  23. One of the many historical landmarks in the city is the General Ayala memorial. General Ayala (1760-1836) is a national hero leading the Valarian forces to victory over the forces of General Dolza in the Valarian war of independence 1800-1805. Situated on the southerbank of the Valaria river near the conflux of the Embrace river in what is now Ayala park, construction began in 1927.The construction was competed in 1936, 100 years after the death of the general. The desig of the building is based on the pantheon in Rome. A statue of the independence hero made of bronze is inside. On the outside of the memorial the following text is carved; Even though the war is won, it feels like we have lost it. Famous words the general had spoken on the day the war was won. Reflecting back on the high toll the Valarians had to pay for there freedom.
