It's addictive. But it's so deeply flawed, that I can't keep playing it without it driving me insane.
  9. I'm a little confused. As far as RCI demand, has anyone else noticed descrepencies between what the bar graphs say, what Sims say (for example, when a business or industry says something like "We need employees!"), and what the RCI advisor says? There have been many times when one says "Industrial in demand" or the bar graph shows Low-income residential in decline, meanwhile an advisor says more is needed, or companies are looking for employees (not specifically saying "educated" or not). I don't get it. Is this a bug? I don't want to over build and wind up with abandoned buildings. Thanks for any ideas or info! Mike
  10. This thought just came to me recently, and I don't know if it's been discussed here at all or not. Has anyone cosidered the possibility of EA bringing intergration of their future version of The Sims to Simcity? I think for The Sims 2 you could import maps from SC into TS or something like that. Perhaps The Sims 4 will feature the ability to bring over a duplicate of your SC city to act as a world for your Sim? Or conversely, import Sims over into your SC maps to populate them? I dunno really.. I never could get into the Sims games for long but maybe some of you had some thoughts on it?
