Valarian especially Saratonians have a great passion for sports. One of the famous sporting institutions can be found on the banks of the Embrace river; Embrace Tennis park home of the yearly grand slam tennis tournament the Valarian open.

The tournament was held for the first time in 1905 and was last contested on grass in 1970. Since 1971, the tournament has been held on hard courts Embrace Tennis park. Will Matslander is the only person to have won the tournament on both grass and hard courts.


The park consist of the 16.350 seat Matslander stadium, the parks center court. There are plans to increase its capacity to 21.000 seats. Most prominent feature is the Ace tower. Furthermore there are count no 1- 6, each with a capacity of 2.800 spectators each. In addition there court number 7-18.
Most notably court no. 3 is noted as the graveyard of champions as many former champions fell to ignominious defeats.
The tournament takes place over two weeks in late June and early July, culminating with the ladies' and gentlemen's singles final, scheduled respectively for the second Saturday and Sunday. Each year, five major events are contested, as well as four junior events and four invitational events.
